Literally. The challenge of HOI4 singleplayer comes from whether you can do a world conquest with a tiny country like Ireland... before the game lags to shit around the mid 1940's. I've been in positions where I could get achievements within a year or two but have just given up because it was late game and the game was running in IRL speed. Plus, it's a bad thing to be in a war with allies as they don't seem to understand what supply is.

@@dragodanhoratiu799 sigh*, Nope. And you're making me write a long one here as I list out a bunch of reasons as to why it's the game, not me, that's at fault. But anyway, let me get started: The vast majority of cases of poor optimization are effected by PC hardware but that doesn't mean it's not Paradox's problem. It's a notorious issue that the majority of the community criticizes as much as the bad AI and it's most definitely poor optimization, not poor hardware, that's the main crux of the problem. My hardware's way better than most, I just can't be arsed to deal with days turning to hours on max speed when at that stage of the game, it's already over and all you're doing is moving around offensive lines. How do I know for sure it's bad optimization? Because everybody already knows it's tied to the AI. They spam out divisions and move them around the place nonsensically, they spam out forts and freak out, etc. Multiplayer games with a large amount of player nations have significantly less issues with late game lag over singleplayer games (omitting server lag), a few mods remove unnecessary nations like most of South America to reduce the amount of AI players in the game, etc. The latest games I've played ran into the mid 1950's and that's simply because I was playing extremely aggressively and took out the majority of the major powers before the late 1940's. The best way to deal with how poorly HOI is optimized is just to kill enough of the AI to slow down the effect. In those world conquest games of mine, the game ends up smoother in the last few years than it was mid way through the game. Which is why I say the biggest challenge of HOI is playing as a minor, minor nation and winning before the game grinds to a halt. If you don't kill off enough of the AI, the game falls apart. Another example is the Old War Blues mod. It has significantly less optimization problems for two main reasons. 1) Strict manpower limits means most minor nations can't build more than a handful of divisions and 2) The fact that the mod is so easy, even as a minor nation, means that you end up killing enough of the enemies divisions to offset late game lag anyway. The achievement in question that I was referring to was the Crusader Kings 2 one. I played it without using the meta portugal strat before and, while I could have won with time, the fact that I couldn't kill off any major powers by 1940 and the fact that I had made most of Africa into a hundred different puppets, resulted in the game running like ass. Issue was, I needed to build a good enough navy to wipe the British fleet, and while that would normally take only a few years, I wasn't going to wait a few years while doing nothing just to take London for the achievement. It's the main reason why most achievement guides are written like they're speed runs.

I wish there was a mod for HOI4. Hell, even part of a future DLC would be great. Where they revamp Infrastructure and supplies. So have Trains, train tracks, Train stations, Supply ships, airplanes, and horses. All part of this effort to keep the army supplied and fed. Such as allowing you to build the train tracks manually along your desired area. More in-depth off logistics. Such as new National laws, where you are able to limit civilian traffic on trains. Even adding in new things like raiding supply lines. Not just on sea. But on land. Give value to Armored Trains. Both Germany and Japan suffered from heavy attrition and lack of supplies IRL. Germany struggled to be able to feed and arm their armies over the fast and hellish landscape of the Eastern front. While Japan would regularly have soldiers stationed on islands for long periods of time without supplies. In China, they struggled to move not just troops. But the supplies through the land. If they were to add a new theatre of war. Like how there are the Ground, Sea, and Air forces tab you can click on. I feel they should add a new tab, where you can manage your overall supply network. Being able to click where the supply ships will sail from and what port they will land on. Give reports on situations like civilian traffic, and refugee issues. Hell, It'd be cool. But if you had to properly balance Civilian and Military exports would be great. Things also like being able to allow your soldiers to receive letters and care-packages from home. But will put a bigger strain on your supply network. But allow you to have better morale troops.
