That final zoom-in on "Every Second Counts" never fails to reduce me to tears. Hits me right in the heart every time. Our lives are only so long, (a reminder the show often employs through Mikey, someone who died much earlier than he could have) so its important that we spend it with the people we love whilst *working on ourselves.*

The next episode has one of my favorite moments of the season in Richie’s apology conversation with Nat (and Gary observing) in her office. So tender. Richie is such a redeeming character and this episode was like a parable. So satisfying to see him have a perspective shift. I also love how they use music and montages in this series. Nobody does it better, imo. Radiohead, Mulatu Astatke, Wilco, Mavis Staples, Taylor Swift, and REM just off the top of my head. The musical score is also done masterfully. It brings a lot of tension and emotion…and more abstract, meditative music in season 3 to match the longer form montages like in episode 1.

I absolutely adore the use of Love Story in this episode. I'm barely even a music appreciator let alone a TSwift fan but it's just the perfect background music for Ritchie falling back in love with life.
