During the Phone Call, the Riddler says he doesn't want anything from Batman and talks to him like a compatriot. It was at this point I realized the "twist" that Riddler thought Batman was on his side. I didn't realize this was a twist (or even that Batman didn't known it!) until the prison speech. Based on Riddlers screeching and disappointment to Batman's angry reaction upon learning this truth, I think it's clear that Riddler thought Batman knew all of this already. He thought he was leaving coded instructions to Batman, but Batman wasn't really able to figure this out, and thought they were "clues," only fulfilling Riddlers plans inadvertently. Riddler seemed genuinely disappointed to learn that Batman wasn't the brilliant peer he thought. Perhaps this encounter will prompt Batman to work on his detective skills and force him to rise to "Worlds Greatest Detective."
@andrewshandle2 жыл бұрын
"Riddler seemed genuinely disappointed to learn that Batman wasn't the brilliant peer he thought." This is why I don't think Riddler knew who Batman was which is up for debate. Even if he figured it out after the the letter bomb didn't kill him, the second he realizes that Batman isn't as smart as he thought and that he wasn't working with him he wouldn't just keep quiet about his identity.
@Toonwalla20102 жыл бұрын
@@andrewshandle That all depends. Knowing the Batman's secret identity, gives the Riddler a lot more power to manipulate/blackmail Batman in the future. if he does know then why let that power go to waste. Honestly even if Riddler does know the secret identity of Bruce Wayne, it probably doesn't matter to him. To him the persona of the Batman is more important. There's a very clear reason why Elliot can't be Nash's father: Nash was already an Orphan before he was killed. It's made very clear that Nash was in the choir singing during the press conference when Thomas Wayne announced both the Renewal Fund and his bid to be Mayor. It was this political bid that made him the target of the press leading to him asking Falcone to silence Elliot, which got Elliot killed, which led to Wayne getting killed for threatening to go to the police. The timeline just doesn't add up.
@WikipediaLover942 жыл бұрын
I'm sure someone else has said this, but the timeline for the reporter being the Riddler's father doesn't seem to fit because he was singing in the orphan choir at the launch of Thomas's campaign but it seemed like the murder of the reporter was later in his campaign
@WikipediaLover942 жыл бұрын
Actually for what it's worth, Thomas Wayne apparently didn't announce his candidacy for mayor until ten days before the election? In Arkham the Riddle says something like "I was there the day Thomas Wayne announced his candidacy, and ten days later he was dead" and combined with the news lady mentioning the murder of the mayor was almost ten days to the date that the Wayne's were murdered. So 1) Thomas Wayne announced his candidacy with ten days left to campaign and 2) apparently Gotham mayors serve five year terms? And 3) these are all basically throw away lines and it doesn't matter actually

Great movie, I enjoyed your breakdown of it! 1 question, after the DA is killed, batman is taken into custody, assaults Gordon and escapes amid gunfire. However, after police arrest the Riddler, Batman is allowed to walk around his apartment, a crime scene, surrounded by cops. Wasn't he a fugitive from the law at that point? Weren't the police just trying to kill him a day ago? Why wasn't he arrested? Sorry if this is digging to deeply into an fictional story, but I found it odd, and easily avoidable by not having Batman detained in the first place.

There was some showing/not telling that happened between the scene where Batman "attacks" Gordon and when Batman apprehends Falcone. When Batman opens the doors to the Iceburg Lounge, Falcone talks about the corruption in Gotham and within the police force. When the doors open, it is shown and said that not all of the cops were corrupt. It can be inferred that these officers were ones who were not on Falcone's payroll, and Gordon was able to tell them the truth about Batman after the information that Batman gathered.

I don't think that the Riddler knew the entire time about Bruce Wayne being the Batman. I think his brief encounter at the funeral spelled it out for him as he stared up at his silhouette and how he dove in to save the mayor's son from being ran over by the oncoming vehicle. His plan splintered a bit to make sure it was him when he chose, as the batman, to go chase the clue at the orphanage. I do like that he couldn't spell it out because that would break the integrity of his M.O., his riddles. So, he taunts him. I like that it's ambiguous because questions like that get us to speculate and fill-in-the-gaps. Him telling him that his mask is his true self might be leaning toward him knowing who he is. Either that, it's ours and the paranoia from Bruce/Batman himself.

i kinda thought the guy at the funeral was joe chill. the way he says to bruce, 'you seem familiar' then his eyes go wide and then narrow, just as bruce gets distracted and walks away, he then retreats back into a shadow.

