@@kubadzejkob332 so interesting. He may have been. Sometimes the creative flow is so powerful it's as if the artist is just the conduit for something bigger coming through. I read an article by drum session legend Kenny Aronoff in which he said he used to make fun of Ringo's drumming until some magazine asked him to do a breakdown of this song. It blew Kenny's mind that Ringo never repeated a part in this song - every verse is different, as is every chorus. In effect, it's a 3-minute drum solo carrying the rest of the song.

John did have a great voice. It was a very distinctive voice, unique, pleasant. I wish he could have kept it together. But in the end, JOhn had a tough early life it took its toll in his later years. John gave us a lot. I wish he had been able to give us even more. But he did give us a lot, as half of the greatest writing team in history. Of course, Music did not really get going till the 50s and the Beatles "Revolutionized" it. Love the Beatles.

I will never say that they are the best ever, because who am I to say what the future lies ahead (one hopes better things), but I can definitely say that they were without a shadow of a doubt the best artistic act that ever happened in the 20th Century. Nobody can change my mind about that. No other artist or collective could ever top it, no Stanley Kubrick, no Francis Ford Coppola, no James Joyce, no Virginia Woolf, no Gabriel García Márquez, no Vincent Van Gogh, no Shigeru Miyamoto, could ever afford the sheer massiveness of The Beatles. They are for the ages. And don't get me wrong, those are some of the best artists of the 20th Century, but while they might go out out of style (and they do I guarantee you make you raise a smile), The Beatles is something I'm so clearly sure will outlive any other artistic device ever conceived it makes me believe there's a God out there.

I've seriously never understood why everybody always says that. It seems like it's changing. I always think about the figure of the _drummer_ in rock before the Beatles: it basically didn't exist. Ringo created it.

Listen to *ANY* Beatles number and the drumming will be exactly right for it. Ringo's expertise was in judging what the song needed and then playing it without over-elaboration. Ockham's Razor states that what can be done with less is done in vain with more. Personally, I agree.

What is so magical about The Beatles is that while all the pieces of what they did could be found in classical music, blues, jazz, early rock, and elsewhere... there was NO ONE who could have put them all together like that and made such shockingly original music all things considered. The Beatles were - and still are - unbelievable. And as a drummer I can't ever take my eyes off that lovely, minimalist kit of Ringo's with the iconic logo... the ultimate drumset for the ultimate time-keeper...

The first thing that grabs you by the scruff of the neck is Ringo's drumming. The next thing that hits you is Paul's bass.. But that's not all. This song gives and gives. They were born to play together. When John met Paul and they discovered they had very similar musical tastes, they developed a wordless language. As they began to try to write their own songs, each became familiar with the process the other employed, and in their secret language of feel, they were able at times to finish each other's sentences, metaphorically speaking. But songwriting was something they felt obligated to do. Playing live together was more of a compulsion.

Yep, that middle eight section of “Dr. Robert” is like Pink Floyd before Pink Floyd. Also “Across the Universe”, “#9 Dream”, “Julia”, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, “Strawberry Fields”, “Mind Games”, “Tomorrow Never Knows”, etc all have that DREAM hypnotic trance state to them

@ Cranberry Crunch That dream-like quality was a result of three factors: doing a lot of acid, having the greatest producer in the world in George Martin to be able to translate your musical ideas into realities sound-wise, and being a brilliant songwriter to begin with. Which Lennon certainly was.

Actually, the drumming on this song is pretty easy. The impresive thing about Ringo isn't his technical abilities - it's his unique feel and inventiveness behind the kit. He can make a song interesting without over-playing.
