One of the greatest songs ever. Never mind those documentaries on how The Beatles didn't get along during the White Album sessions... you can't make music like this if your not getting along.

It's been reported that because Ringo had left the band for a spell that Paul did the drums for this and Back in USSR. But there's been some discussion that the Dear Prudence track has two drummers and it sounds to me that Ringo might've been asked to help fix this track after he returned. It sounds more like Ringo drumming at the end than Paul, it has Ringo's signature style which Paul couldn't really imitate. When I listen now, it sounds like two drum tracks were used, Paul's for the first 2 min 49 sec, then it's likely Ringo took it from 2:50 onward. Even has a subtle difference in the drum tone.

Aren't we lucky it occurred to someone to take these home movies?! How wonderful to see an individual shot of Jane Asher at ease and smiling, in her eternal place among the Beatles entourage. What a time that was; a time that will never be repeated in the same way. Here were the Beatles and friends in seatch of inner peace, in a remote part of the world, Rishikesh India. While in another remote part of the world, a war was raging in Vietnam, along with its utter violence and destruction. Lots of credit to George Harrison (RIP) for leading the Beatles on this endeavor. If only George could have successfully appealed to world leaders of the time into joining him and his bandmates and friends on the same interior journey, in which case, there probably would never have been a war in Vietnam. In retrospect, Dear George certainly seemed to be on the right track. (What about these days? Are we...on the right track?)

@user-zq3rh8nu7q 11 күн бұрын
What, like the Beatles didn't then split up amidst bitter recriminations and personal feuds that lasted until JL's death and beyond? Great model for world peace, I must say. And what role did hardcore drugs play in all this again? Total and utter romantic-delusional codswallop! Oh, and by the way, for those who live there (close to 1.5bn people - soon-to-be the world's most populous country, if not already) India neither is nor was it ever "a remote part of the world" - not even Rishikesh situated on the Ganges river. As for Vietnam , how, exactly, does its 100 million people living on the border of the world's other most populous country comply with your definition of "remote"??? A Western-centric worldview accompanied by a heavy dose of Orientalism thrown in. Well done for total lack of self-awreness or perspective. Maybe that's why this vision of peace and love that you are so quick to ascribe to the Beatles never quite took off: it has little-to-no link with reality!!! So, in answer to your question: no, you are clearly not on the right track.

I'm reading the book Wonderful Tonight by Pattie Boyd (George Harrison & Eric Clapton's ex-wife) and she tells about their time together there in Rishikesh, India and that this song was written by John Lennon while there for Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence Farrow, because she stayed in her room meditating for about 2 weeks and wouldn't come out. Pattie said the boys would stand outside her room and sing it to her. That's what brought me here to listen to this song. I had no idea the song was about Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence, and I had no idea I would see this wonderful video by John Lennon of their time there. Wonderful surprise! Great song! The book is great, by the way.

Thanks for the recommendation, now I want to read the book. Just a thought: if Prudence HAD come out to play would this song still have been recorded and released? I'm glad she stayed in her room otherwise we wouldn't have heard one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Peace xxx

I had a crazy thought. When I saw John in the helicopter I thought, “What if John Lennon died during that trip to India.” The Beatles and John Lennon would be even _more_ popular, which is a very hard thing to imagine

This is my first ever listening of the Beatles version. Takes some getting used too after Siouxsie! Paul could be the workaholic he wanted to be after they broke up but it was the other three’s music I liked more.
