Your nuts... Gays and women likes Paul better bc of his looks... He's obviously very good but no john and it's not CLOSE.. And no George... And this is coming from someone who likes Paul. To me he and Yoko broke up the Beatles for the main part.. He's still jealous of John.. On his interview on johns 80th and many others he acts like John wasn't the leader and the Beatles. He re writes history constantly and things have to b about him... He bullied George and didn't show up 4 the r & r hof that was putrid and again he's obviously good and I like him. His lyrics couldn't hold a candle to Georges and no where near johns.. Both of their solo careers Altho shorter were way better than Paul's and again I like Paul. But I'm a man and don't judge men on their looks.

I have always found that version to be among the least listenable Beatle/Harrison songs, especially as compared to the final product. Glad you can enjoy it. Lucky you! Another one that I don't care for in demo form, but love in its finished form, is "Not Guilty." Despite having taken far less time to conceive and complete, the previous/opening track on the _George Harrison_ album, "Love Comes To Everyone," is one of my all-time favorites from George.

I can't wait to hear your take on the early takes from the studio. When you get to Helter Skelter first version Take 2, compare it to the Anthology 3 version of Helter Skelter. At first, I couldn't place where I had heard it before, but this version just feels like a complete 12-minute take of the song and it's absolutely beautiful, so bluesey. I love all the Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da tracks on this album and how they show the reggae roots. Take 3 is my favorite at the moment. That Asher demo of Dear Prudence was so beautiful. I had heard the stories of how they came up with the song, but hearing it come from John's mouth was a magical experience. Also 100% worth checking out are the instrument backing tracks... They are amazing, clear, and iconic. It is so wonderful to have a window into the more raw side of the Beatles during this period. I hope we see many more releases like this
@WillyNillyandSilly6 жыл бұрын
Oh, and if you think the Esher demo of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is fast paced and weird, wait until you hear the hendrix-style version that is third version take 27. It is a major difference. And the acoustic version that they have on Spotify is so heart-wrenching with the origin and everything. Even the mic check around 40 seconds in feels like an organic part of the song. I know you are mostly a vinyl Enthusiast, but I highly recommend listening to the studio sessions on Spotify. I've been blown away by almost every single track. There are jam sessions that just make me happy to feel like I'm sitting in a room and listening to them and provide us... it's good to have such a transgenerational album right now
@WillyNillyandSilly6 жыл бұрын
After looking at a couple of Wikipedia articles, it looks like the Anthology 3 version of Helter Skelter was cut down from this version 1 take to recording. I cannot recommend that song enough it has the most beautiful crescendo. I do kind of wish there were more takes of Revolution 9, but I recognize that that was a Lennon based collage and that we probably don't need to no the artist process but just appreciate the final work.

This is an excellent review. Thumbs up! However, I've had these recordings for a few years on one of the many White Album bootlegs that have been around for a long time and while they piqued my curiosity for a couple of listens, that was all I needed. Its like the deleted scenes on a DVD - nice to see but ultimately they don't stand more than one spin and the finished product is far superior without them. In my opinion.

What you're hearing on hearing on the preliminary versions of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I believe is a time signature difference. The preliminary version that you played is in 3/4 time (waltz time) and the final version is in 4/4 time. Interestingly, if I remember right, George also wrote Baby's In Black, And I'm Feeling Blue (or whatever the title is), in 3/4 (waltz) time. I Me Me Mine is also in waltz time, for part of the tune, then it switches to 4/4 time.

Just goes to show just how talented they were when they leave 'off' songs like Junk and Child of Nature. They could be considered lost Beatles classics. For me Junk could easily have replaced Wild Honey Pie, in terms of general length of the song and quality. But in the end Junk slotted in very nicely on Paul's first solo outing. Both songs have such amazing melody's, just brilliant. I wish I had know about these demo's when I studied at Esher College way back in 1995-96. I was into The Beatles then but knew nothing about these demo's, or indeed that George used to live there. I would have tried to track down the house. But back then the net wasn't a thing and I was a good few years off from owning my first computer. My how things have changed. Great review, keep them coming :).

I think it was more of a "Cleaning up" of the Dynamics, I agree with that. Let's face it, they had to "mix down" quite a few times in the mastering of the album originally. Now with an infinite number of tracks, Giles could really "open up" the final mix, and it seems to "Breathe" so much more.

@flyinpigmusic3314 жыл бұрын
Also, Giles Martin has explained that on Sgt. Pepper, the Beatles were really trying to sound as polished and hi-fi as possible, whereas with the white album, they purposely were trying to make some songs sound a bit lo-fi and raw, so they had to keep that in mind when remixing. If they remixed the song and polished it up too much, it would go against the sound the Beatles originally were going for. Hence, the remixes for this album aren't as radical as the Sgt Pepper 50th anniversary.
