As a foster parent (albeit in the U.S.) the one thing this advert did really well was the exchange that occurs when you first meet a child at the door of your house. They didn’t pretend that it’s a huge moment full of hugs and immediate affection from the child. The vaguely awkward smile and nod as the girl entered the house along with the kind of nervous energy from the foster parents was perfectly done and really resonated with me.

It's true. It's never like how the movies portray adoption. Never a burst through the door and immediately you're part of the family. Sometimes it takes a bit to adjust. But finding something you can both click with is a great step to making a house a home for someone in a care system.
@goodlookinouthomie17572 жыл бұрын
I'm a foster carer in the UK and you're right. In a way there's not much you can do to comfort a child in that moment - I had a very stable and and secure childhood myself and the very thought of arriving at some strangers doorstep as my new home would have been utterly horrifying. And a lot of these kids have been in that exact place multiple times. Time is the only thing that heals, and trust.

Christmas spirit is in this advert. Many don't have that luxury of having families and big parties. This is showing you someone elses Christmas; a reality you're not contending with if it didn't 'hit the spot'. When our young person came to live with us he was 12. I “won” brownie points because I could sing/rap along to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air titles… 😂😂 His first Christmas with us he couldn’t believe that he didn’t have to “earn” his presents. It has it's ups and downs and is at times very hard work, but i can't imagine anything more rewarding and worthwhile than fostering. Experiences that most young people take for granted like going on holiday, getting on a plane, going to a music gig, may all be new to a teenage foster child, and watching that young person grow and reach their potential is incredible. This is about Love, acceptance and hope. He learnt to skate to be a part of Ellies life and hoped to see her feel welcome and to have a bond over skating. That is Love. Thank you for raising awareness for people in the care system, we always wanted to adopt or foster but don't have a spare bedroom (social housing). Maybe one day that will change 🤞💙

Finally! A masterful Christmas advert by John Lewis again! And it brings attention to a real issue and also relates to Christmas too. 2020 and 2021’s adverts were definitely very weak, but this advert feels like a true return for John Lewis! Bringing attention to a real issue that affects tons of people, whilst also retaining that true Christmas spirit that makes these adverts so wonderful in the first place. Thank you John Lewis! May the revival era continue into 2023 and beyond!

If you didn't know , the partners of John Lewis are it's staff . They all get a share of the profits , they're experts in their departments and even take the merchandise home with them to evaluate . Half my house came from them .

Christmas spirit is in this advert. Many don't have that luxury of having families and big parties. This is showing you someone elses Christmas; a reality you're not contending with if it didn't 'hit the spot'. It's safe to say, it connected with people if you can put

Great advert to raise awareness, it's funny and emotional. As a non-skateboarder my heart was in my mouth watching the future foster dad trying to learn how to skate board at a mature age. Great foster dad going the extra mile. 👏 💗

Definitely the things we do what matters and this advert has a message of hope for a young girl at Christmas.Because Christmas isn’t always family for a child in care .It shows how one man goes out of his way to help the young lady fit in and that truly matters and what he did .

I remember the day I was taken into care aged 14, and how much I was loved and made to feel welcome by total strangers Foster parents really are the kindest people on planet earth, just wish I had the space to do it now I'm an adult. Well done for highlighting kids in care John Lewis 👏
