This review is so comforting. I'm not the only person who felt this way. My favourite thing about the movie is that Jason Statham has a rule about never using a gun to kill anyone. It is never explained why but this is treated like a build up to a reveal about his past. This is never explained. Then in the third act he indiscriminately shoots everyone. This is also never explained.

After watching the review, I feel like Dan said everything you needed to know in the first minute. This does sound like one of those ridiculous 80's or 90's action films that had just the most ridiculous premises that existed only to serve up action set pieces. And honestly, being a 90's kid, I'm here for it.

Exactly, I enjoy statham movies like this because you know the sort of film it will be. It’s not going to win Oscar’s, it won’t be all PC, there will be the typical typecast villains BUT it will be enjoyable. As my dad used to say about some of the classic westerns rooting tooting shooting movies.

I agree with the first part, but not with the second - Ayer has a mixed record but he did some really good movies - End of Watch, Fury, Harsh Times, also he wrote the screenplay for Training Day. I sincerely, didn't expect him doing a typical Jason Statham action movie, but here we are - I gtuess after the Suicide Squad and the Ayer cut interview he's not getting great screenplays.

I went to see it tonight because Showcase cinemas had a deal where I could watch it for a fiver. I thought it was hilarious for much of the stuff Dan picks up on. I overhead one woman haughtily declare afterwards “well I felt that was rather far fetched” which could be the dictionary definition of litotes. I particularly loved how all the fights were shot close in to avoid the otherwise obvious fact there were dozens of people not being attacked who could pop him with a head shot at any moment. Not that it matters in the least I would just make a slight adjustment, Jeremy Irons isn’t playing the father, just an ex CIA head who Hutcherson’s mother had a thing with and who leads the family’s security team.

I hadn't heard of this, but my wife and I went to see it on your recommendation. We both had a blast, so thank you! This was such a wild ride, especially since the marketing managed to hide the big twist. (Cool character too, it was hard to guess the arc there.) I am still in awe at the absolute sincerity and gravitas that they delivered here. It's one thing to use "to Bee or not to Bee" with a straight face, but setting it at a key confrontation moment was just completely nuts. What a movie.

The truth was probably that the plumbers were there actually fixing a leak, and the shoot was so far behind schedule and over budget they couldn't afford to wait for them to finish.

After seeing this MARVELOUS review, my husband and I decided we had to experience this movie in the theatre. It was just as good/bad as you said -- and even better because we saw it in a theatre.

Side note: The cybercrime weirdness was in fact explained as a plot point. The method used by the villain was new and unique within the world of the story itself. It was an interesting idea, too.
