I love how Gotham feels so textured and alive in this film. It's as if the city is as much of a character as Batman is.

It's because the movie is almost presented as a neighborhood or workplace drama. With all these characters being a community of people that know each other in one way or another. Ironically, the only person not REALLY involved is Bruce as himself(but even then, he knows Falcone and was still a target of the riddler so🤷🏽).

We have a signal now, for when I'm needed. When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call - it's a warning. To them. Fear is a tool. They think I'm hiding in the shadows. But I AM the shadows. I wish I could say I'm making a difference, but I don't know. Murder, robberies, assault - 2 years later, they're all up. And now this. This city's eating itself. Maybe it can't be saved, but i have to try. PUSH MYSELF. These nights all roll together in a rush, Behind the mask. Sometimes in the morning i have to force myself to remember everything that happened.

I liked how given Batman’s tenure was still in its infancy in this storyline, the city as a whole still isn’t sure what to think of him. He single handedly fights off muggers and victim’s only response is not “thank you”, it’s “please don’t hurt me.” Perfect visualization of his initial quest being one of revenge over justice.
