The greatest band ever. The progression of their music over 7 years is beyond compare. No one comes close.
@BrendanBrown14 жыл бұрын
Oh my god yes, exactly. There are so many bands that did the the same genre of music and never broke out and experimented with different types of music. The Beatles from Rubber Soul onward were always doing different stuff.

mntlPurple Pet sounds is phenomenal but that was the beach boy's Apex, after that they never reached that level of greatness again, while the beatles only continued to get more and more innovative with each record. it really does suck that Smile wasnt released until much later, if it were it would've shocked the music world completely since it was so ahead of it's time.

This is a masterpiece that you need to not only listen to, but FEEL, to get the full effect. To really feel, you need to stop your thoughts and let your soul absorb the true essence and British historical vibrations that are embedded within.

Love the fact that you’re reacting to The Beatles. This and other music from this era should be listened to without watching a video. The music from the 60’s and 70’s did not have videos associated with them. To me they can be unnecessary distractions from fully appreciating the sound. Just a suggestion. Cheers

When I first heard this song in '88 on the Blue Album it completely blew my mind, I remember replacing the needle on the record to play the track again and again with my hand shaking with excitement. I must have listened to it about a dozen times and was late for wherever I was supposed to be when. Eleven out of ten (Ray is a tone deaf philistine.)
@johnandrews31514 жыл бұрын
This song was not released in the USA as a single but that didn't stop it from getting massive AirPlay. John Lennon actually took the lyrics from a London newspaper! Meant to be played LOUD! By the way, you clipped the most iconic ending chord in music history. Try the songs called Savoy Truffle and Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey.
@johndowney87743 жыл бұрын
This wasn't a hit single but it was the climactic final song on one of the most creative and innovative albums ever recorded. It needs to be listened to in that context. The guy on the right is sharp and aware. The guy in the left is hopeless. And get the volume right. We need to hear it and you should hear the songs in a good presentation sonically speaking.

First: i love your enthusiasm for fantastic music (no matter when it was created; as you all know, great art transcends time.) Second: this video background that appears during The Day in the Life is only tangentially related to the music. It's incongruous and only serves as a distraction to this great song. nearly always, videos set to music, post facto, detract from the musical enjoyment. When the video documents the musicians actually performing what is being listened to, then the video serves the music and can enhance the whole experience. Watch -- and listen -- to Snarky Puppy, live in the studio: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpC7e5Kpaq6mh8U (this is music for people who love music!)

You could try some Kinks: Waterloo Sunset or Come Dancing are my favourites, but most Ray Davies songs tell a story. I don't know what your mate likes, but Hey Jude or In My Life may impress him more than A Day In The Life. Personally, I am still as impressed today a I was in 1967

Major clues in this song to the death of Paul McCartney saying House of Paul instead of House of Lords which is what the lyrics say on the album itself

I can understand the guy on the left not appreciating The Beatles. Back in the day in 1967 when this track came out I was 21 years old and if someone had played me a track from 1914 I too would find it hard to be positive.The trouble with experience you have to spend many precious years getting it.Don't waste any of that time.

The volume on the song was very low on my computer. And I've always felt this v ideo was a distraction from the landscape of the song. The video isn't relevant to the lyrics, it was just a promotional video from footage shot at the recording session. Still, in my opinion one of the greatest and most innovative Beatles masterpieces.

Chris gets it. Ray, I suspect he's so used to today's music sound. Sure the Beales may sound so trite and maybe naive even by comparison. One has to try to throw out all those heavy compressed sounds with subwoofer of today's music and try to think back to a simpler time when radio play was only 3 minutes. And, then the Beatles come out with this among their full catalog. Hit? It was listened too a lot for being so different than anything else or ever being written and played.

@papercup25173 жыл бұрын
Bill Shepherd, who did the Pepperpots novelty records, was a music executive who worked mainly for the BeeGees. (Look him up in any music industry register, if you're in doubt.) He died in the 1980s and his family are pretty p----d off at all the conspiracy theorists who still make up or spread around these stupid beliefs about their Dad. He did look vaguely like Paul when he was younger, which was apparently enough to start the rumour/belief. Of course there are as many versions of the PID conspiracy theory as there are believers, because everyone just embellishes and alters it to suit themselves. It has no basis, as far as I've been able to ascertain, in truth.

Who is that kid on the left, and why would you play an album track to someone who clearly has no ear or appreciation for revolutionary music from decades ago. There were no "hits" off of Sgt. Pepper, there were no singles released from the album. The first two songs they recorded for it were Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever and they put that out as a single. The Beatles didn't put out singles off of their albums, they put out singles but they weren't on the albums. With only one or two exceptions. They considered putting the same song on an album that people had already bought as a single was cheating their audience. They were revolutionary in every way, they changed music, fashion, popular culture, the world, everything. Oh, and men's hairstyles in a big big way. They evolved and the world evolved with them.

My recommendation to Ray , to show their diversity , Eleanor Rigby. I was disappointed to his reaction but to each their own. I do agree that he may not be exposed to the catalog of the Beatles as the other reviewer obviously has been. This is not a bash to ray but a show of ignorance or personal tastes. What ever it is, I do respect him for his opinion. It may be opposed to mine , but that is the way it is.

George Harrison. All Things Must Pass Album a must. 3 LP set that I bought when it came out 27 November 1970 and 2 Cd set January 2001. Produced by Harrison and Phil Spector. Ray is only young doesn't know any better. Sgt Peppers came out when I was still at school and 50 yrs later I bought the 50th anniversary 2 CD, likewise I waited for the white album's 2009 remaster which I bought in 2019 and waited another 2 weeks to listen to it, never had the LP. Saw a hard days night at the cinema whenever that was. Looking forward to ZEP. FYI the group dropped the 'a' in lead at the suggestion of their manager, Peter Grant, so that those unfamiliar with the term would not pronounce it "leed". The word "balloon" was replaced by "zeppelin"

"i don't buy into the hype" Really, you think a band that disbanded over a half a century ago are only recognized because of hype? That's pretty amazing hype in my opinion to last half a century - wow - "I respect them for what they've done but they're AVERAGE" ?? seriously average?? I respect the fact that there are people who don't like Beethoven for example, but i'd lose respect if they called Beethoven's music hype.

The volume for the video you two are reviewing is so low, it almost isn't worth watching you react. Please, the Beatles should be heard more loudly than your own speaking voices. If your video sound was as loud as you channel intros and outros, it would be great. New subscriber, for now.

@Chris Hickey It's not really a question of whether one "likes" the Beatles. Their innovations, fills, progressions, and musical constructs are still being used everywhere in today's music. That's why the film "Yesterday" was ridiculous. They, for all intents and purposes, never broke up.
