I agree. as big as the Beatles were, it didn't go to their heads like it did with Elvis and Michael Jackson. i think it was because there were four of them and they kept each other grounded.

That was the secret.. Although Elvis got on really well with his backing band, still not quite the same as early teen mates, They weld together, as brothers. I was in a teen band in the late 60s and we are still as one mind, Three of the four friends since early childhood,

well that's the advantage of getting famous as part of a group. they are more likely to ground each other, because you have people able to directly relate to, during the staggering psychological pressure test, also known as fame

I have actually never thought of Elvis as "letting it go to his head". He always remembered his roots being born into poverty and he was always generous with people, even people he didn't know. Despite racist backlash he used his platform to advocate for the black community. By a lot of accounts, he was a shy and humble guy in a lot of ways. The Beatles were huge fans.

@@stevedahlberg8680 of course it went to his head - he surrendered himself with people who wouldn’t tell him no - even when it was for his own good. That’s why he ended up dying the way he did. Same with Michael Jackson - nobody was willing to tell Michael no and he ended up accidentally killing himself.

Yes, and that clip also gives us an opportunity to talk about the early '60s Liverpool trend for adopting obscure American records. Despite having a Lieber/Stoller connection, Richie Barratt's Some Other Guy wasn't a hit anywhere - but once the Beatles discovered it, and the Searchers/Pacemakers et al followed, it became almost "the" emblematic song of the Merseybeat scene. (Rivalled only by Chan Romero's signature song, which hadn't been much of a hit either).
