The great thing about them is that even though your 3 favourite songs are A Day In The Life, Tomorrow Never Knows and Strawberry Fields Forever, these songs wouldn't be so iconic without Paul. I think those 3 songs are great examples of the perfect balance between John's exceptional songwriting and Paul's unbelievable musicality. You can see many of John's solo career songs lacking musically and many of Paul's songs missing John's bit as a songwriter.

I really appreciate the song, I just feel more connected to others. I really love Here there and everywhere's lyrics, and your bird can sing's guitar part and Yellow submarine was the first song I listened to as a kid. Also even though the last two songs are Harrisongs; Here Comes The Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps are in my top 3 beatles songs. Harrison has a unique space in my heart.

Hi Larry. Its difficult to review again these Revolver's songs with the new mixes and new sounds found. I also revisited some songs I didnt like with the original vinil and CD like GOOD DAY SUNSHINE, I WANT TO TELL YOU, DOCTOR ROBERT. So, I cant create my new ranking of favorite songs. No way I can rank the songs from Revolver, except that Good Day Sunshine is the one song that feels like a throwaway. It's good, it's short, but it's not all that exceptional. Then I'd place Yellow Submarine at #13, which is a great song, a psychedelic kids song written for adults. I'm not personally a big fan of Here, There and Everywhere, but obviously its' great. Everything else pretty much rank as favorites, as A++ songs, and I can't even say which is my absolute favorite. Also I've never been able to figure out why some Beatles fans don't appreciate Love You To and I Want to Tell You more. They're masterpieces.

I'm not going to list it other than my three favourites are, in this order, Eleanor Rigby, Tomorrow Never Knows and Got to get you Into my Life.Just outside the medals lies Here, There and Everyywheher (And though And Your'e Bird Can Sing was instantly dismissed by John as a "throwaway" it far from it. It's brilliant) But I have to say that this is nt my favourite Beatles album - Pepper is - but this is the one I consider the most consistent and solid, with not a single bad or even weak...ish track. Abbey Road is the best side two by any band ever though, ending with the ultimate triplet in joyous yet bittersweet music. And just in case you thought they were getting too high and mighty there they pulled there rug from under their own feet with Her Majesty. SHEER PER..FEC...TION!!!

I've always loved George's songs, both on this album and elsewhere. Revolver has always been my favorite Beatles album. Like you, I had the North American vinyl release on Capitol at first. Then I actually went to the trouble of acquiring a special import of the British version on Parlophone. The "three extra" songs threw me for years.

Interesting but impossible task - all 14 songs are brilliant and extremely diverse. Here I go: 1. Tomorrow Never Knows: Way ahead of its time. Deeply spiritual. Gives me chills. 2. Here, There and Everywhere: The perfect love song. Brilliant composition. 3. Elenor Rigby: Two minute classical masterpiece about our search for connection and meaning. 4. Got to Get You Into My Life: McCartney said that this is a song about pot. I think it's deeper than that. Listen closely. This is a spiritual song about God. The rhyming scheme in the verses is brilliant. 5. Love You To: The first of three Indian songs the Beatles recorded, the other two being "Within You Without You" (from Sgt. Pepper), and "The Inner Light" ("B" side of Lady Madonna). Beautiful. 6. I'm Only Sleeping: Cosmic, psychedelic song with backwards guitar. 7. For No One: Another McCartney masterpiece. He was only 23 when this was recorded. 8. And Your Bird Can Sing: Spectacular lead guitar. Witty song about materialism. 9. I Want to Tell You: Great opening riff. Harrison later said that he meant to say, "But if I seem to act unkind, it's not me, it's just my mind that is confusing things." So true. 10. She Said She Said: Lennon psychedelic rocker, perfect counterpoint to McCartney melodicism.. 11. Dr. Robert: Great Lennon rocker with hidden references to their physician / drug dealer. "My friend works for the national health" indeed! 12. Good Day Sunshine: Joyful, fun composition, influenced by the Loving Spoonful. 13. Taxman: Blistering guitar solos by McCartney. Only on Revolver would this be #13! 14. Yellow Submarine: Children's song that gave birth to the animated movie.

It is a difficult task. I think in terms based purely on song quality 'I Want To Tell You' would rank bottom. It doesnt strike me as being as immaculately conceived as the others. It's a bit scrappy by comparison. However, as an overall listening experience there is a lot to love about it, and i come back to it more often than many of the others. The guitars, drums, and George's vocals (and the background harmonies) are very addictive. If there is one I feel like skipping it is 'Yellow Submarine'. I really don't mind it at all, but it is the least arresting number. As far as best is concerned, I think it depends on the criteria you wish to use because pretty much every track is enjoyable and works incredibly well, but some are definitely more innovative than others. Obviously 'Eleanor Rigby' and 'Tomorrow Never Knows' are streaks ahead of 'Dr Robert' and 'And Your Bird Can Sing' in that regard, but, for me, those last two are probably just as enjoyable.

The Ted Nugent album that contains "I Want to Tell You" was "State of Shock." It was released in 1979, and the lead singer is Charlie Huhn, who the last I knew was a touring member of Foghat. If you want a new take on "Taxman," check out the version Stevie Ray Vaughan cut for a proposed animated feature film that was never released. It's on the SRV "Best of" collection subtitled "The Real Deal."

I prefer your old ranking in all honesty; Here There and Everywhere and For No One are possibly my favourite Paul McCartney compositions of all time (vying with And I love Her and Golden Slumbers). I also think I'm Only Sleeping is a great song and worthy of a high ranking. Spot on with number 1, though.

New to The Beatles, I appreciate their innumerable contributions, not just to (British) music, but, culture overall. They were ambassadors of the underground, were they ever criticized, for this? I wasn't born then, so I wouldn't know. Some people, unfortunately, enjoy knocking others down. Also, there may always be "gatekeepers". Mark Lewisohn is knowledgeable, but you must slog through the bias. Are there books available, that are unbiased; not hagiographies? Dave Thompson writes extensively on music, he's obviously a fan of the music he writes about. In all the work I read by him, he seems to do a good job at being objective; he pretty much keeps his bias to himself.

To me, some of the lyrics of "Love You To" are borderline depressing, but the music is too dramatic for it to REALLY be depressing. So that's about the only negative thing I'd say about it.
