Anime, its something that has shaped me in a lot of ways with its stories and characters as anime has so many life lessons lol today for the 100+ sub special I wanted to tell a story about how anime taught me how to be "cool" or what "being cool" really means by talking about 3 main shows flcl or Fooley Cooley, Great Teacher Onizuka, and Gurren Lagann these shows played a huge part in my understanding of coolness which meant a lot to my young nerdy elementary school ass lol thank you all so much for the support on this channel never really had hope in something till now... thank you and enjoy
also... god dammit I got copyrighted for the Simon speech so if you don't see the speech that's why lol buy anyway

When people shit on someone for being inspired by a fictional character I always think to myself, I guess all the English majors still out there studying shakespeare and beowulf are just doing it because it's good money. Art is a beautiful thing that can teach us so much about ourselves, society and the world in general. Not every TV show is profound but damn if there aren't some story arcs in anime that are so philosophical people write god damn papers on them. "Life, Death, and the Path to Enlightenment: Buddhist Symbolism in the Manga "Bleach"." is a academic paper from Columbia university that honestly is just one big ass essay that's just a bit more formal than a video essay.

As a 34 year old female, growing up watching cartoons and anime since I can remember, I became an artist and animator because of the love of anime and its amazing characters and stories, it helped me shape into who I am today. I was the weirdo in my elementary school who drew DBZ, Pokemon and Sailor Moon fanart (growing up, much more shows ofc), sang anime song and recorded them on VHS-s, and later even started lifting weights and cosplaying. And I am thankful for it. Anime helped me through some of the most difficult moments in my life. So happy seeing more and more people talking about anime and manga and the deeper message behind them! It's people like you who unabashedly speak, edit and produce on their favorite topics that really spark inspiration in people. That being said your comment about people discounting the stories told in anime really hit hard. like you said actual people put their heart, soul and artistry into anime and I love that by definition anime is now "cool" because now maybe people can feel valid in the lessons they learn from anime.

The foolish but unapologetically genuine character trope is definitely one of my favourites. Iskandar from Fate/Zero would probably be another great example along with Onizuka and Kamina. There's a scene where he steals a book from a library which really embodies his character. Despite being able to teleport he crushes the front door because he's a "conqueror" not a thief. "Being youself" is something pretty easy to do but hella hard to figure out. Found your channel yesterday and I feel most of the stuff I've seen. Keep it up 👍. (P.S. Not this video but, thanks for putting me on the air gear op that shit slaps.)

@@InternetPitstop only advice i can give you for starting fate is choose between Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night: UBW and go from there (or F/GO the mobile game if you're into that). I can relate to this because throughout my middle school days I was never considered cool. I always wanted to be but never was and had always looked up to my older brother ever since elementary, as well as other ppl, to be cool. But once I got to HS I became more accepting of myself. I still struggled at times throughout my HS career but now 4 years out and a college degree down I feel like I’m finally starting to appreciate myself.

The character who inspired me... is u bro 😳 nah but fr, you're fucking awesome. By talking about the things you like in such a passionate, funny, and moving way, you portrayed the theme of this very video; being the coolest version of yourself, and live to the fullest. I think the reason anime means so much to so many people is how inspirational it is, and how it takes cliché messages such as "love yourself", "never give up", "the power of friendship", and through its narrative, makes you realize they really are some of the most important shit you have to know in life. Anime, games, movies, and the characters in them can offer such strong messages and, although I felt like I was the only one who valued such specific things about them (whether it is noticing the role beyond the superficial narrative x character fufills for the overall message of a story, nerdy stuff like the design of a pokemon region, or how nicely that specific mechanic ties into the gameplay) seeing channels like yours and its content makes me realize I'm not alone in the things I find meaningful, and that by being myself, to the fullest, is the only way to make genuine genuine bonds with others, just like I can tell you did by starting this channel and talking about the things you are passionate about. Also great fucking taste in music ayo you dope fashionable man.

I've only come across your channel for a short time, but you videos have resonated with me. i had a sheltered childhood, and watching your videos has let me experience what it was like to grow up with access 2000's media. This video in particular has spoken to me in a way that I haven't ever expected from a youtube video. i haven't found myself yet as a human, but i do have a loving girlfriend and a handful of close friends from high school and university. i find myself still trying to act "cool" when going to classes or walking down the street in my hometown, as though i should care what strangers think about me. i'd like to think it takes me a very short amount of time to get dressed in the morning, but simply picking out clothes that i don't think will look stupid together takes a while, bc of how focused i am on being "cool." anyway, i appreciate you... and your little pitstop... on the corner of the internet.

