Balanced well, played well-enough for my punk rock ears, and I made money with it. Paid $400US - with my employee discount. It was $700 to customers. Put the headstock through a low ceiling in a club in Boston. Had it fixed by luthier Carlo Greco. He's the guy who designed most of Guild's hollow bodies. Carlo said, in his thick Portuguese accent, "Luther, this guitar is no good." He measures the distance of frets in the upper range with a micrometer. They were the same distance apart. Carlo did a great repair. I sold it for $400. Then I got a SWEET deal on an ESP M1 - direct from ESP. Much better guitar. That's another story.

The reality is that B.C. Rich built its reputation in the 70s and 80s and hasn’t been the same brand in decades. By the mid to late 90s they were already primarily selling low end garbage (Bronze) and solid mid-range imports (NJ series). If you’re a fan of the brand and want a good one you’re better off looking for an original vintage one than ordering a new Custom Shop which is almost certainly going to be ghost built these days.

You can’t find a 20 year old NJ Beast for less than $1000-$1200. This sucks for two reasons, finding them is hard, and second of all due to the huge vacuum that exists now with the brand being short of virtually everything, it drives the old, even lackluster stuff up crazy high, so younger (broke) players, like myself, have a hard time getting one. It really is a shame, some of my fav guitarists use BC Rich for a long time, and they are a legendary brand. Too bad they’ve had such bad luck for so long now.

Their Gunslinger and Shredzilla guitars are good players but they are high dollar even used .Its hard to find a quality Rich especially Ameican made and if you do it's going to cost you. It would be nice if they went back to the old headstock with the R on it. I've seen that Chuck Schulinder model for sale on Reverb. You would probably like the Gunslinger it's kinda a super strat. All I ever see in Guitar Center are the cheap Warlocks and the cheap Kerry Kings sometimes a newer production mockingbird.

I got an import lefty Stealth Legacy from Thomann (only place I've seen one), and it's a solid guitar for the $1200 I paid (DiMarzio pickups, locking Grover tuners, Grover strap locks, nice-feeling switch and push/pull pot). The neck is a bit on the wide side, but it's still an excellent guitar. But they don't seem to have any lefty support beyond special distributor runs (XLG, Thomann, and I think Drum City Guitar Land are the only places that have carried lefty models...I follow the lefty listings on Reverb). All this, and BC Rich still has better lefty support than Jackson (Jackson has TWO worthwhile lefty models; a Pro Series Soloist and a Pro Series Monarkh...both in black). Jackson hasn't introduced a single new lefty model in like 7 years, and their parent company (Fender) makes more variant production Stratocasters (all the different finishes on the Player, American Professional, and American Ultra series) than Jackson has in their entire list of SKUs. I know Schecter gets a lot of hate, but they (along with LTD, Fender, and Gibson) are the only major companies that have a solid lineup of affordable production lefty models.

There are material costs, labor, etc. Paint costs a fortune(especially custom colors) what if it doesn’t turn out properly(it does happen). There are so many factors. Check out Jacksons CS. I’ve been trying to get a bass made for 6 years and get denied because of labor shortages, my quote in 2015 was $5700 if they had time to do it. The term "hand made" gets thrown around way too much. I find it quite annoying actually. In reality, the only way to be truly hand made is if you completely take electricity out of the equation. Hand held electric power tools are still a relative form of automation even if it is not controlled by a computer. In order to accurately say your thing is completely hand made, you must be limited to hand held saws, files, chisels and blades with no electricity whatsoever. I seriously doubt the current BC Rich is doing anything that resembles actual hand made work. Bernie Junior did some custom shop work for them years back. They were probably the last semi hand made guitars ever branded with the name. The term "hand made" is more of a marketing strategy than anything else these days. I doubt there are any large scale guitar brands that come anywhere close to hand made. Some companies will falsely claim they build hand made guitars even if they used CNC equipment for the whole build.
