I live for a remix of "Beatles for Sale" which is not the "weak" LP the newbies insist, and on those grounds ignore it. Also "Rubber Soul," which has more emotional depth than "Revolver". The only question is whether the pre-bounced elements for those LPs were preserved, or instead wiped or recorded over. I finally bit the bullet and ordered the three prior "Super Deluxe" releases, and received them on the 13th. I just received, on the 15th, the "Super Deluxe" "Let it Be".

@@XSETDOM13-i2t It depends on whether the bounced-down elements were preserved. With "Please Please Me" "The Beatles" were not yet more than just another band. But there are few to none overdubs on this LP, and surprisingly few on "With The Beatles". It's doubtful those elements were preserved for any LP before "Sgt. Pepper's," which may be why they began with that.

Giles has recently said in an interview that to remix RS and Rev he'll have to rely on source separation technology. That is AI software that has the ability to differentiate between what sounds like drums, or vocals or guitars in a 'stuck down' master mix. I'm guessing there's a lot of stuck down elements even on the multi-track tapes. This is probably why George Martin wasn't able to centre the vocals properly on the 1987 'remix' of RS and what we got was that awful digital reverb-ed 80s hack job which went onto become the 2009 remaster. However he's gone on record for saying he's not prepared to do it yet until the technology gets better. That's why we didn't get 50th Anniversary Editions a few years back. However I have managed, relatively successfully (if I do say so myself) to privately remix RS using Izotope RX8 and Deezer's Spleeter algorithm on the 'pure' sounding 1965 mixes off the mono boxset. It sounds amazing, seriously - but sadly I can't post it anywhere online due to getting in trouble with the copyright police.

Totally agree about the Get Back Glyn Johns mix album. I brought the bootleg vinyl back in the early 90s and was blown away when you realize that this album could have been an official release. I have always loved the album balcony cover setup. I always felt the official Let It Be album cover is a little dull and unimaginative. I became obsessed with the whole Let It Be project when I first became a Beatle Nut. Like everyone one else I had the movie on VHS in the 80s and I cannot wait to see the Peter Jackson film.

Apple 🍏 is scrapping the bottom of the barrel to squeeze out the last dollars they can repackaging Let It Be again. There’s not anything left to exploit. They know loyal Beatle Fans will buy practically anything new even if it’s old material because they have money to throw away. I’m not interested in buying another repackage again. Thanks for showing it all. The only thing I’m really pleased about is they finally released the Peter Sellers Tape or George’s Acoustic Demos of the White Album. That material was only available on bootlegs in poor Audio quality only. Now Giles Martin remastered it and cleaned it up so it sounds incredible. It’s the White Album Unplugged basically. Acoustic versions of the songs! This is an incredible Gem! And I am forever grateful to Giles Martin for doing a great job on this material. Get Back has been finally released in DVD and this is wonderful material thanks to remastering by Peter Jackson. He did a great job on the material that was hidden in the vault for 50 years. He practically brought the Beatles back to life briefly even if it’s like a time warp going back 50 years. It was so joyous and bittersweet to see John and George again when they were alive. It made me emotional. It was so good to see them again! I miss them both! I’ll buy the Get Back DVD and that’s it. And Apple 🍏 didn’t include the Rooftop concert because that will be the last bit of material they have to exploit. It will be released as a separate DVD for sale. Apples 🍏 last piece they can monetize. There’s really nothing left to exploit. It’s very astute for them to hold it back yet. It will probably be released next year. What’s next? The Plastic Ono band live in Toronto DVD featuring the lovely vocal stylings of Joko Ono. Joke O, Oh No! Get it? She practically ruined the whole show with her Screech’s. Not available at a Record Store near you. Only online soon. Enjoy! 😂

Not long after HMV opened its doors, I was in the store and they were actually playing "I've Got a Feeling" over the speakers (Colchester branch). At the moment I'm getting the 6 disc + book. I was a bit concerned when my card didn't read, then I realised I had put it in the wrong way without the chip. No doubt due my excitement and general ineptitude. How lucky we are to be able to make new Beatles discoveries and have a greater clarity of sound with these releases. Soon we will see what none of us have ever seen: the band working up songs in the studio, warts and all, in incredible sound and restored pictures.