The Halloween-themed cards are part of the puzzle, though. Three of them have to do with judgment day. The second card has a scientist on it and contains references to chemistry and mad scientists. The third one says "In these trying times, WE MUST NEVER FORGET." After 9/11 the slogan most people had on their cars was, "9/11 NEVER FORGET." Couple this with the outline of the sea wall and it all adds up. Batman backed away out of fear for his identity being exposed, a mistake he won't make again.

Idk man... I wouldn't say that the Riddler's plan is genius. like OK, he needed batman to bring Falcone out so he can kill him, but come on, he can make a very elaborate sophisticated plan, and he can't just bring Falcone out himself? And what is the purpose of his last puzzle (the carpet thingy) other than helping batman to stop his plan? And his "snapping" moment, when he spill out that his plan was to make both of them in arkham so that they can see the flooding of Gotham, is kinda unreasonable. why would he say that to him? why don't just lure time until the bomb explode?

One more point about “being underwater” is it’s meaning financially. Being underwater is owing more on a home than it’s worth.

why is the last scene overlooked, reason why they are wearing riddlers outfit, on riddlers vlob site, on the chat, one of the guys getting ready to storm the garden says he found the mask at some location dont remember if it was a gunstore or general hunting store. it just wasnt one guy, they all were from the group on riddlers vlob site that had a final mission from riddler to storm the garden.

My wife had a great point. Did Wayne’s negligence with his accounts allow some of the perversion of his family’s trust?
@andrewshandle2 жыл бұрын
Maybe later, but he was like 10 years old when his parents died and they started pillaging that fund right away. Also, it took a forensic scientist to find the fraud…now, maybe Batman should catch that though, and I’d suspect a future Batman who uses Bruce Wayne to his advantage might. So definitely the last two years he was negligent because all he cared about was running around as Batman.
@robi63172 жыл бұрын
was that in the movie? that his funds were perverted? wouldnt Alfred be on top of that?
@andrewshandle2 жыл бұрын
@@robi6317 Yes, it was discussed in literally the first scene in the mayoral debate and was repeatedly talked about the entire film. Alfred is a butler, how is he managing a multi billion dollar charitable fund that he has no control over? The city took over the fund after Thomas Wayne died.

Riddler doesn't know Batman's identity. Why would he send a fireproof letter to Batman if he was trying to kill him? If he was dead, how would he read the letter to him?

In the scene where Gil Coulson has the bomb strapped to his neck and he's holding a phone in which The Riddler is live streaming himself to talk to Batman, if you look at the on-going chat, one of the commenter's name is "No.to.morrow or Not.o.morrow". T.O.Morrow, for those who don't know is a supervillain responsible for creating (among others) Red Tornado, a member of the Justice League

@ryanarey I disagree that the disgruntled guy at the Mayors funeral was the “I am Vengeance” Riddler acolyte at the end. In fact I strongly believe we got our view of Joe Chill, Thomas and Martha Wayne’s murderer. He says to Bruce, “Don’t I know you?” as he stopped rambling about another rich person getting what they deserved. Bruce can’t look away as he’s being pushed along and the man slips into shadows, eyes locked the entire time.
@andrewshandle2 жыл бұрын
Why can’t it be both? He killed the Waynes when he robbed them and didn’t care if he killed them because hates the rich, then later gets more radicalized and starts following the Riddler.

I think it’d be interesting in pt2 if we find out Thomas Wayne had more skeletons, and was a little worse than just being accidentally a bad guy that one time. No one reaches a status so high they can just give away $1billion in vague charity donations without cracking a LOT of eggs along the way. And the way the story lets Thomas off the hook feels like a cop out in regards to the broader themes of the Batman. I started thinking about this more now that we’ve been inside Arkham Asylum in this world via Sofia in the Penguin show, how she was a woman framed for getting too close to the truth and condemned to the insane asylum. Is something similar in store for Martha Wayne? Whom we already know her stay in Arkham was covered up? Spooky to think about
