The Beatles- The music of Lennon and McCartney (1965 show)

This is a programme The Beatles filmed on October*, 1965. The show was a one-hour-long TV special (a tribute to their music) and featured other singers and bands that sang their songs.
Here you only can see a few parts: The Beatles' performances, some of John and Paul's moments and Peter Sellers' recitation of 'A hard day's night' as Richard III.

From what I know of it,the show was taped on 1 and 2 November 1965,and shown on ITV on either 16 or 17 december 1965. On December 30 1985,and I saw it for the first time,when Channel 4 did a night of 60s TV shows,and this was the opener.

gran rafaela Should be "innocent" in quotation marks - I mean, crawling out of an Amsterdam brothel in the morning and smoking pot in Buckingham Palace is not really... etc. And even the more public things were perceived sometimes as quite tough stuff, even as "decline of the west" (didn't last long, the 60s and people's minds changed quickly. Must have been around 1,5 years later that Jimi Hendrix licked his guitar in the public the 1st time. And, yes, of course, the Stones and their usual image etc.)

In addition to Sellers-as-Olivier doing "A Hard Day's Night," he made an audio imitating Lennon while reciting "the winter of our discontent" from "Richard III." I don't believe he made a video of it, though.

Great to see the relationship between Lennon and McCartney - and their attempt at acting and poking fun at themselves, particularly McCartney's supposed lack of awareness of what languages are being sung. Everyone knows he had and has an ear for languages.

Thanks for the information! :D I wrote the description ages ago, but I'm possitive I only typed what I'd heard/read from the Beatles themselves (Anthology). Not doubting that the dates you give are more accurate, cause they most probably are. It's practically expected that they'd mix up the exact dates, with all the stuff they had to do- and in so little time, too.

Very true. Paul McCartney was just as influential in the songwriting relationship between the two. John Lennon could not have accomplished the songs that he did without McCartney and vice versa. To say one was better than the other is like saying you right eye is better than your left, they have to work together to get the full benefit.
