"God only Knows." The song Paul McCartney said he wishes he had written. Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney had a friendly rivalry as both are geniuses in songwriting and arrangement expertise. Both admired the other very much.

Hey Shawn! One of their best. Please check out the full length version of “Good Vibrations”, it’s a sonic experience you won’t regret. Also, “God Only Knows” and “Sloop John B”. BTW, the smile on your face says it all as far as what The Beach Boys do to the listener. The Beatles cited The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” album as part of the catalyst for them to get even more experimental in the studio and result was “Sgt. Pepper’s” album. Pretty high compliment.

The Beatles and The Beach Boys had a friendly rivalry, and often copied each other's sounds. Listen to "Back in the USSR" from the White Album to hear their little tribute to The Beach Boys. Brian Wilson was a true musical genius and perfectionist, and was The Beach Boys main writer and arranger, also played bass and was the highest voice. The Mamas and the Papas borrowed from their style, too. All those layers, ba ba bas, oooohs, etc, were very iconic. Paul McCartney always said that the song he wished he had written is The Beach Boys' God Only Knows. That should be your next listen. But their earlier, lighter stuff is great too. Check out Fun Fun Fun or Help Me Rhonda.

Shawn, you should listen to the acapella version of this and several of the other tracks from their "Pet Sounds" album. Those harmonies are just incredible without the music.

"50 First Dates"!! Brian at the top of his form vocally for sure. And those vocal arrangements, as you say. There are a capella versions of this tune out there. Swear the song's fade sounds like West Coast street corner doo-wop. Wrecking Crew for sure. Cars and girls. Where is that story from? Seems overstated . Have you listened to "The Trader"? Worth a listen. Thanks.

This song is from The Beach Boy's 1966 album Pet Sounds. Brian Wilson was the genius songwriter of the group. They span many decades but I love their early stuff from the 60's-70's. Their music conveys such happy innocent days of youth (surfing, cars, romance). They had tons of hits such as "Surfin' Safari", "I Get Around", "California Girls", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Barbara Ann", "Sloop John B.", "Fun Fun Fun", "Little Deuce Coupe", "God Only Knows", "In My Room" etc.
