They listed Everly brothers as one of their influences. You can really feel it here. They’re adorable to boot.

@SaeedReacts. Glad you’re still on The Bee Gees bandwagon!!! There is another video of them a little older (1967). To Love Somebody. As others have stated, they can’t read music but they said the songs are in their heads that they just “pluck out of the air”! It’s a gift!!! They wrote all their songs, taught themselves to play multiple instruments, learn how to arrange (strings, horns, etc.), write for other artists, produce themselves and others, all by not knowing how to read or write a lick of music. They did learn cords. There’s a video where they show us how they write songs (THE MAKING OF JUST IN CASE), and they are scatting different cords, so they know the difference from major, minor, etc., cords. Many times they sung the orchestra or brass parts they wanted in their music and someone else would write the notes down. They were music geniuses!

The Bee Gees are truly amazing in their musicality. It’s in their souls. Writing songs, playing instruments, musical arrangements and then harmonising. British born and Australian raised, they appeared on Australian tv shows and it’s wonderful to be able to see this still. Their first hit was Spicks & Specks where it hit No 1 in Australia, but they’d flown off to Britain by then to explore their options and chances. For a long time, they were kept on the outer by the music industry but the weight of popularity, their extensive body of work and the disco era saw them climb to be wealthy, famous, sought-after performers, and attracted many other artists with their song-writing prowess. Not always known, but they also have a sister who is still living in Australia. She was never involved in their music. Their younger brother, Andy, went out on his own but tragically succumbed to the pressures of success.

When I grew up in the fifties, my dad had myself and my two older sisters sing in harmony together. He was in the church choir and we liked singing even though we were shy. Sometimes he would have us sing for relatives who came over or for sone of his plumbing and heating customers. There was a tv show called Lawrence Welk who had an orchestra and singers in the show. There were three sisters who sang in harmony on the show. They were The Lennon Sisters. That’s where he got the idea. They were very popular all over the uSA.

Written by Barry Gibb when he was about 13 years old. This is the first song they performed on tv in 1960, Barry was 13 or 14, the twins would have been 10 or 11. Their baby brother Andy would have been around 2 at this time.

So funny to see them so well-behaved, quiet and shy on stage back then. Before they were criminals, Barry had a sentence for stealing a minicar, Robin loved to set fires (e.g. traffic signs...) and the police advised their parents to leave the country. Barry once said that music and the desire to be famous saved them from ending up as criminals!

They were from a very poor family and were likely left to their own devices for much of the time. Seems like there was a lot of love in the Gibb family.... for music and for each other.

They were wonderful. And they never learned to read music When they wrote songs someone else in the band had to manuscript them. Yet they all, even Robin, played instruments by ear.

Bee Gees stands for "brothers Gibb"

It actually started as the initials BG, which stood for Barry & Barbara Gibb, plus 2 other guys who helped discover them in Australia, who had the same initials, BG. Eventually they went with the sound of those 2 letters spelled out!

@@SaeedReacts. Interesting : I looked it up ... " The Transatlantic accent, also known as the Mid-Atlantic accent, is a dialect that blends aspects of American and British English. It's thought to have originated in the early 1900s when AUSTRALIAN phonetician William Tilly coined the term "World English" to describe his speech standard. " ... . Tilly's goal was to create a dialect that was understood by both Americans and the British, and that didn't have a distinctive regional dialect. The accent was taught in finishing schools for wealthy American families, as well as in American schools of acting. It fell out of favor / people stopped using it in the 60's and 70's " ...
