Hi Claire, I’m so glad that I’ve stumbled soon your video. I love my fiddle leaf plant but not to sure how to grow it out. It grows tall but doesn’t branch out. I recently propagated it and the one stem grew roots which I planted into a pot using all the tips I read about but the leaves are drooping. What can I do about that? Also the mother plant. It doesn’t matter how much I notch it, it still doesn’t grow out but is growing tall. What can I do there?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant

Pruning would be your best option! When you prune, new branches will grow just below the point where you make the chop. But remember the main stem you cut will no longer get taller, but the branches that grow, will! Happy Growing!

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant thank you I’ll try that. What about the newly planted propagated stem… the leaves are drooping. Could it be in shock, should I just leave it and keep watering once a week or should I replant it?

Hello Claire! I got my first fiddle leaf fig on Wednesday, and noticed hard bodied scale, and tiny white dots on the leaves. The nursery I ordered from is sending me a replacement, but I'd like to save the other one if I can. I already removed as much scale as I could, repotted it in very good draining soil, and gave it a neem oil treatment. It's very droopy now, and the white dots won't come off. It doesn't look like mealybugs or powdery mildew, but it worries me. Do I keep treating with neem oil or do I remove all the leaves, chop it back, and start over?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 9 ай бұрын
Keep treating if you can remove the scale! You will want to treat until the infestation is gone. A hose is an easy way to dislodge those scale as well! For more help, you can always post pictures inside our helpful community! fiddleleaffigplant.com/community

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant thank you! The vendor did contact the grower and sent him my pictures, and they said it was completely normal and not scale. I'm not on facebook or Instagram, so unfortunately I can't post pictures on your community page. I did see two different kinds of bumps, of which one looked like a tiny brown barnacle, which I really do think is scale, though, and the others looked like they could be tiny growth points.

Hi Claire , love your videos. I took your advice you gave me previously and repotted my fiddle leaf Fifi . She started growing again but I’ve noticed the new leaves all stayed quite small . She’s in south facing window, chunky soil mix and liquid gold leaf plus worm castings. She’s also more of a bush variety with two main stems and about three smaller thinner stems which aren’t really growing. Can you give me any advice please ? Thank you Keely

@FiddleLeafFigPlant 9 ай бұрын
Sounds like you are doing all the right things! A younger plant will be smaller if it is more of a bush variety. Make sure it is getting as much light as possible. Sitting directly in front of and up against the window is the best place for it. More light will mean bigger leaves!

Thanks for the tips. Question regarding watering. For many of our plants we’ve been using terracotta pots because they’re porous and combine with bottom watering (fantastic capillary action). So far this has been a great strategy for all of our plant species. I’m wondering what your viewpoint is on this methodology…especially since you recommend the soil dry out completely first. We just purchased the 4’ tree from the nursery a few days ago and noticed many roots protruding out of the top soil with vibrant moss on top of the plastic container so we’ll plan to repot pretty soon.
@storytellerHD
@storytellerHD 7 ай бұрын
Side note: We specifically use terracotta/clay because of the value of air exchange and water absorption is beneficial to the roots, microbial ecosystem, and general health of the plant(s). Curious to know your position on this point. We’ve watched many of your videos this afternoon. They’re very good. Educational. By the way…we’re naming our first ficus/fig, “Newton”. Partially because of the late great scientist, and partly because of the cookie…though this one isn’t fruit bearing.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 7 ай бұрын
Love the name! Newton would be very happy in a terra cotta pot. It wicks away moisture and if there are holes on the bottom you won't have to worry about overwatering. I do recommend removing any decorative moss on top. The aerial roots need to breathe and anything on top of the soil will keep too much moisture in. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure that water is thoroughly soaking through the soil and draining well out the bottom drainage holes. Your plant will acclimate in the next 4 weeks so make sure it is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window for the best access to the light it needs! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I went out of town and the person I left in charge didn’t water my fiddle tree 🌳 because he though it was fake ☠️🙀😵, we lost 15 leaves 🍃. Is it going to grow back the leaves?!?! And if so is there any way that I can rescue it??!!? It has been with me for 4 years. I hope you can see this msg. Thanks God I found your channel, Thank you 🙏🏼

It can bounce back! Unfortunately the leaves won't regrow where they once were however, rehydrate the soil by soaking it in water and then letting the soil drain properly out the bottom drainage holes. Place it directly in front of and up against your brightest window so it has the energy and light it needs to recover. If direct sunlight is hitting the plant, use a sheer curtain to make the direct light, indirect. For more help, you can join and post some pictures inside our helpful community! Hello Claire, Amazing content, thank you so much for the video so loaded with Information. A couple of doubts. 1. I couldn't find the link for the bonuses that you talked about. 2. You said that Fiddle leaf can be put in bright sun, while I saw in most videos that it should be kept in indirect sunlight. Please advise.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 8 ай бұрын
Direct sunlight is best for plants that have been acclimated to direct sun. They grow in full sun in the wild however, when you bring them indoors, they are losing a lot of the light they need. I recommend making sure the plant is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. Using a sheer curtain to protect the leaves from direct sunlight burns. hi Claire When I check my fiddle fig with my water meter, the root ball is dry but the outer section of the pot reads wet. Do I water for wait til the whole pot reads dry. Its been 2 weeks since I have last watered. Please help, I love my Frederica!
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 8 ай бұрын
It sounds like your soil may be hydrophobic and not properly soaking up the water that you give it. I recommend making sure the soil is aerated and the root ball has access to the water you are giving the plant. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the full soil and root ball have access to the water and it is draining properly out the bottom drainage holes. Hello Claire! I am planning on notching my fiddle leaf figs in spring, but I also would like to repot them as they have been sitting in the same 20 cm pots for 4 years... Can I do notching and repotting at the same time, or would that be too stressful? And in that case, what would be the correct order and timing to go about these two operations?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 6 ай бұрын
Great question! It would be a little stressful so I recommend repotting and letting the plant acclimate to its new pot. Once you see it has recovered, go ahead and try 3-5 spots to notch! Happy Growing!

Thank you! How long should I wait after repotting, benone I notch? And is it ok to repot when the plat is dormant? Or is it better to repot when it is actively growing?

Don’t spend $29. for her root rot supplement when there’s a cheaper way. Use one cup hydrogen peroxide and three cups water. After you trim the rot off wash roots with water then soak them in the hydrogen peroxide/water mixture for 30 minutes. Then was roots again with water and repot in cactus soil. Claire gives good tips but then will sell you something. She’s marketing her products.

Love your fiddle's name! ❤ I recommend moving up 2-4" in pot size when you go larger and make sure there are multiple holes on the bottom. Nursery pots do really well if the holes are on the bottom (not the sides). Happy Growing!
