Dave still puts on a heck of a show.

I only got to see him as DW and his band in LA. It was surreal. Seeing him performing the beat + lyrics but also watching some audience members on a Hens Night, drunk as in puffy bridesmaids' dresses, dancing some weird non bluebeat dance step to the tunes of Stand Down Margie, Tears of a Clown, Doors of Your Heart , etc to a predominately white audience. Bewildering? Yes! for a moment. Until I used that observed weirdness to map and safeguard my immersion into LA culture.

two brilliant ska covers here; imo "Tears Of A Clown" and "Can't Get Used To Losing You" are better than the originals

Did they cry, because Margaret refused to stand down? This is still my favorite political protest song.

that was then Germany has past us now we are supposed to be multileracial now but we hardly have any reggae on the radio or ska on the radio that's why we need the beat back to mash up the station with the truth!!!! murder style

Hell's teeth, man, Germany - what gives? 'Why I cry' both beats and pre-empts the current stab-in-the-dark world of televisual subtitling and is also hilarious. Stand down Margaret even now chimes loud and clear, perhaps more so...brilliant post nevertheless - ta!
@skabuoy2 жыл бұрын
Not just TV subtitles. I have a Sting bootleg album, where several titles are plain wrong, but the biggest error is the song "Low Life" (a Police single b-side), which is called "Lola". :-/
@katoness8 жыл бұрын
Excellent performance from The Beat but whats with the crowd?
@johnnyb88258 жыл бұрын
+katoness Maybe they're not used to this kind of music. I remember the Beat saying that when they played support to the Pretenders in the USA they got a rock audience and people just stood there and gawped.
@mlwsf5 жыл бұрын
It's a German Studio audience. Lol
@skabuoy2 жыл бұрын
@@mlwsf Rockpalast, on German WDR station, was/(is?) usually a regular gig but with a camera crew to record for TV. They also recorded and aired a lot of festival shows, which I think they still do, with some of them online now. Or at least they were pretty recently (sorry, I can't be arsed to check right now).

@@kooljsl Yes, he worked with the ska/rocksteady/early reggae greats of the 1960s such as Laurel Aitken and Prince Buster.
