Anime openings, I love listening to them, I love mumbling along to the Japanese words I don't understand and then Screaming my soul out to the engrish parts I love debating what is the best anime opening of all time so i decided for my first video on this journey as a small youtuber to make a 15 minute video essay on anime openings..... I've obviously failed lol I put my heart and soul into talking about anime ops for anyones amusement and I got a couple of really cool friends to join in and do some silly dances for comedic effect and to make me feel less embarrassed i hope you like it gonna go make an anime opening playlist now also thank you to lil boat and nakeyjakey for inspiration on the green screen
love you

It's a very American thing or possibly English speaker- thing to dismiss foreign music...because most of the non-English speaking world have no problem listening to English songs...many don't understand it but they don't dismiss it...they may make a translated version of the song or make music in the same style inspired by it.

Yeah i have noticed that i tend to listen and vibe more with music that i don't understand, and even knowing English, i don't even listen to the words really, it's the sound that the singing is doing and the song in general. You can hear how the words sounds good even if you don't understand. I always vibe more to the songs when i'm listening to Japanese/Korean+ other languages than in English or Finnish.

Anime endings are pretty beautiful too. Think Wind from Naruto with Akeboshi. Mehn, those flute and accent over speaking English reminds me of discovering Naruto in highschool and watching it with my siblings when we come home from school. Also pretty much anything from Do As Infinity, as featured on Inu Yasha and others...songs like Fukai Mori and Shinjustu no Uta. Beyond that, while it kinda seems as though distorted guitar is not genrally associated with beautiful sounds, but I think a lot of output by The Pillows from the late 90s to mid-00s, especially a lot of what was curated for the FLCL soundtrack, is alternative rock at its most beautiful, probably exceeding the like of Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins. Beautiful Morning with You, Hybrid Rainbow, Carnival, and Instant Music are just incredibly lush rock tunes.

Loving your content dude, to me the appeal of 80s and 90s anime music is those infectious Melodies and sometimes half English choruses. When you see the visuals that go along with it, it just captures a moment of solitary coolness and it puts you right there in that moment when you listen to a particular track.

About the berserk opening, I've always felt the same way. from the first time I heard its off key guitars back when I had no idea what I was getting into by watching berserk, it always struck a cord with me and made me feel the exact things you described. Despite the engrish and the grasses, I've always thought this opening fit the series and guts as a character perfectly and I've never skipped it once even re-watching it now. When I saw that people actually hate on this OP and how much it gets memed on, I felt kinda dum for how much I love it lol. But it's great to see that someone else sees the same beauty in it that I do. Great video btw, all your content is absolute bangers. It’s not an opening, but the first ending of Inu-Yasha. I remember seeing it on late nights on adult swim when I was in my early elementary years. Something about the mood hit me so powerfully. The 3 main female characters, doing something that they do on a typical day. The backgrounds, the really lovely song playing in the background… the train Kagome is riding… it’s that specific moment that really gets me. I’m a young woman, living out her life figuring it all out, and I ride the train a lot. I like how it feels to be in a train. The fast yet very smooth inertia. I just keep moving forward. It kind of reminds me that I am alive and that I will be ok. The song itself is very catchy but it’s so smooth and just feels like it keeps going.

Man, TOTALLY agree on battlecry as your #1. Samurai Champloo will always be a reminder of a transitioning point in my life. I had just entered high school when I got around to watching it. I was still relatively new to Virginia, as my family moved there from Texas right before I started 8th Grade due to my mom being in the army. In that time, I managed toa small, close group of friends that had similar interests, stuck close together, hung out almost ALL the time, and went on adventures almost every time we met up. The woods behind my house was one of our favorite places to explore because of how deeply lost in the trees we could get despite our entrance into the place being right behind my house. I had known about Champloo for quite a while before that because people online in forums I visited (remember forums?) were always talking about how good that and Cowboy Bebop were, but I finally got spurred into watching it because the first friend I made in Virginia really liked the show! In those days, myself being a cringey lowlife bum anime weeb, I saw a lot of Mugen, Jin, and Fuu in my friends and I, and I always thought to myself "if I were to be trapped in an anime, let it be Samurai Champloo for all the adventures I could have." Lupin the 3rd strikes a VERY similar kind of vibe with me, and that's in part because of the similarities in the format and vibe of the shows (namely Lupin Part 2). I'd say Samurai Champloo, Lupin the 3rd, Yu Yu Hakusho, Black Lagoon, Trigun, and Full Metal Panic might just have my favorite anime openings of all time.

Some of my favorite to listen to tend to be very up beat, with the openings of Noragami, Hunter x Hunter, and Haikyuu coming to mind. But there are also some like the Evangelion opening, the first Tokyo Ghoul: Re opening, and the first Kekkai Sensen opening that, while not sad by any means, hit me in a different way and I love listening to them as well. I also love a show like Cowboy Bebop or Kids on the Slope that has a good background soundtrack and feel that music without lyrics can still be very very powerful. Anyways, keep up the good work my guy.

Air Gear opening is a favorite of mine for the pure nostalgia of being like 10 and finding air gear on some sketchy ass website we had to rely on back then. It's the reason I finished the Manga and even though the Manga wasn't amazing, it was still pretty interesting and the opening automatically played in my head whenever some cool shit happened.

I was so happy with that triumphant entry of Battlecry just at the end. Great video, thanks. Some I remember are Sakura Saku, from Love Hina; basically all openings and endings from Rurouni Kenshin (I specially love the ending with "It's gonna rain"; great visuals, vibes and music); Elfen Lied's opening is gorgeous; I absolutely love the first opening from Sailor Moon.... I remember the music from Aa! Megami-sama's opening vividly, but I don't remember the visuals haha. Well...

It was actually one of the shows that got me into anime and one of the only ones I watched with a friend. Late at night we booted it up on our 3Ds's in my room during a sleepover. And he recommended it to me just because I loved Rollerblades so much. Little did I know I was gonna get to watch an absolutely exhilerating shounen with "fights" that blow my mind even on re-watch.

I know this is a year old video but just found your channel and been binge watching your videos! These are all bangers but nothing and I mean nothing beats the 3rd bleach opening. Been watching anime in one way or another for close to 30 years being 36 now. My husband is 10 years older than me and half Japanese and let me tell you he opened my eyes to some truly epic older anime’s and their openings.

Samurai champloo opening had quiet an impact on me too, the first time I heard it it just kinda freaked me out and made me feel uneasy, I kinda didn’t like the off key tones beats and weird coloured visuals. But as I listen to it more and heard all the instruments and the lyrics it just grew on me, I started to appreciate the visuals more, and it kinda become one of my favourite openings. Another thing is that just as I finished Samurai champloo, I had nujabes tracks on repeat, about a month later I heard that nujabes passed away. This kinda increased the impact of champloo even more. I feel like after dbz and Pokémon, champloo had the most impact on my life. For the last twelve years nujabes tracks always find a way on my playlists especially reflection eternal.

You have absolutely become my favourite channel. Bleach, one piece, Naruto, dragon ball, berserk, sailor moon, jujutsu Kasien, claymore, death note and so so so sooo many banging openings. I truly believe anime is a medium that extends the raw beauty and honesty we can experience in a novel in ways our senses can hardly fathom. How did you find a niche between anime analysis and self help videos? It’s quite brilliant and it’s a great platform to use to really to talk to some of the loneliest people. Thank you dude.