Listened to Glyn John’s version of the album today for the first time and now Lennon’s comments make sense - it was a bunch of poorly recorded songs at that point! I think Let It Be Naked still reigns supreme for me and Across the Universe Wildlife version is still unbeaten due to the great harmonies on the chorus. Great releas though, great to have all the outtakes

cbond1c just my opinion but for the most part I like it more - I think the single versions of Get Back, Let It Be and Don’t Let Me Down are the best versions and I like the Past Masters Across The Universe best. The thing about this album is you get to play producer with all of the versions now available - create your own! :)

A word of “warning” to anyone ripping the CD’s to their computer. The artwork that will appear on your device will NOT be that of Let it be, instead it’s the artwork from “The Beatles 1” compilation release. Also, CD5 (the “ep”) has no artwork, OR any “T.O.C.” (Table of contents). This was the case with the “All things must pass” release too.

I would think that one big reason they wouldn't include the entire rooftop concert in the set is that it probably would not be of great interest to most. We have to keep in mind that it isn't a concert as much as an attempt to get good takes for the film. The rooftop concert is Get Back three times, Don't Let Me Down two times, I've Got a Feeling two times, and one version each of One After 909 and Dig a Pony. I would think most consumers would not particularly be interested, and the people who are, like me, are well-serves by the widely and easily available bootlegs. That said, I would strongly recommend every Beatles fan to track down and listen to sessions in their entirety. It is incredibly rewarding, for the most part.

Hi Andrew, ordered the 5 vinyl set. Had ordered from Amazon however the price has magically dropped from $284 to $222 the day after release. Also the delivery is late, now not due till next week - so cancelled. Your right about the original album mix is not revelatory. As for the ‘Get Back’ album, you really hear the reverb on Paul’s vocals on the song let it be, it’s there on my bootleg copy but much clearer and ambient on this release. I will get the vinyl from a local store as I have had box set damages from previous Amazon delivered items. Happy listening. Cheers Matt

Wanted to clarify the Glynn John's mix was the approved mix by the band in mid 1969. I have owned this since 1980 in glossy UK sleeve style cover, and the sound is great. The 1970 mix he did of the extra songs was to replace a few on the initial mix. The band liked the sound and selection however they thought it would not hold up so the mixes were shelved and that was the finished product. Then Allen Klein suggested to bring in Spector to see what he could do and the rest is history. Curious to compare the cut to my release.

Can’t wait to get home from work to unbox mine! I also got both the CD and LP sets. My only issue with it from what I’ve seen so far is it sits on the shelf backwards! Oh well that’s pretty minor complaint. As for others moaning about the four track EP. I get it why they did this. The first two tracks are the missing tracks from Glyn Johns mixes that wouldn’t have fit anywhere else. And the other two are singles remixes that also wouldn’t have fit well on the other disc. Glad we got them in some way. So no complaints from me.

The daily beatle are reporting that the Glynn Johns mix on the EU Super Deluxe isn’t quite the Glynn Johns mix as it has different takes and various edits....on the EU Super Deluxe, BUT the original mix is on the Japanese SHM release...as they received the correct masters....?

Hi, Got my 5cd/bluray set and 5LP set this morning. Giles Martin did a good job, a very good job. The Glyn Johns mix is really good in sound quality, comparing it to the Yellow Dog bootleg. The only disappointment is the short playing time of cd3. The book is a high standard work. The remix of the originalbum sounds very clean on vinyl. Really good. And ehhh .........The Harrison Estate has to take a look at this box set, because this is the way a super deluxe set should be. Not like the All Things Must Pass super deluxe mini edition. My first records I bought were in 1972 as an 8 year old. Apple single & Apple album: A Hard Days Night & Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. I've had many singles and the albums in mosttly all formats/configurations. Reel to Reel, Cassette, 8-Track, Albums of course, DVD, Half Speed Máster and digital downloads. I don't think I'll buy the albums. I'll listen on Amazon unlimited.

This surprised me as well. I watched a Vinyl unboxing first and when tore open my CD set from Amazon I was really shocked by the quality over the LP. The Matte is just not appealing at all so I sent it back and will be getting the LP. Why would they not keep things consistent? Abbey Road Super Deluxe had the glossy cover. This edition is all matte including the book.

Hi mate just saw on Parlogram Auctions You Tube that in Japan the 2021 Let it Be release containing the Glyn Johns album is the complete 1969 sessions & not like ours containing both 69& 70's tracks. Don't know why Apple does this .Have you heard anything about this?

