In 1995 after a screening of Ed Wood in central London I left the cinema and walked into blinding arc lights. Looking up I saw the marquee now read "FRENCH KISS featuring THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH". "Oh, wow, they're shooting a video!" I can't remember when I first heard their version of Dream a Little Dream but I immediately fell in love with it. (It wasn't a hit. I got it as a b-side of the 'Don't Marry Her single.) I must confess it was many, many years before I realised how close a copy of the Mama Cass version it is.
