If you ever want to have some fun trivia, what we are calling "country" (traditional 17th 18th century Appalachian folk music played on mandolins, fiddles and acoustic guitars and the likes) is really "country and western" (a jazz fusion coming from Southern California mid 20th century, of which the Telecaster was designed from/for).

Watched this late last night and actually got up early this Sunday morning to get stuck into it. So many phrases that caught my ear as classics that I've always wanted to learn. I've been looking at a lot of country and Rockabilly stuff lately and it's really changing my approach to soloing. It's really amped up my enthusiasm for playing and I bought my first guitar in 1978.

If you study the song "The Song Remains The Same" in Led Zeppelin's live album (by the same name), Jimmy Page uses that technique all over the place. Go to 3:08 in the song to hear it. He does it super fast with hybrid picking. Same concept.

What I noticed right at the start, you have great finger spread. Not everyone has this ability,some still want to play guitar. Many of these "somebodies" are older players with hands damaged by a life of working with their hands (perish the thought.) Perhaps a bit of a lesson for people without such great finger spread. Instructors always say something like "there is a way around that" (usually it means using some 'diminished" chord in place of the one written in the song.) How about some tips for those without such great hands and fingers?

But you really have to enjoy the process, and even though you always want to keep learning it's good to realise that how you play right now is unique and good enough.

Adrian, I really enjoy the aplomb you display in your lessons simple and direct, not a superfluous word or a noodle. The right guitar and the right amp. This is a sweet little tune and I'm going to learn it right after I get to work on 'Needle of Death". I saw Bert when he came to Seattle in around '87, nice guy who plays great, we learned "Running From Home" and have been singing it around here for 45 years. Just really excellent performance.