This is about the 3rd time this album has been done over for all the new generations of digitechs that like to hear everything unmixed these days. All they seem to do with Beatles is bring up bass and drums in mix to where it sounds like George Martin didn't finish,these takes should have been on anthology.I haven't heard Let It Be yet but its probably like the other remixes,sounding not mixed yet.The original is still better and you have Let it Be Naked,if you want to hear Beatles,without the Lawrence Welk orchestra in back

Enjoyed my first couple of listens to the Glyn Johns & Remaster of the Phil Spector versions. I especially listened to Let it Be and The Long and Winding Road and prefer one from each but enjoy all 4 very much. I Will be interested on Sunday to see if others are similar or if I am in a minority or even unique :-) maybe I will have changed my mind by then hopefully lots more listening before then.

I am of course talking about the new GET BACK album, WITH "original" sleeve. They seem to be ONLY in the Super Box Sets (CS & Vinyl). Have The Beatles done anything like this before?

Also Andrew, I may be clutching at straws here. But I think “Revolver” will be next year. I was reading an interview with Giles about how he thought Phil Spector treated the album and differences between George Martin, and he said “ I was listening to [off-cuts from 1966’s] ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and even at that early stage you can hear my Dad saying, ‘Do you want that vibrato or not vibrato, Paul?’”

The physical release of Get Back will be interesting to see how it is treated. The real question is how many years does Disney own the rights to that content? We saw Disney secure the rights to Hamilton so they now own it. Fans have wanted a physical release (especially in 4K) of The Mandalorian but as of right now it's a Disney+ exclusive. We'll just have to wait and see but things are not looking good for physical media under Disney when it comes to their exclusives.

Great unboxing video again Andrew on this wonderful set but I have to disagree with you when you say the new remix of the Phil Spector album isn't revolutionary asto my (and many others!) this is the best by far as especially on the title track with the heavier guitar solo it's mixed back instead of drowning out the full ending & now sounds stunning & Across The Universe just sounds like a new song altogether & awesome (you did praise this i have to say) & every other track has new life in it as the original sounded tired but now in my humble opinion revolutionary!! The Get Back album is absolutely stunning as well..... Thanks

I think, based on interviews with Giles I've read where he explains his approach, that he maybe didn't make a conscious decision to tone things down, but likely made the best mix he felt he was able to make, and it just happened to be less bold than some previous mixes, rather than being planned that way.

so as i recall the original Let it be pressing was a gatefold sleeve. This new one is not. Was the original British not a gatefold presentation, i Know the American was.

Bill Euler For info, it was released in Australia as an ordinary LP/album, not a gate fold. We have two Let It Be albums both are ordinary sleeved. Mine, and my wife had one when we were married. The one I bought did come in a "box," (flimsy cardboard), containing a glossy book which we still have. I remember paying a few dollars extra for the "boxed" version.

On the CD version, if you look at the spine you’ll realise that the sleeve design is actually back to front? Great music, great book but I actually think the production quality of the packaging isn’t what it should be. But really enjoyed disc 2 today.

Eh? Have no idea what this means as the Vinyl/Cd boxes have exactly the same sleeve orientation. They have been made with the sleeve opening on the left as otherwise the back cover of the book would show through the cutouts rather than the front of the book & they would have either had to duplicate the photos on front/back or use the alternate shots on the front of the book instead of the back

@@nathanthomas5133 The spine means that the front art should be on the side with the opening on the right. The book is blank/white on the back cover and could easily have had a duplicate design on the back. The outer sleeve IS back to front.

Hi, in terms of height and depth it's the same as the White Album and Abbey Road box sets. It's just thicker due to more contents. (Maybe double the thickness of the Abbey Road box?)

For height, the Pepper box is 33cm tall, Let It Be CD box is 31 cm. The Let It Be box has a depth of approx 25.5cm

Have you gotten super-nerdy yet Andrew and compared this new mix with the a) the original mixes and b) the 2003 Naked mixes? (I have!) They've had to add a LOT of additional processing on John's Across The Universe to bring it up to full spectrum quality and not sounding like a demo anymore.

I seem to remember reading somewhere a guy named Sam Okell remixed this with Giles. Am I mistaken ? If Sam is a major figure in these remixes could it be possible that he may end up remixing some of the other as yet to be remixed albums without Giles ? Did he perhaps do the 5.1 mix on the Blu-Ray ?

Yes Sam Okell works with Giles on these releases. It seems like The Beatles camp really like having Giles involved also for his involvement in interviews and promoting the releases, of course due to his Father. I guess Paul and Ringo love having Giles taking on the bulk of the media interviews as one of the faces of the release!
