The Battle of Hastings[a] was fought on 14 October 1066 between the Norman-French army of William, the Duke of Normandy, and an English army under the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson, beginning the Norman Conquest of England. It took place approximately 7 mi (11 km) northwest of Hastings, close to the present-day town of Battle, East Sussex, and was a decisive Norman victory.
The background to the battle was the death of the childless King Edward the Confessor in January 1066, which set up a succession struggle between several claimants to his throne. Harold was crowned king shortly after Edward's death, but faced invasions by William, his own brother Tostig, and the Norwegian King Harald Hardrada (Harold III of Norway). Hardrada and Tostig defeated a hastily gathered army of Englishmen at the Battle of Fulford on 20 September 1066, and were in turn defeated by Harold at the Battle of Stamford Bridge five days later. The deaths of Tostig and Hardrada at Stamford Bridge left William as Harold's only serious opponent. While Harold and his forces were recovering, William landed his invasion forces in the south of England at Pevensey on 28 September 1066 and established a beachhead for his conquest of the kingdom. Harold was forced to march south swiftly, gathering forces as he went.
The exact numbers present at the battle are unknown as even modern estimates vary considerably. The composition of the forces is clearer: the English army was composed almost entirely of infantry and had few archers, whereas only about half of the invading force was infantry, the rest split equally between cavalry and archers. Harold appears to have tried to surprise William, but scouts found his army and reported its arrival to William, who marched from Hastings to the battlefield to confront Harold. The battle lasted from about 9 am to dusk. Early efforts of the invaders to break the English battle lines had little effect. Therefore, the Normans adopted the tactic of pretending to flee in panic and then turning on their pursuers. Harold's death, probably near the end of the battle, led to the retreat and defeat of most of his army. After further marching and some skirmishes, William was crowned as king on Christmas Day 1066.

I think I understand which animations are a bid odd. I believe that the mouth twitching is what causes this. I'll think about it. If it turns out to be too distracting I'll either remove facial animations altogether or remove some strange parts from the animation.
@Hillbilly001
@Hillbilly001 Жыл бұрын
@@historybattles3D It wasn't distracting per se, but there was a part when Duke Billy filled the screen and his mouth moved with the voice over. I thought he was narrating his part until it didn't match. After that I got used to it. I liked the whole vid. Can't wait for the battle. I'm still betting Duke Billy goes far. LoL. Cheers from Tennessee

@@Hillbilly001 Ah, I see what happened here. The facial animations are not meant to mirror the voice over. They are just "cosmetic" additions to make you think that the character is talking in the background. Yeap, Duke Billy is going to change history I'd say...haha Cheers man! Thank you very much for being here.

i always find it amazing that a runner went 270 miles up to stamford Bridge near York and found Harold (i mean how did he know where to find him and where he was going) then harold marches his army 270 miles south with no sat Nav..and finds William's gang which (the biggest surprise)..ARE STILL THERE!

Since you mentioned Game of Thrones, I’ll let everyone know that doesn’t jic they wanna learn more, The dance of the Dragons which is what the new HBO show House of the Dragons is based on is actually based on a real life event called “the anarchy” it happened in England from 1138-1153, also Game of Thrones the original run is based around “the war of the Roses” in England from 1455-1487. If you read up on these historical events you’ll easily be able to see who the character in the show is based on in real life. Obviously George added dragons and ice zombies, but the plot gets its foundation from these events. Even the Targaryens who were invaders from the east with their bright silver/blonde hair riding dragons are based on the Vikings who a lot had fair skin, blonde hair and the ships they came to England in had giant dragon or snakes heads on the prow of their ship, yes others would of had other mythical animals as these carvings were meant to protect the ship and crew from bad weather, raids, other men, and Sea Monsters. Also, each of the 7 kingdoms represents a real kingdom in real life, The Reach is France, the ice wall represents hadrians wall, the north is medevial Scotland and beyond the wall is I’ve heard a representation of picts from Ancient Scotland, Dorne: is Spain during the times of the moors, The riverlands is Netherlands and Belgium, the vale is Switzerland/Austria, the Westerlands(castle rock) is England, iron islands is Norway/Iceland(Scandinavia), Stormlands is Wales, across the channel places like Slavers Bay are Egypt, Essos is Asia, the Dothraki are mongols/Huns mixed with Native Americans if I’ve heard right.
