This review is so comforting. I'm not the only person who felt this way. My favourite thing about the movie is that Jason Statham has a rule about never using a gun to kill anyone. It is never explained why but this is treated like a build up to a reveal about his past. This is never explained. Then in the third act he indiscriminately shoots everyone. This is also never explained.

I agree with the first part, but not with the second - Ayer has a mixed record but he did some really good movies - End of Watch, Fury, Harsh Times, also he wrote the screenplay for Training Day. I sincerely, didn't expect him doing a typical Jason Statham action movie, but here we are - I gtuess after the Suicide Squad and the Ayer cut interview he's not getting great screenplays.

I went to see it tonight because Showcase cinemas had a deal where I could watch it for a fiver. I thought it was hilarious for much of the stuff Dan picks up on. I overhead one woman haughtily declare afterwards “well I felt that was rather far fetched” which could be the dictionary definition of litotes. I particularly loved how all the fights were shot close in to avoid the otherwise obvious fact there were dozens of people not being attacked who could pop him with a head shot at any moment. Not that it matters in the least I would just make a slight adjustment, Jeremy Irons isn’t playing the father, just an ex CIA head who Hutcherson’s mother had a thing with and who leads the family’s security team.
