Just my brief impression of the story Poor Eleanor (Rigby) was lonely, living a dream of finding true love, but all she can do is "pick up the rice, from the church where a wedding has been", while trying to imagine a loving commitment with another person, perhaps? Living out of touch of having a love interest in life "......Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door Who is it for?" Then, we have the same thing for Father McKenzie sitting alone at night, "Writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear No one comes near Look at him working Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there....... What does he care?" Paul McCartney Both living alone without an inner connection to their soul or light identity, or share with significant others in their lives, whether they lived together or not. Neither one found their inner love first, their light, to share, no one was saved? All captured by the Beatles beautiful harmony and tone as a 19 century mini gothic tragedy.

@@Mikkey-z9r When I was a kid (I'm 62 now), I was made to go to church. The congregation had a lot of single old people, very old when you are 6 or 7!! This record always makes me think back to that time. A lot of those old people, who I knew had lost their Husbands/wives were probably very lonely. They looked lonely to me if that makes sense. A fantastic song which really makes you think! Dave.

This proves that the Beatles could do anything. They were a genre all by themselves

Yep, that’s Paul singing his own masterpiece composition. One of the most original and best Beatles songs.

This was from their animated movie "Yellow Submarine". Saw it in '68, front row tripping. Loved it. Top 40 radio did not want 3:00 singles. The Stones and Beatles paid no attention to the lengths of their songs because they knew their singles would always be played.

It was included in the YS movie, but that came later - it wasn't composed for it., or with any idea of it being included in a movie in the future. So, a completely separate work. (In fact the Beatles had virtually nothing to do with the YS movie, they just agreed let their images and music be used by others to fulfil a contractual obligation, IIRC.) Glad you enjoyed it, anyway! 😀

Keep in mind that each song by The Beatles has a distinct sound/flavor, they very rarely copied themselves. I Want to Hold Your Hand, A Hard Day's Night, Michelle, Rain, And Your Bird Can Sing, I Am the Walrus, Helter Skelter, and Something are all completely different and all completely Beatles.

Eleanor Rigby was recorded in 1966. So was Yellow Submarine. 2 years later it was used for the Yellow Submarine animated movie, . When we boomers first heard it, there was no so called "video" to go with it. Lawdy Lawdy, we used our imagination, and listened with our ears and not our eayes.

McCartney initially played this song on acoustic guitar when George Martin suggested using a double string quartet. McCartney agreed but wanted a very "biting" sound and suggest a hard staccato. This did not sit well with the string musicians and they refused to play in that manner thinking it would sound like crap. But McCartney insisted stating it had to be played as such and he did not waver. They finally played the song as Paul wanted and we now hear today that final result. But the string musicians were somewhat annoyed and declined an invitation to listen to the playback. So it goes.

Just a pedantic correction: this slightly confuses ER with the story of Yesterday, where George Martin persuaded Paul to use a string quartet. In the case of ER, the arrangement (a string octet) was Paul's own idea. Jane Asher had "turned Paul on to Vivaldi," in John Lennon's words. "The violins were his idea, I can't claim any credit." George Martin and Paul both confirm that.

Yes, by all means keep doing Beatles reactions! They have so many good songs that it's hard to say what to do next, but "Hey Jude" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" are two that you should definitely hear at some point as you explore the Beatles.

Perhaps you could share your thoughts on the fact that this song was from 1966 and you are reacting to it the same way we (seniors)reacted to it originally back then ??????????????No one seems to cover that point on "reactions"....thanks.....Peace and Love

The Beatles could rock out when they wanted to but they were too busy experimenting most of the time. No one could produce a short but impactful masterpiece like that today. Not possible. After all these years I still shudder when I hear the line "No one was saved." You: "That was really good." Please try to contain your enthusiasm MT :) Your generation doesn't have a template, a frame of reference, for what constitutes good music. It's not your fault

They had some really amazing songs, both music and lyrics. But, and I know this is a highly unpopular opinion, they put out a lot of junk that is more fit for a group of older drunken friends singing at a piano bar, such as Rocky Raccon, than for popular radio or dancing. IMO
