The Battle of Kesselsdorf, 1745 ⚔️ | Frederick the Great's Second Silesian War (1744-1745)

The epic, but unanticipated battle of Kesselsdorf cemented Prussia's position during peace negotiations. It was the final battle of the Second Silesian War and ensured Prussia's acquisition of Silesia. At least, for the time being. The peace was nothing more than a truce.

Another great video. I rarely comment on videos but here I have to make an exception. Coming from Brandenburg, this is very interesting history and I love seeing Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau in action. I learned about him first as a child when reading some (historically probably questionable) book from Karl May about him. Also, with the background around the battles, I get a better feeling why my father always stated that Prussia was extremely lucky in this time period and really came barely through against all odds. P.S.: I was also happy to see you working with Histore Marche recently. They do great stuff but you're really catching up :)

It's so "weird" or incredible how the Prussians seems to attack in unfavourable conditions in both numbers and terrain and somehow still came out victorious. Frederick couldn't help himself but to betrayed his allies, huh?

Thanks for the quick updates! Can't wait for the seven years war. ^^ I would like to know what was the battle plan here. It seemed very foolish to launch a frontal assault with the odds stacked against the Prussians. Was it meant to be sort of a diversionary tactic so the north and left flank can cross the river and hopefully encircle the Saxons? I am interested in naval battles too, like in the Anglo Dutch Wars. Would like to learn more about Admiral De Ruyter.

In a revealing account after the battle, it is said how Frederick toured the battlefield and remarked the charge was dangerous and reckless. He would have never picked Kesselsdorf as an area for attack. He supposedly said the outcome of the battle compensated for the poor battle plan.

I use to think that why frederick spared saxony, even after conquering breslau. Now here is the answer. You have added musket valley's sound here which has turned battle sequence even more interesting and as always your map quality is even more great in this video.

This is an interesting period in European history. It is not taught in UK because of the 1715 & 45 Jacobite Rebellions then onto the American war of Independence with just a brief mention of General Wolfe capturing Quebec but not much else about the 7 years war

@@HoH I have been growing up in eastern Ukraine where Russian is widely spread. And the word "tsarina" or "tsaryna" stands for "the edge of the village; arable land, pasture, paddock" in Ukrainian and dialectical Russian. And in literature or other historical staf the most common reference to the Elisabeth of Russia is the empress.

Just saying but I can’t wait to see the 3rd Silesian war and the seven years war and I can’t wait to see the seven years war because the war had an impact on my ancestors and my heritage and the impact it had on my ancestors is my 6x and 5x great grandparents and their families were living in the Palatinate upon the Rhine and when the war came to that area my ancestors boarded a boat on the Rhine river and sailed up the river to its mouth at Rotterdam and from their they bought passage on a ship called the Neptune and the Neptune took them to the area that is now Philadelphia Pennsylvania which at the time was part of Great Britain 🇬🇧 and I also can’t wait to see the battle of Hochkirch and the reason Is because one of my fellow Scottish brother’s died fighting in the service of Fredrick the great and his name is James Keith and what I mean by fellow Scottish brother is even though I am part Scottish I still consider anyone part or full Scottish to be my Scottish brother or sister.

it doesnt matter the quality, if the commander is bad, it can all go in vain. Frederick made a good quality army and efficiently and effectively used them, thats why he is different.

Don't know about wars but kolin, hochkirch, maxen, domstadtl and landeshut from the silesian wars are battles I can think of off the top of my head, you also have von traun's 1744 campaign

They won a series of wars against the turks. And have won plenty of battles. Look of Prince Eugene of Savoy for example.
