I love how you weren't sure at first but Ringo's drum fill made you smile and the rest sold you. This is one of my favorite songs. Makes me wonder what might have been if they had let him do more songs on the album.

If he'd been allowed to flourish earlier,just imagine what he might have created.Paul was so dismissive of his compositional talent.John,for me will always be no.1 , ,but George comes a very close 2nd.I have never rated Paul that much of a composer.👍🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️🐊🐊🐊

When The Beatles had finished recording the Sgt Peppers album they were worried that all the production techniques they had used in making it had ruined their abilities as live musicians so they started jamming in the studio to get their musical chops back together. One night they played til about 2am and the Abbey Road staff all went home and left the keys with the boys. It's All Too Much is the only recording they "jammed" together at this time (May 1967) that has been released. Glad you enjoyed this overlooked track Jayy! ;)

Written by the great George Harrison in an attempt to convey his experiences with LSD. As a side note, George, John and their wives were invited to dinner at George’s dentist’s home and at some point realized that the dentist had drugged their coffee with LSD and did not want them to leave…totally bizarre, but true. Back to the video though. I love this song! It’s such a vibe. I really only started listening to it a few years ago. Would be one of the songs that dispel the myth that the Beatles are just some “boy band.” Great reaction from you too.

George Harrison could hold a grudge. George Martin openly displayed his disdain for Only A Northern Song. Stating flatly it had no place on the bands next album (Sgt Pepper). Harrison knew he needed Martin's help in scoring and transcribing his Eastern influenced Within You Without You for the studio musicians. George didn't want to record his newest composition at EMI. Harrison wanted to liberate himself from EMI's stale conditions and Martin's scrutiny. So the band spent 3 nights at De Lane Lee Studios, located in the Soho district of Central London. These 3 sessions were described by those in attendance as uninhibited, experimental and a whole lot of fun. Harrison never got over Martins dismissal of Only A Northern Song. The fallout was Harrison and Martins relationship was never the same. RNB

If Martin was really so ugly towards Harrison regarding OANS, that's appalling. I bet he wouldn't have handled things the same way had it been Paul or John's composition. Martin's assessment was totally wrong. OANS would have been a highlight on Sgt Pepper, an album about a BAND playing their SONGS! I'd gladly swap OANS for Lennon's Good Morning Good Morning.
@ricknbacker5626 Жыл бұрын
@@tracyyork1428 As you may know Tracy, after the breakup, Martin did admit to not giving George songs the same level of attention he did to Messrs. Lennon and McCartney. A regret he carried with him the rest of his life. As he should've. I could've done without GMGM as well. Best wishes, RNB
@tracyyork1428 Жыл бұрын
@ricknbacker5626 Yes, this exchange about OANS makes me recall a one line quote from Martin about his treatment of Harrison, which I read in Phillip Norman's Shout: "I was rather beastly to George".
@ricknbacker5626 Жыл бұрын
@@bobrush4217 Hi Bob. I was specifically commenting on Georges rational for choosing a non EMI Studio to record It's All Too Much. This was directly related to the fall out from the OANS sessions. The Badfinger debacle was criminal to its core. One of music histories saddest chapters. Formed in Feb 1963, Northern Songs was the publishing company listing Dick James Brian Epstein and Lennon & McCartney as partners who which would divide the spoils. George and Ringo got a pittance in comparison. Sept 1964, saw George set in motion, to what, by December, would become Harrisongs Publishing. George had to wait till late 1967 for his contract with Northern Songs to run out. There by then allowing George complete control over his publishing. After years (in Georges mind) of getting ripped off. OANS was a justified rejoinder. My view is George Martin was out of line in his public dissing of OANS/ That's the Beatles call, not his. Sorry for the ramble. Best wishes, RNB

The background sound is guitar feedback. If the guitar gets too close to the amp, the guitar picks up the sound of the amp and it will keep feeding back sounding like a shriek until the guitar is moved away. Guitarists began using feedback for musical effects in the 60s.

George was definitely coming into his own element by the time Yellow Submarine came out ~ he was exploring Indian music & adding Indian session musicians to their songs ~ combine that with LSD & you have a very unique mixture

Sounds like the Genesis of Yes. Pun intended, but also not. It's amazing the moments that one finds in Beatle songs that echo in extraordinary music that follows. Its no accident that one of the tracks that Jon, Chris, and co. Included in their debut album was a cover of a Beatles song- Every Little Thing. It staggers the mind at their influence. There will never be anyone of their like again.
