One thing I kinda like as a side effect of the lack of launch tutorials is that so many creators are making guides to the game all at once, and it's allowing newer players an easy way to start interacting with the community. I feel like once the official tutorials are added on top of all these youtube videos and such (fantastic video btw), we're gonna see a huge surge of new players already armed with the knowledge of how to kick butt in this game.

Worried that any new player guide for RoA2 would be too long, I considered trying to making one like the super short P+ Lucario guide I made a few years ago. But after some testing, it got up to like... 10+ minutes or more, was information overload, and I just... "Maybe Wisely will make a guide. That'd be so much better than this." I think I made the right call. This is a phenomenally paced and super instructive guide! Now y' just gotta get a streamed session with Sajam and the timeline will be restored. Or something.
@thespacetime2 ай бұрын
as a complete beginner to platform fighting games(or any similar) at all. this is the most useful guide i have seen. i tried other guides, but they are just as confusing as they are trying to help. i did not even know i have that many options after a shield or what are the best options if i shield. i felt like my shields were useless before because i will most of the time be hit after i shield
@micahrobbins83532 ай бұрын
Here's a bonus out of shield concept in case you weren't overwhelmed already lol. When you press jump, you first spend a few frames on the ground, which is called the jumpsquat. You can actually up strong, up special, and wave dash during the jumpsquat. That means those are a few more out of shield options immediately after you press jump from shield. Wave dash is a little more advanced of a technique, but even the advanced techniques were designed to be accessible to new players unlike melee

As a relatively new Rivals player, the most annoying thing is how it seems everybody I fight online has like 400 hours in rivals 1 and got 200 hours in the beta. I’m in bronze and these mfs are crouch cancelling, pityflipping, wall teching, comboing my ass off. Like bro it’s 650 bronze? Why are u down here? Don’t get me wrong I like rivals a lot, it’s been a lot of fun playing casually w my mostly ass friends and stuff, but I want to take it a lil more seriously and try to Get Good. It’s just hard to figure out where to start!
@Jollofmuncher20002 ай бұрын
I'm 650 bronze but I'm facing pretty bad players lol. I felt like the matchmaking was fine especially for a fighting game. What I worry is that it won't get better if the game doesn't get as many players in the future it's a hard fix

Thanks so much for this. This is my first platform fighter and I spent 5 hours having no idea what's going on or what my options were. Even after watching another Beginner's Guide video, it was clear that some kind of previous platformer knowledge was expected to follow along with that one. This video breaking down all the minor details down for a new player like me has really helped figure out what I was doing wrong before and what I can utilize from now on to better grow my fundamentals.

One thing I would love to see out of this channel, on top of all the tutorials, would be some kind of way for new folks to connect with the community: info on where to find tournaments, where to find streams, etc... Since the game's menus doesn't tell you about those tournaments, and neither does the official discord, I've found it hard to actually connect with the community because I just don't know where to even start looking.

I need to work on DI in this game. I have been treating it like melee but I swear I am dying far earlier than I should. EDIT: Just did, So it is like melee mostly. Holding down on potentially killing blows is bad. Holding up and in is good or even up and out to the corner (depending on the hit of course) is better than holding down and in. Now I just gotta learn when every move will cause this level of knockback and when to use this DI.

How does one do combo/survival di at the same time as perpendicular DI? If you do both at same time, wouldn't it stop being perpendicular? Or are you meant to choose between either combo/survival di or perpendicular di?
@atWisely2 ай бұрын
Good question! The most impactful DI is *always* perpendicular to the line of knockback. Combo/Survival is shorthand for the most out or in DI compared to the angle you're sent at. Perpendicular always changes the angle the most, it's not always literally just left or right @nacligang - You're thinking of SDI, a separate thing that I'm not including until a more advanced video in the series
@nacligang2 ай бұрын
Went to check the Rivals 1 tutorial and yea you choose between the two di depending on how far away you want to be from the opponent If you're vs a character with good range you want to go for combo di to make follow ups harder and if you're vs a character with strong hits that combo together you want to go for Survival di to prevent early stocks
@ekwensu87972 ай бұрын
@atWisely So perpendicular di changes the angle of knocback the most as a baseline, but changing the perpendicularity of the di by holding towards the stage (for survival di) or away from the stage (for combo di) can be done to change how far back you are launched, with a decreased change of angle as compensation?
@nacligang2 ай бұрын
@@atWiselyYea that's where I was getting mixed up at
@TimmWith2Ms2 ай бұрын
If you understand some basic physics, think of DI as adding another force vector that adjusts the original trajectory. You 'ideally' want to DI in a perpendicular direction to your trajectory because it has the greatest effect on trajectory angle.
@KaebrenАй бұрын
okay so I'm confused is it melee DI or smash 4/ultimate DI because you literally show it on screen as melee DI at first then you say you just hold directly in which are two completely different things. do I hold up or in to live longer
@atWiselyАй бұрын
Melee DI! The game refers to DI as "out or away", but that's always assuming out or away in regards to the perpendicular line. I didn't want to overcomplicate the mechanic for someone that's never even heard of DI before, but I'll explain it more thoroughly in an upcoming video
@Bazigrappler2 ай бұрын
Your beard looks cool
@gEEKLEEKs2 ай бұрын
I thought you hold up for survival Di when a move attacks you horizontally?
@atWisely2 ай бұрын
You do if it's perfectly horizontal! In or out are the colloquial terms for types of DI, and that's why I mentioned the perpendicular part beforehand. I didn't want to confuse brand new people too much though by going WAY into specifics. But yeah, general rule of thumb is to DI towards the corner of the blastzone to survive longer, it's not strictly left or right.