I remember trying to fit in with everyone in elementary school and how it didn't really work because I took every tease or joke way too seriously. Then I somehow figured out it was better to stand out than fit in while in middle school. It's not about imitating to be cool, it's seeing something cool and admitting that you like it. For example, I started watching anime in college after moving on from afternoon Toonami in elementary school. One of the first things I watched was all of Dragonball. I thought Yamcha's hair was cool, so I grew my hair real long and it's been that way for nearly 10 years and I have no intention of changing that. I think it's cool.

been watching a few of your videos. Simone was my epiphany of a fictional character making me realize how I wanted to live too. Love the content. Keep it up *subs hard til I bust*

Just recently found your channel and it's a little eerie because despite the fact that you're like 10 years younger than me, the characters/shows we learned "coolness' from are the same lol. GTO is my favorite manga and Gurren Lagann is my favorite anime to this day for all of these reasons. I discovered GTO back when I was in like 7th Grade or so when it was still being released monthly, definitely started getting a little more intentionally weird and "Onizuka-like" around that awkward time lol. I feel like I learned how to embrace being a manchild from him big time. I tell people I went to a couple of Beyblade tournaments at Toys 'R Us at the age of 14 (aka already too fkn old to be going to Beyblade tournaments) with pride, and they love to hear it lol. In a world of mostly normal ass people, weird ass people have the best asses yaherrrddd

I think Eureka and Renton from Eureka Seven had a big effect on me. Their relationship was so realistic, it took time to develop and it had a lot of tough moments that they struggled with, but they always figured out a way to overcome those hardships. Idk man they made me realize what a healthy relationship looks like? At least that's how I remember it, haven't seen that anime in forever but still think it's so underrated and it should get more love!

Nothing weird about learning things from fictional characters, or pick up on moral lessons from stories. What do you think a fairy tale is, and why have we told them to kids since forever? Even religion does the same thing, and you can pick up something useful or insightful from religions you don’t even believe in if they have stories with a message that transcends the silly notion of wether you believe the characters are real or not. Same goes for anime.

Probably a bit late but just wanted to add two characters who shaped my life (probably) forever, Hikigaya Hachiman and Thorfinn Karlsefni. Initially when I watched season 1 of Oregairu , I was in probably the hardest time of my life so far, his pessimist view of life felt so right and relatable to me at the time , but then as I grew (with no friends), that feeling/view made me subconsciously realise that even though I kept this view on life nothing would change making me feel empty (aside from enjoying anime and games all alone lmao). But then from left field, Vinland Saga season 2 came out and floored. The journey of this revenge ridden killer of a kid to a peace loving MAN just touched me and made me genuinely want to be a better person to myself and others. It made me truly understand how the MC of Oregairu found himself in season 1 was cringe compared to him in season 3. So yeah, both shows in top 3 of all time. Honourable mentions: -Not so much one character but dear god the whole main cast of A place further than the Universe is just so incredible and made me feel inspired and appreciate how beautiful it is to have something you really want to do and do it. -Gurren lagann's fucking insane depiction and portrayal of believing in yourself throughout the whole show first with Kamina's "believe in the me that believes in you" then "who the hell do you think I AM" and finally Simon's acceptance and transformation into himself will forever cement this show as one of my favourites forever. (GOD I WISH THE ENG DUB OF THE FILMS PLAYED IN MY COUNTRY!!!!) thanks for reading this yappathon to the end if you did .

Bro! Naruto taught me so much about myself and when he talks about how he decided to stop crying and do something about his life. Boi!! I'm telling you that was the first most impactful moment that any anime ever had on me and encouraged me to stop standing still and start walking no matter how tough the road will be. Nearly 30 and still Believin' It with a wife and child. You are a legend my guy. I am loving the content.

You and I are a lot alike! As much as it pains me to think about what I was like when I was younger, you pretty much summed it up in this video. You really put it into words. And you are definitely one of the good ones. Not everyone comes to this realization. I've got about a decade on you LOL, but I still relate.
