I’m in my 40’s , but I still remember getting hit by my mother and telling her “Thank you for teaching me tbat I DONT EVER WANT TO BE LIKE YOU!” She hated me for not being petty enough or thin, or smart or talented. Maybe she just hated me. Thank you to this brave young woman for sharing her pain and being vulnerable with us. Her words hit hard.

My late mom was not rich. A single mom who ran out of an abusive relationship to save us and her. She wasn't rich but she made the most of it. Always there for each and everyone in the family. There are no words for this powerful emotional poem.

Reading a poem in perfect words on paper, without the intake of breath, the pause for observation.. it is good. It can be moving. But nothing reaches into my soul, grabs all of my attention, and demands to be seen like hearing the words in emotions (not with, in).. in a full-body vibration that moves me to another dimension where I can almost taste the memory described. Damn. Thank you for sharing.

I searched for this video after seeing the beginning on Facebook. From one person with disabilities to another, you are powerful. Your words may be stuttered and take longer to express but they are no less important. Keep chasing your ambition and speaking your reality. I think about the trauma that poetry has helped me survive and the guilt I feel for abandoning it now that I’m doing well because I’m just “so busy”. Then I watch this and feel silly because clearly there’s always time for write therapy.
