I have both mono andstereo initial pressings with the peach color incorporated into the colorband and the lighter etching in the powder blue logo area. Both are Scrantons and dont have the timings on first two side two tracks. Both have the royal blue sleeves. They came initially with that sleeve and not the turquoise ones. The Capiphone project contains alot of the incarnation of the Second Album and is Hear Are The Beatles in the project

Call me weird, but I prefer the mono mix as opposed to the stereo. I was hoping that Capitol would release a double album, one featuring the stereo and the other being a mono mix. Both mixes were mixed on March 17, 964. The mono mix were made by Don Henderson and the stereo mix was made with dubbed by EQ and limiter plus echo. The Beatles Box that was released in Mexico (in 1981) has the stereo mix of "Thank You Girl" in stereo without the Echo and reverb.

I agree that the mono mixes of The Beatles output was generally far superior to the stereo mixes. However, The Beatles' Second Album is a rare exception. I love the liberties they took with it, too. They added "stereo simulation" to the mono tracks, and stereo reverb to the whole thing. That plus the album jacket makes the whole thing a kind of in-concert experience without the screaming girls drowning everything out. My second-favorite Beatles album of all time.

Hi. I mean no disrespect, but I feel compelled to ask. Is your only goal to let people know that these particular editions exist (you are not claiming that you have all versions) and that you own them? That's cool I guess, but pretty limited. I thought you might offer an opinion or 2 as to which edition you feel has the best fidelity, maybe the best quality vinyl, etc. Of course, those all American pressings of an album constructed for the American market are known to have a lot of added reverb, and very often the "stereo" designation is actually re-channelled mono. For this and other reasons, after 1986 The Beatles and Apple insisted that only the natural U.K. editions of their albums would be sold worldwide. The final American cd editions, after the boxed sets, were actually sourced from the U.K. master tapes. Therefore the American consumer was only paying for the nostalgia of the track listings and artwork of the U.S. editions.
