In Irpin, just outside the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, a multi-faceted resistance movement is preparing to face the approaching Russian troops. Our team met Bohdan, a Ukrainian artist; Maxime, a Russian artist; and Sergiy, a Ukrainian member of the French Foreign Legion. All of them will play a role in defending their city. Seeing those two elderly ladies in tears when they see the soldiers saying they love them like their own children really affected me. I guess they had just walked past the 20 civilian bodies on the street too. To think this army, partly made upwith civilian volunteers is causing so much damage to the Russian army is very inspirational. It shows there is no motivation quite like defending one's homeland. Unfortunately this material was filmed in the first week, now whole situation is much terrifying. This small city Irpin was liberated by Ukrainian Armed Forces, but it almost totally destroyed. Catastrophic damage and deaths are in Mariupol, Chernihiv, Kharkiv. It seems like russians intended to destroy andkill as much as possible. The commander is the same that destroyed Aleppo in Syria.🤷🏼‍♀️

To my knowledge, the first american journalist that was killed was Brent Renaud, on March 13, which would place that footage at least in the third week of the conflict. Can't guarantee that part was the same day as the one with those old ladies, but I doubt they would be two weeks appart. This may just be a suburb of Irpin they fleeing into; or they might have found a way to evacuate.

To survive trauma you often develop a dark sense of humor. My husband is a Neurologist who when he is called to the ER has to treat patients with gunshot wounds to the head and spine and this is the USA. The medical staff cope with dark humor so they can keep saving lives for years.

As a former soldier with service in Iraq, I know from personal experience that it's an individual's choice what and who to shoot at. I served in Afghanistan with the Danish army. Both us and the Brits suffered considerable casualties within my 7 months there, merely due to almost obsessive care not to hurt the civilians...and still, we had no business being there. All this to say that these Russian soldiers who either shoot indiscriminately or intentionally kill civilians, are war criminals. At any rate, moral like the one on the Ukrainian side is unbreakable. I really appreciated the format and length of this short documentary type video. Most of the footage coming out of this horrible war is very short and often times not very clear as to what’s happening in the larger picture. I can personally say that this video wasn’t like that and I found it very informative and I was able to get a really good mental picture of the pure hell and chaos the poor Ukrainian people are dealing with for the past month now.
