paul’s mom died when he was 14, her name was mary and he was heavily affected by it. the beatles were so popular and so paul was drinking, smoking and doing a lot of drugs at this time. during this time of darkness he had a dream that his mother was speaking to him and she said to just “let it be”. he woke up and wrote this fuckin masterpiece.

I don't know about that, it could be referring to the turmoil of the band coming to the end, and the uncertainty of what it will be been out of a band and suddenly jumping into the unknown... something like that, the drug thing seems kinda exaggerated here....

Paul McCartney said that with all the turmoil about the Beatles breaking up, he was having a hard time adjusting to things. He was just having a hard time in his life. He said that his mom (Mary, who passed when he was fourteen) came to him in a dream. She used to always say to him "Let it be Paul, just Let it be!" When he woke up, he went straight to the piano and began writing the music to "Let It Be". It was six years earlier that the same thing happened while he was sleeping. He said he heard a tune in his head. He woke up, went to the piano and found the chords he had heard in the dream. After asking many people (Including the rest of the Beatles) if they'd ever heard it before, he realized that didn't belong to anyone, it must in fact belong to him. He went into the studio to record it after he'd written words to the tune. Paul was the only Beatle playing on it. It was just him with an acoustic guitar. A symphony of strings was added later. The song turned out to be "Yesterday." It's now been covered over 3000 times by other artists.

Paul's a very private person. We may never know what he was struggling with when he wrote this song. We can speculate. He'd had a major disruption to his life. He and his fiancee had broken off their engagement, but within months he was engaged to someone else. The Beatles had started a new company and independent label, but it was bleeding money and Paul was under a lot stress from that as a result. The Apple Scruffs (the girls who camped outside his house 24/7) had betrayed his trust by breaking into his house and stealing his family photographs. He and John were starting to drift apart creatively and personally. And that's what we know about. There could be much more. It was all too much.

This song is probably my favorite or one of my favorites by Paul McCartney. It’s such a beautiful song. When I was a kid, being Catholic, I always thought he was talking about Jesus’ mother, Mary. So I still hold it close to my heart as a Catholic. But Paul was upset about the Beatles kind of everyone going their own ways, splitting up. He had a dream that his mom came to him in a vision and told him to “Let it be”. So he wrote this song. It’s such a beautiful song ❤️

I got to see the Beatles live 4 times. IN 1964, twice in 1965 and in 1966. Too many screaming girls. Been a fan since 1963. Took my husband and daughter to see Paul McCartney in 2010 I cried. My daughter was 12 the same age I was when i first saw them. She grew up listening to the Beatles too. Their music will be listened to forever.

It's really an uplifting song, not sad. Paul is an upbeat guy. He's singing about finding strength. Paul was also the one who seemed to love being a Beatle more than the others. You could see in the movie that he was the only one really emotionally invested. So I think the theme and lyrics came to him in a large part because of the obvious direction the band was going in. This video you watched is a rehearsal, or maybe it's called a take, from that movie or at least from the original footage.

Your watching one take of several takes, for Paul's closeups during the song. The other Beatles and Yoko were there singing and playing, along with Billy Preston on organ. You just cannot see them in this cut. George Harrison still monkeying around trying to create an appropriate solo. John on bass, Ringo on drums of course. This was footage from the original "Let It Be" movie that has now become a new documentary called "Get Back', after the name of one of their other songs at that time. Filmed in January 1969...

Someone must be chopping onions at your place... This wasn't the final take, just an out-take, with a few alterations to the lyrics. Still, pretty good. You have to be a bit careful with Beatles stuff on YT. Some of what's labelled Beatles is even covers, or imitations, really, by other bands, but not acknowledged as such. Maybe check the comments below a video you're thinking of using on your channel, to see if people are saying it's a fake or out-take or the real thing, etc. Paul McCartney wrote this when he was going through a particularly dark time with (I think) issues with the rest of the band which had been starting to fall apart since the untimely death of their manager, Brian Epstein, who had taken care of all the practical and business aspects of the band's career up until then. One night during this difficult time, Paul had a dream in which his mother, who had died while he was still in his early teens, came to him, and counselled him, saying 'Let it be, son, let it be'. When he woke up, he knew everything would be OK, he just had to let go of trying to control events and 'let it be'. So, being Paul McCartney and a musical genius, he wrote a beautiful song about it.

Paul's reference to mother Mary is Paul's mother telling him to let it be or let it go. Things will work out she's telling her son when he was down. It has nothing to do with devine reference. It's Paul's real mother, Mary, telling him things are going to be okay. Some people that don't know anything about the Beatles think that it's Mary mother of Jesus but it's not. It was inspired by a dream of his mother, but a religious interpretation is just as valid and not "erroneous thinking". A truly great song like this one has a life of its own beyond its creator's. This is something that Paul himself understands and celebrates. He wants his songs to mean different things to different people. He believes in universal appeal.

@@Kieop Well, he's changed his story then. I'm not here to argue biblical context. All I know is Paul's mother's name is Mary not to be confused with Jesus' birth mother. People will read into songs what they want to. All I know is Paul's mother used to tell him to.. Let it Be or similar in Real Life. No hocus pocus. A lot of songs come from dreams. That's where Yesterday came from. I have dreams of songs and one time I woke up humming one and tapping my foot. It wasn't divinely inspired. Neither are nightmares. My point is not divine intervention. Look it up. Sure, from a dream and people that heard the song thought is was biblical but clearly was not. Paul doesn't ever acknowledge that was the case. I mean, who should know better? Paul maybe? The one who wrote it?

Paul himself became aware that some people might take it as referring to the Virgin Mary, and he has said in several interviews that it was alright with him, if someone wanted to interpret it that way. He had NO problem with it, especially since their would be many people hearing the song who would have no knowledge of his family history.

I don't know how many Beatles songs you've reacted to, but it seems like, from your reaction, that you're just beginning. I've seen two of your Beatles videos. You've got about 40 more songs to react to. I'll subscribe if you keep doing Beatles. I love that you love them too. You just wait. You'll be blown away!

only 40 songs?? It's over 200 songs, 13 albums has MORE than 40 songs total, not to mention the singles that were never on albums until they came out with "PAST MASTERS VOL. 1 and VOL 2 which contained all the singles that were never on albums. PLUS they wrote a LOT of songs that were given to other British Invasion groups and singers...those were released on an album (also on CD) called "THE SONGS LENNON AND McCARTNEY GAVE AWAY." It's a great album, I bought it on vinyl when it came out in 1979, and just bought it again on CD (still available ). The songs on the album are the original recordings of the bands /singers, that the Beatles gave those songs to.

Let is be on piano is actually one of the easiest songs to learn to play. All the Beatles could barely play the piano, in basic C. (skipping all the black keys), and they were intermediate on guitars. Their forte was songwriting. The most talented musician in the group was Ringo. He was better on drums than the others were on anything.

That switch over to "Brother Malcolm" was cringey.

The song's referring to the death of the original Paul McCartney in 1966. The guy who this singer replaced. "Let it be" played backwards says "He is dead". He is dead, let it be.
