The red Apple labels were because the album was distributed by United Artists and not Capitol. Capitol acquired the rights to the album when they bought UA Records in the late 70s. As far as Ringo commentary goes, remember when they were suggesting people to be in the crowd for the Sgt. Pepper cover shoot Ringo said, "Whatever the other fellows want is fine by me". And his opinion on the box sets is he likes the remix/remaster because he says "You can finally hear the drums" but he said the bonus/extra stuff wasn't important because if it was good enough they would have put it on the album when it was initially released.

I'm pretty sure the US Red Apple labels were due to distribution conflicts between Capitol and United Records (due to the album technically being a soundtrack to a film)

I like that both the original mixes by Glyn Johns and Phil Spector's original mix are together as more of a complete Get Back/Let It Be listening experience. There is a great, soulful interplay between the Beatles & Billy Preston on the Glyn Johns mix that's largely mixed out of the later Spector mix. Still, Spector's work on songs that needed more production build up such as "Across The Universe" & "I Me Mine" were the way to go but maybe too excessive on "The Long And Winding Road"!

Yes, Naked is pretty damn good except when it comes to the song of Let It Be. There seems to be a majority of the first guitar solo overdub versions everywhere. I know they used that for the single, but the best part of Let It Be was George's scorching guitar solo and guitar fills throughout the song using the 2nd overdub. Ringo's tom fills are also predominant. The 2009 remaster did a great job of keeping those. In the new versions, they are softened up and lowered in the mix. Let It Be... Naked is no exception to getting rid of George. I know Naked is Paul's perception of the Let It Be album, but part of me feels that Sir Paul had a hand in the new remixes and they want to please him. The same thing happened on the Naked version of I Me Mine. They used a different take that was lacking energy and not George fill heavy. I always wondered how all of these remixes would sound if George & John were still alive. Giles' remix modus operandi is to lower all guitars, increase all vocal levels, and be sure to increase Paul's vocals & bass the most. Not complaining about the increased bass or Ringo's drums finally coming through, but come on! Yes....I am a bit of a purist but I have been listening to The Beatles since 1967. (Actually, I don't think George & John would care since it is Paul who cares most about his legacy and Ringo just can't remember any of it...hence the lack of a forward from Ringo)

@@rocnred I have to disagree with you about the Let It Be solo. In my opinion, part of what makes the more "scorching" guitar solo work so well is all of Phil Spector's overdubs. Spector's overdubbing raises up the volume & intensity of the song a notch, which the solo used on the album is able to perfectly match. But if you strip away all those overdubs, like the Naked version does, the song becomes a bit calmer, and that same solo becomes a bit out of place. Not in a way that's jarring, though. It would just become this odd hot-spot of intensity that rises & falls off in the middle of the song. To me at least, it makes sense to then go with a less scorching solo for the Naked version, so that the tone of the song can be more even & consistent. (The single version of Let It Be does the same, except with an arguably less interesting solo than the Naked version.) Admittedly though, it's all largely a matter of personal taste. Regarding I Me Mine, though, I have no clue what you mean. The Spector & Naked versions both use the exact same take. Were you thinking of the Glyn Johns mix? Cause that version definitely has less of George's guitar.

I'll never forget buying a White album that was put out on white vinyl, while they were doing the picture discs also. I had my heart set on a white white album w/ white apples, similar to 'IMAGINE'. I was pissed when I got it home and saw brown 'CAPITOL' labels.

Since the original album pales by a longshot in comparison to all the other re-releases (Pepper, White, Abbey, Plastic Ono Band and All Things Must Pass), and without a full rooftop concert, this one was digital under $40 on Amazon and keep moving. Especially in juxtaposition with the Stones release of the Tattoo You box with a full concert, it just didn't move me to even spend $130 or whatever it was on discount. Maybe the Peter Jackson doc will change my mind. A side note, I was really hoping to hear Child of Nature, Maybe Baby, Crying Waiting Hoping, and also the blues version of The Long and Winding Road (River Rhine) that all have been on bootlegs. None of the above here. The version of Something that we all have on bootlegs is 9 minutes, but way shorter here. I was a bit shocked actually. Will say one thing here looks great, the original Get Back album cover.

I loved getting the Get Back album, finally, as part of this set. I have the original UK pressing of Let It Be (complete with box and book), but this new mix is great, as are the extra albums and book. Like you say, good to have all the cd contents on vinyl this time, although this is to the detriment of the CD box, with CDs only 32-43 minutes long when there is so much extra material that could have been included.

I think I still have a bootleg of the Get Back jams on cassette; I got it in 1984. It was titled "The Black Album" (not to be confused with Metallic'a self titled release in 1991, obviously)

The claim on the outer sticker (and I assume in the book) that the Glyn Johns session is the 1969 mix is a bit misleading. From discussions in the Steve Hoffman online music forum, it appears that in the EU and US SDE sets, a combination of 1969 and 1970 mixes are used for the final product. However, the Japan SHM SDE set has only the 1969 mix.

I found that, overall, the tracks had some more clarity and punch. But where the new mix really shines are any of the tracks that had Phil Spector's overdubs, especially Across the Universe and The Long and Winding Road. Gile's new mix allows those overdubs to sit nicely with The Beatles performances rather than drown them out, like the original mix. My only complaint about the set (which I got on both CD and vinyl) is that 20 to 30 minutes more of interesting material from the sessions to make a full third disc/record full of material rather than an EP. Heck, they could have included a new stereo mix of You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) since it was a B-Side to the Let It Be single. But the material that's included is a great overview of the sessions and the packaging is wonderful.

