YES!1. ELP I'd say people may need a second listen as the first time will just blow you away.. By the time Keith just hits you hard with the Three Fates, and by the end of the album hits you with that Moog solo.. I mean, that put the Moog on the map for the general masses, and it made radio which really pushed the instrument and the genre so much!!

For someone getting into prog Id recommend stuff like early 70s Uriah Heep or Wishbone Ash which is easily digestable than move onto more advanced prog like Tull, Genesis, Yes, Camel etc. Great seeing so many of the younger generation discovering the greatest music ever made and keeping it alive.

Uriah Heep, especially the "classic line up". Personally, I see them as an ultra heavy hard rock band. Much heavier than any "metal" band and a bit heavier than Black Sabbath in the early days. Trivia for the day, I helped them load in ("roadie") for a show ('73? or '74) that turned out to be the heaviest, loudest show I ever saw and heard. My ears were still ringing the next day ;-) If you want to go with prog, that's ok, but at that time they were ovr the top heavy, at least in person..

LOL! I saw them at the Palladium in 1974 just after Demons and Wizards came out. I got there as early as I could and got to be right in front of the stage. Add one point I felt like my eardrums were about to implode so I slightly cupped my hands over my ears to protect them. David Byron saw me and picked me out like I was a heckler at a comedy show. He looked at me and said, "are we too loud? Do you want us to turn it down-- do you want us to turn it down?"--at which point they all turned up! That was my 15 seconds of fame😅

Hey you two. I recommend you stop whatever you're doing and listen to Kentucky Woman by Deep Purple. If those aren't two of the most amazing solos you've ever heard I will eat my socks! Listen to grandpa. What do you think of early Kansas? Also, if you haven't heard it, I would recommend Uriah Heep's Look At Yourself. It's right up there with Deep Purple In Rock imo. Thanks again.

Revisiting the word metal that it was commonly used in the 70's is a mystery to me cause myself I only started to hear it in the 80's .I am 68 years of age going on 69 and I have been playing bass since I was 15 years of age and played lots of Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad and so on and never did I hear someone use the word metal. Maybe it depends on were you live I guess. Anyway it's just my opinion I just don't see in the ones I mentioned and they don't sound anything like Metallica or Tool or any other metal groups. Don't mean to offend just my opinion. 😎

With all do respect please stop using the word metal when describing rock music from the late 60's and 70's. The word metal didn't exist yet it came out in mid 80's. No offense I hope, don't mean to tear you down I appreciate the fact that Gen z's love and keep alive the music I grew up on. Keep up the good work ,tks 😎👍

Yeah, none of this music is what would be considered metal. I think we brought that up just as a reference point to the 21st Century Schizoid Man, for how heavy a tune it really is, and many heavy metal bands have covered it in the years since. Not labelled really as metal itself, just a super heavy track! 😃🤘🎵
@mauricemorning
@mauricemorning 6 ай бұрын
That is incorrect. We used the words "heavy metal" all the time in the 70's when referring to bands like Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Sir Lord Baltimore;, Uriah Heep, et al. There are many documented uses of the phrase by rock critics as far back as 1968.
@patrickmcevoy5080

What are you talking about? I was there in the '70s and I can assure you we called lots of bands Metal or Heavy Metal in the '70s. People came to re-define it later, but we definitely called the Scorpions, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, and others Metal. Some people even called Led Zeppelin and AC/DC "Heavy Metal".

True. The term metal didn’t really happen until sometime in the late 70s early 80s. Black Sabbath at the beginning just called themselves heavy blues! Hahaha
