Brilliant video. Massively respect your hard work and dedication to finding the information and footage to make these videos. I’ve had a massive interest in WW2 for 10+ years and one part of the war I’ve always struggled to find information on is the British/commonwealth on the western front after D-day, then I stumbled upon your channel. With the exception of market garden, the British ‘campaign’(?) seems to be massively overshadowed by the Americans. It’s great to hear stories of how hard our boys fought as well! It wasn’t all the US, post D-day.

@@nobby_games Operation Market Garden wasn't overshadowed by American when the casualties of the failure hit harder on the British Side with 8000 people got wasted. Market Garden and also the Battle of Hurtgen Forest was a failed mission, which literally remind me of the Battle of Narva on the Eastern Front, where Soviet couldn't be able to breakthrough the Narva defensive lines that was well-defended by Germany & Estonia army.

Great video on a small action that was part of a much larger campaign. There are plenty of good videos on the Reichswald campaign and Operation Veritable on KZbin and this should form part of a library of videos on this vital campaign.
@ytanonymity35853 ай бұрын
The battle in Reichswald Forest (Operation Veritable) was much like the Hurtgen Forest scenario with a month of battle and the casualty was also quite huge which ended with 12000 casualties/wounded/killed for British-Canada while the German suffered with the lost of 44000 men casualties/killed. Whereas in Hurtgen Forest, the yanks suffered with 55000 casualties and 28000 casualties for German after 3 month battle. The casualties figure of Hurtgenwald and Reichswald were polarly opposite. I would say, the action and battle of Reichswald was not small. It's quite huge. Probably the most fierced jungle warfare ever happened in west Europe after Hurtgen Forest. but still overshadowed by Rhine River Crossing in battle of Remagen Bridge (Operation Lumberjack) and Operation Blockbuster. Operation Veritable was basically western version of Battle of Kohima-Imphal

Its almost appropriate that the 51st division, the division left behind at dunkirk in 1940, was the same unit who were first into germany.

They shouldn't have even been in the field. They were tired and battleshy by 1944 and it was repeatedly noted in command histories that they were past their prime. They should have been held as a reserve for ad hoc defensive operations where they still excelled.

Make me think if the yank managed to secured the Hurtgen Forest, maybe the Ardennes Offensive would be prevented? Also, would have helped to open more space and chances for Market Garden to success? Think about it, the allies already broke into German through the west border by mid 1944 and already secured Aachen town after the fierce battle in Aachen. But then, the operation was hold off, when the battle of Hurtgen Forest hits

Had a nephew (29yrs.) visit for Christmas dinner. His mother (my sister) was there and asked us to "Please don't mention Trump's election victory, as it upsets Jeremy terribly." Later that evening after everyone went home, I watched this video and thought of all the 19 and 20yr. old boys who bravely fought for years against the most murderous and evil regime the world has ever seen. It left me thinking that it was time for Jeremy to put on his 'Big-Boy Pants' and move on with his life.