I love this channel. One of my favourites! (all your video's are amazing) Another great video Eric. Quick question for you. I'm 54 and stated to recently collecting vinyl. I do not have a turntable yet. As a collector, is it okay to leave the single and gatefold albums in the original "shrink" with hype stickers etc. (to keep its value) or should I remove the shrink to prevent warpage over time? Your opinion would be appreciated. (also would you cut the side to release pressure or just leave it perfectly sealed? What do I do?

I got the deluxe vinyl set. And listening back to back with one of my original (PD Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Starr) pressings and my verdict is…I still love the original. The new remix was interesting in places and I do love it as well. What I noticed was that besides a little surface noise the original's guitar was a little more present, especially in "Dig A Pony". The vocals are more up front and a little clearer on the remix. Bought mine thru Amazon for, I think, $132. I’ll look to getting the CD version later.

Hi, I've been collecting since mid 70s and I've collected more then enough rehearsals and jams plus both Glyn John's mixes on Vigatone cds, I don't see a reason to buy the Deluxe package so I settled on the 2 disc set and very happy with it . I only wish that they would put out the blu ray disc separately so I can hear the 5.1 mix.

Vinyl Rewind....I purchased both the super deluxe box set cd / blu ray & the vinyl super deluxe box set...as for the reason the 1970 US Let it Be vinyl albums were released with a red Apple and the United Artist label was due to contractual business here in the States that the Beatles had consented signing on for 4 films. The first 3 were Hrad Days Night, Help, and Yellow Submarine. Hoping that clears things up.

Greetings Eric ✌ Nice presentation of the album set of Let it Be, I also got the deluxe box set last weekend,-my issue with this set is obvious-No roof top concert WTF?!?! and Im crossing my fingers that there will be a soundtrack release with the Peter Jackson film of the roof top performance.I also find the E.P. underwhelming, -it would have been ALOT better with a full disc of more unreleased gems like Paul's Piano Tune (the intro to the Let it Be film) Two of Us (the fast version as performed in the movie) Across the Universe (also in the movie with Paul singing along with John) Besame Mucho, Suzy Parker, Woke Up this morning (Wake up in the morning) Take This Hammer/Black Dog, medley, Lost My Little Girl, Watching Rainbows, Palace of the Birds, All Things Must Pass (the Beatles Version instead of the sub par version on this box set) -Lets hope that "if" theres a Peter Jackson soundtrack it will contain some more rarities from the Let it Be sessions.

I feel like this album was a missed opportunity, considering how many songs they recorded in these sessions. This album is just different mixes of the songs from the original album. I would've liked to hear other songs, like Watching Rainbows.

The red/green apple label was because the first few pressings of Let It Be in the US were distributed by United Artists Records, the label that releases the band's film soundtracks which made the label a red apple rather than a green apple since it's not an actual Apple Corp. product. Curiously, my Japanese pressing of Let It Be from 1974 has a red apple on the back, but a green apple on the labels.

Price point was an issue for me as well. The Beatles Store guaranteed lowest price if pre-ordered. I pre-ordered months in advance and was hit for $227.10 US. The day of release, Amazon and other online stores listed $137 US.

Of the four Paul is the only one who is a true beatlesfan, I'm sure Ringo doesn't care except for the money. If John and George lived George would probably do it for the money like he did in beatles anthology, I'm not sure about John as he was ambivalent about the beatles' legacy at times.

The 'Let It Be' single (with the great 'YKMNLUTN' b-side) was one of my first ever singles when I was a kid, but even though I have the vinyl album (from the mid 70s), '...Naked' on CD, and bought the 'Pepper'/'White'/'Abbey' super deluxes without hesitation, I don't feel any urge to even bother with the basic of this - the Glynn Johns disc (that I have as a bootleg) is probably the most appealing. A BluRay film, and any rooftop audio, is far more appealing (I still have a copy of the original film somewhere, and a couple of rooftop bootlegs) and I suspect I'll spend my money on those.

I gladly paid the $200 for the vinyl box set at my local record store. Support your record stores (especially the cool ones) and leave Amazon behind. I’ve only listened to the original remastered LP, which was noticeably different to my ears for some tracks. I’m really looking forward to hearing the John’s’ mix though. Would love a rooftop LP as well.

Without the inclusion of some if not all of the rooftop gig makes this set lacking for me. I bought it nonetheless but feel the rooftop gig should be on it. Chances are Disney has a monopoly on the film which means we must wait until it’s release on ‘ Get Back’

"ive got a feeling" "one after 909" and "Dig a pony" from the concert are already the tracks featured in the original album. "dont let me down" from the concert was included in this box set. If they released the concert as a record many of the tracks would have been repeated so I guess that is why they didnt do it. There is still "Get back" from the concert which wasnt included in this boxset but was released on the anthology 3. Of course there is a few outtakes as well which feature cockups and mixing interference which i guess is why they havent been officially released. I have a bootleg of the whole concert and it wouldnt make a great official release.

I heard Giles Martin say on a podcast, that he felt the full rooftop performance works much better with the visuals attached. A lot of the songs repeat, and there are mistakes here and there. Plus, the guitar amps get plugged out temporarily, because of the police presence.
