Carmy is already bad at prioritizing tasks. Sugar and Pete have been together for 5+ years (Fishes episode), are married, and are currently expecting a kid. Carmy & Claire JUST started dating. In a new relationship, you have to tend to it constantly. In an established relationship you're more comfortable with spending some time apart. It sucks that they were doomed bc of bad timing.

I think Carmy assumed Syd's mom was alive because she'd said in a previous episode that her plans that night were a bithday dinner for her mom, but she never clarified it was just her and her dad celebrating.😊

When Maple said "Why can't he do both like a normal person"; he's not a normal person. The reason he became the best chef in the world at the best restaurant is because he is psychotic. He is insane because everything he did was to become the best. Claire distracts him from that. That is why it is such a struggle for him because he left home and literally just focused on getting better. Claire doesn't let him do that. And if you notice his panic attack in the beginning of the episode, the only thing that calmed him down was the thought of Syd....

Also Carmy is very avoidant, he runs away from uncomfortable and difficult situations. It's why he became estranged from his family to work in haute cuisine, and it's why when Cicero confronts him with having to choose between Claire and The Bear, he doesn't really choose. Maybe if Cicero had never told him he had to choose, he would've shut Claire down to focus on the restaurant, but he did so instead of running from Claire, Carmy ran from the choice itself.

It's the restaurant keeping him from being happy. This relationship would be the first of many disappointments if he doesn't fix himself. I hope he can fix things with Claire, that would show he's grown enough to balance his work and personal life. Despite the rocky start, Claire WAS good for him. His monologue while stuck in the freezer explained the toxic mindset he's had pretty well: that his misery is what makes him good. That's just not true. And even if it is, is it even worth it to trade your happiness for a successful but bleak existence.

The Alex Gonzalez analogy aka the Steve Bartman game of the 2003 NLCS to the opening of the restaurant was interesting. Particular relevant to North Siders and/or Cubs fans everywhere. What people lose sight of is that it came in Game 6. The Cubs still had the opportunity to win the series in Game 7 the following evening once again at Wrigley Field, which they did not do. But they finally did win a World Series 13 years later against the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians). The Guardians have now supplanted the Cubs as the team, who has gone the longest time without a championship (1948).

This episode has the perfect example of why I feel the actress playing Sydney is the weakest person on this show. People interpret the conversation with Carmen as being “intimate/sexual” than it actually is because she has such poor line delivery. Because of that, people actually think that even though this episode started with Carmen and Claire consummating the potential relationship they’ve had since they were in school is now null and void because he had a talk with a colleague.

You fail to realize that Carmy had a whole panic attack scene after sleeping with Claire & she still couldn’t calm him down during said panic attack. Sydney did. Carmy tells Sydney that he “wouldn’t want to do this without” her, that he “won’t let” her melt, when she”s expressing to him her fears about opening and running the restaurant. I’m not a shipper btw, just annoyed at your comments. Ayo’s acting is fine, literally everyone talking about a possible romance between them focuses on Carmy, mainly because we haven’t really seen any interest on Sydney’s end, so maybe your issue is with Jeremy Allen White, or the show creators who had that panic attack scene made.
