This video is going to walk you through first, the old castle ruins and the samurai village, then on to the Japanese garden ruins, then we can see some of what the newly built Asakura Family Museum is like, and finally I have a photography gallery at the end of the video.
If you’re new to the channel, welcome to Shizen Style. I’m Josh and I usually get into topics surrounding Japanese aesthetics in Japanese gardens, home interior, music, nature etc.
Today, I won’t give you the detailed historical version but it’s important to know that the Asakura clan ruled over the Hokuriku area between 1471 and 1573. This area was chosen because it is nestled perfectly in a valley between mountains just outside of Fukui City.
At its peak, the city was home to more than 10,000 people and was one of the wealthiest of the country in terms of society and culture. It had all of the social ranks from samurai warriors and temple monks to craftsmen and merchants.
They’ve uncovered about fifteen Japanese gardens within the village, with four major gardens being designated as official Places of Scenic Beauty. It’s proof of Ichijodani’s importance and of the refined taste that the people had there. The boulders have stood the test of time the best in the gardens, leaving a lot of room for imagination regarding what other complimentary shrubs and trees would have been planted.

Cheers! Thanks for letting me know. I'm glad you liked the vibe of the video and the pace. I know youtube wants it to be full of drama and action to keep everyone's attention, but that just doesn't flow well with the theme. Thanks again.
