I have to say, your channel has helped my depression so much. I used to have my own lil hobby farm. I lost it in a nasty divorce. I have had severe health issues due to my PTSD. I started watching your channel and I caught the bug again! The beginning of the covid I bought two ducks and ordered 25 chickens! Now I am currently looking into getting a loan to get myself a new hobby farm. Someplace I can finish raising my biological child and a child I just took in during the covid. After my divorce I have been floating from going to college to working two jobs to no job at at thanks to the covid situation. I fell into a deep, deep depression! Now I am excited to start my new life as a single mom! Thanks for getting me on track again! God Bless your family! May you continue to bless people with great ideas and your family values!

@@Abuzar-zl2kz they can't let them out in the pasture because the mandarin ducks are an invasive species here in America and there's a chance they would fly away and never come back. They plan to build an aviary eventually so the mandarin ducks and red pheasants can have more room than their current coops. But that's a little further down the road for now.

A cool idea for the emus would be a little pond that would have some plastic covering on the sides and bottom and then put some rocks and dirt on it so the emus wouldn't peck at it.

Yeah, I remember when I was a kid we had ducks at my gpa's place and what he did was buy one of those cheep plastic kid's pools, put it in a ditch in the ground, then line the bottom with a bit of the dirt and filled it with water. Maybe you could do the same for your emus.

Aww, they are amazing! My grandma and grandpa used to have a farm, and this is how it worked. They would hatch at least 60 pheasants, raise them, let them go and then shoot them for money. It sounds awful but those birds would have never existed if it wasnt for that. They did also have 35 laying hens of all breeds to get eggs from, and gained about 13 more every year. Sadly, the council has put an end to their farm (it was until their birds died) and they have now been farm free for 16 years. They missed it so much that they want me to carry it on someday so they got me my first starter hen. Now I'm educated enough, I am going to rent the land (where they used to have their farm) and grow trees with fruit, vegetables and raise more hens. Wish me luck!

@jagur yes you are absolutely right. These many eggs can't be warmed by the mama continuously. Therefore the chicks die at some stage.

I went to high school with a gentleman named Charlie Sproul. He raised exotic ducks and pheasants and other bird's. He and his wife Ruth were so much fun. You two remind me of them. They lived in Blue Diamond, NV

What a an amazing life you two are giving your children! Being raised around animals teaches them so many lessons they can use forever. My kids were raised in the country around plenty of animals and hard work. They are happy, well adjusted, employed adults, both happily married and producing lovely grandies for me to spoil when they come out to Mema's farm for visits!!

For a pool for the emu's why don't you dig a hole and line it with waterproof cement and line it with heavy duty pool plastic for comfort. This way you can make it as large and as shallow as you need; and the emu's would have an easier type getting in and out. Plus theirs no way they could bust it :) And maybe outside of the fence you could plant a tree near the pool. So when it grows up the emu's will have some shade.
