The Becker BK21 Reinhardt Kukri, A Wood Chopping Monster

In this video I review the Becker BK21 Reinhardt Kukri. This thing can chop away like a mofo and is one of my favorite large fixed blade knives.

Thank you, there is a lot of debate where the origin of the design comes from. Some will say Greece, some say Napal, and others says even Iberia

@@hughbennett5342 the Becker bk21 with the kukri shape and longer blade obviously chopped better. However the esee Junglas I feel is overall a much better knife as far as quality, ease of use and ease of maintaining. Sharpening a kukri can be a bear, especially in field while the Junglas is easy. I also found the Junglas easier to use it for more common knife tasks. Overall I’d take the Junglas over the bk21, the chopping power was a bit better but the Junglas does everything else better

How did the edge hold up after chopping the bone

I own one of Hank Reinhardt's first kukri's. Bought it from some magazine about 30 years ago. Is coated with a navy cream color baked on finish. Has the exact handles as is found on the BKT stuff. Its a garden tool, is in good condition considering the ground use I have put it thru. It is sterile with no markings.

Hi, great review. I'm looking forward to having this Becker in addition to my Turok. Until now I've always had a Condor stainless machete for the jobs I have in mind for this Kukri but the handle they put on those are just small enough that when you're really chopping it hurts like hell on your little finger, there just isn't quite enough room. I'm thinking this will be more versatile as well. As someone who does video production I just wanted to suggest that when you edit you bring the volume of your music down so it's in the background, it overpowers your voice and is distracting. Thank again for the review, it's nice to see a knife in action before you buy.

That's a nice kukri. Westerniced i would say,and that is a good thing. It wil do great here in Norway! Hmm maybe i buy it.. but just bought the Ontario kukri,and it is also a great kukri design in my eyes! It is a knife i can do everything with. But i know my self,and i am problably going to buy this to,hehe. Just love knives you know :-)

Just got mine yeasterday. The power, the weight in a hand. I like it. Didn't have an opportunity to test it yet myself. But one thing I didn't like is a grind out of the box. It was DEFINITELY NOT 20 degrees. It was so steep that it is aabout 40-45. Was sitting all evening reprofiling it to about 30 degrees

@@BOOSTEDLASER No, 1095 is a very durable steel that can take a lot of abuse if done right. A few companies that uses good 1095 I'd suggest is Esee, Becker, Tops

It’s good and I still have it. I like the Esee Junglas and Becker BK9 better because they are more of a classic style and are easier to sharpen. However the BK21 still will out chop them, the kukri style is hard to beat

How do you rate this VS other Big choppers? Bark River and such. have a fav?

I have tried several larger chopping knives and still the Becker BK21 chops better than any of them. This is due to the fact the it is a kukri design which has a forward leaning blade and puts more weight towards the end. This however also makes it a recurve, which I personally find tedious and a straight up pain in the ass when having to maintain the edge and resharpen it. I find a more westernized blade design like the Esee Junglas and or the Becker BK9 can not only be easier to maintain, but also can be better at other tasks and have more finesse making them overall more versatile.

Ever try the Vengeful 1 or any bark river choppers? I sharpen my friends BK21 on my worksharp, takes 10 seconds Cuts MUCH better also

I haven’t had a lot of Bark Rivers in all honesty. I’ve only had the bravo 1.25 and the los lobos. Both of which I’ve traded for others. Something about super smooth handles doesn’t appeal to me. I’d like to try some of their choppers though and maybe just Wilson wrap it
