The Battle of Mogadishu was 18 hours of the most intense urban combat experienced by US troops since the Vietnam War. Unorganized blocks of concrete buildings, sparse trees, and dilapidated shacks topped with corrugated metal made for a chaotic battlefield. The downing of two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters on Oct. 3, 1993, changed what was supposed to be a fairly straightforward raid into a desperate rescue mission.

I am from Somalia, Americans like to be Portrayed as a hero , but the reality was very different back then , I remember an old Somali man with 4 soldiers went to the US rangers base which was close to Mogadishu in the night, sneaked into the military base and captured 4 of them , so they told them to go with them , the Americans refused it , unfortunately they were beheaded and the Somali militias took the 4 heads and went back to the city. Americans killed mostly Somali civilians, but they were massacred horribly ,that's why they didn't go back to Somali since 2014. The problem was we knew shooting without learning it , but Americans wanted to kill us without getting injured. Thanks to our Malaysian brothers who evacuated them.

Fun fact: Back in the 1980s Mohamed Farah Aideed owned a 200k dollars house (big amount at the time) in Diamond bar California that he gave to his ex-wife and his 6 children who are all American citizens now. His second wife was living on welfare in Toronto Canada and his kids from that wife became Canadian citizens. Mohammed Farah Aideed made a considerable amount of money trafficking weed from and to India when he was Somalia's ambassador there and through contracts with the Italian government (he was educated in italy back in the 50s). He was a self-serving warlord. If the U.S didn't fall into his traps they wouldn't have lost so many soldiers and became the bad guys in the eyes of the average illiterate Somali camel herder who before the civil war was living in one of the safest countries not only in Africa but in the entire world to the point that the Emire of Kuwait (the minister of foreign affairs back then) would walk around in Mogadishu without guards.

I'm from North Africa , I admire US in Clinton Era , no doubt that the American intentions were good interfering in Somalia , but with all that tactical power there a problem in gathering intel understanding conservative societies and how corruption and fanatic work , at that time US was dealing with Saddam even though both classified as similar to deal with but Iraq is beyond different than Somalia , plus Somalia can't be classified as Africans believe me to whome may know Somalia is special case , (horn of africa) I've known few Somali friends beautiful people with so much self pride , to me they like afgani pashto (when it comes to pride ) , now in modern time it's a little different you got educated intellectual fighting religion fanatics even though those educated intellectual dont have problem with religion authority but for fanatics education is a western thing and it may lead to overthrow religion in future as it happened in the west and how chruch eventually been pushed by science ...

the UN. have you watched the full vid or even read about the events? it was first as security for the UN food shipments since Aidid and other warlords were stealing the food aid, UN brought in Peacekeepers to secure the shipment. when the UN started doing heavy handed tactics on civilians it turned the Somalis against them, then Aidid killed 24 Pakistani Peacekeepers, that's when the US started intervening and bringing in more chaos to Somalia and themselves. there were still UN and US forces in Somalia after this battle though
