This is one of my favorite George song because it was written on the Hammond organ which had taken over George's musical time for 1967 and into 1968.

In my humble opinion and loving The Beatles since 1964 I really like this song as much as any!! George Martin's arrangement is INCREDIBLE!! The horn selections alone does any other Beatlemaniac also love this song!!

It's kinda floaty and pychadelic but with thudding drums that begin to annoy.

Actually, I don't think Geore Martin had anything to do with the original recording...that's why it sounds wonderfully chaotic.

"It's All Too Much" fits well in the soundtrack to The Yellow Submarine, with the frenetic soundscape of the song complementing the frenetic animation of parts of the film. The hand claps in this song are very important as far as the psychedelic accompaniment goes. They're like a steady heartbeat helping the listener remain grounded while perceptions run amok.

This was originally recorded in Sgt. Pepper sessions, but didn’t make that cut and ended up in Yellow Submarine. I sometimes think where on the album I’d place this, and Penny Lane, and Strawberry Fields.

You missed commenting about Patti Harrison (George's wife) & the inspiration for this song: "Your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue..." Pretty lyrics 🌹♥💋💌💘

This song was head over heals ahead of its time, the separation gap between this song and what was the norm it was at the time, was so wide it's never been duplicated since - listen to Lennon's killer lead guitar work, the song also features two different beats...unless proven wrong, was the first time in rock n roll history a band did this technique.

Beatles began recording "It's All Too Much" on 25 May 1967 at De Lane Lea Studios, located on Kingsway in central London. With producer George Martin not in attendance that day, nor for the subsequent session, on the 26th, the band produced the recording themselves. The song had the working title of "Too Much", a phrase that journalist Robert Fontenot terms "beatnik vernacular for an experience that was exceptionally mindblowing". The group taped four takes. Martin thought it was too much.

I don't know if you have reacted/listened to any (many) other Beatles songs - but if you have not this is towards the outer limits of their content - so; it's hard to place this into the world as we know it today - but, as a Beatles fan from the very begining, it not too much, it makes perfect sense to me...

Cimdy, this is a George Harrison song and vocal written for the Yellow Submarine movie....pretty trippy hippy stuff...psychedelic. the cartoon movie with this song playing in that section for he movie was far out wild. Maybe you should just watch the movie.

For the drumming it looks like they grabbed something close by and started banging in it, pots and pans. In flamenco a box is used to bang on, it might have come from South America.

George Harrison could hold a grudge. George Martin openly displayed his disdain for It's Only A Northern Song. Stating flatly it had no place on the bands next album (Sgt Pepper). Harrison knew he needed Martin's help in scoring and transcribing his Eastern influenced Within You Without You for the studio musicians. George didn't want to record his newest composition at EMI. Harrison wanted to liberate himself from EMI's stale conditions and Martin's scrutiny. So the band spent 3 nights at De Lane Lee Studios, located in the Soho district of Central London. These 3 sessions were described by those in attendance as uninhibited, experimental and a whole lot of fun. Harrison never got over Martins dismissal of It's Only A Northern Song. The fallout was Harrison and Martins relationship was never the same. RNB

Only a northern song is not a good song. Musically it's interesting but lyricly it's a cynical and moaning piece of work. It doesn't matter what I do, it will sell anyway?? It's not very respectful towards your public. George Martin got it right
@ricknbacker56262 жыл бұрын
@@hubabava Especially when held in comparison to the songs already recorded or underway: Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane When I'm 64, A Day In The Life, Fixing A Hole, Good Morning Good Morning, Mr Kite and She's leaving Home. Compared to these tracks Northern Song is underwhelming. One thing needed for consideration is that songwriters are very sensitive when introducing a new song. In George's case it was much harder. Competing for album space with Lennon and McCartney is a daunting challenge. Mr. Martin could have been more tactful in his dealing with Georges song, because he was all too aware of Georges inferiority complex. To be openly shamed was a bridge to far for Harrison and he never forgave George Martin for his bare-knuckled dressing down. Cheers, RNB

The Beatles are the greatest 4 person group ever. That said, with so many songs there are a few that aren’t that great. This is one of those songs. Not so great😊
