Gotta tell you guys I've been watching since Billy's1st trawler in Gilgo.. I'm and old retired drummer/bartender that spent some time in Blue Point, so Billy's family name was known to me. I can't begin to count the times being stressed beyond the max in NYC you guys have taken me out of the depths to some great adventures.. Thanks again and happy sails to you. P.S. hugs to Jetty!!!

This is when being a KZbinr really pays off because you have such great footage that you are generally filming or ready to film. That was a huge Blue Marlen. You guys did well to even get it to your boat. I was really happy when you released him. Such a beautiful creature. Honestly, I don't know how you would have gotten that size fish into your boat with just the two of you. He looked to weigh a lot. What a special memory that will be.

At 22:49 that’s a Bahama Mockingbird singing. Those occasionally show up in Florida. They are a little larger than our Northern Mockingbirds with a white-tipped tail and without white wing bars. The underside is streaked mostly on the sides.

Not enough copper in the bottom paint. See if you can find a wholesaler of surplus bottom paint from the US Navy yard. It’s probably easier to find in Norfolk than South Florida but I was lucky enough to find some up north before I splashed five gallons ran me $150.00 but four years later I still had very little growth below the boot stripe. To the point the diver I used bought the remaining bottom paint for his sailboat.

Great job with the marlin! Thank you for holding him while he recovered before you released him. We once had a marlin on line when he jumped and got tail wrapped by the leader, and we reeled him in backwards. We held on to him for around 30 minutes or longer while he recovered. We watched the water off the stern and saw him leap in the air as to signal to us he was ready for another day! Yellow fin tuna are the best. We would grill tuna steaks and cook extra filets for tuna salad the next day. Fair winds and following seas.

For a guy that never caught a billfish before, you did a great job of reviving that one. You looked like a pro. As for those strainers, see if you maybe have the inlet & outlet sides reversed. The outlet passage on a strainer housing is often smaller & clogs as you described if you mistakenly use it as an inlet.

About the 90* sea strainer fittings, search for long radius 90s to replace the sharp angle 90s
@Tulasendlesssummer6 ай бұрын
Good recommendation! We’ve used them before. They are also called “full-flow 90” or “full-flow elbow”
@spaRTan32466 ай бұрын
I‘d rather replace those sea strainers. 🫣
@jus4funtim6 ай бұрын
@@spaRTan3246 granted that would probably be the best choice but long radius 90s would be the most economical and fastest and easiest remedy, if they still have clogging problems they can still upgrade
@MichaelBean-h1s6 ай бұрын
Sometimes the fittings are called constant radius fittings. Check out a race car fabrication supply company. Not cheep but won’t clog like that and give full flow very close to a straight fitting. Love the show. Glad you’re back on the water.

The (self-polishing) bottom paint I use has around 30 % copper by weight. No barnacles. Unpainted hulls get completely covered with barnacles in a few weeks. So a good bottom paint should work.

The Laurie Sue rode out the hurricane in Egmont Lagoon in the mangroves. A new channel I watch is the Adventure Crew and they filmed all the boats holding on for dear life. The Video is in the live feeds. It looks like it was the safest place in Grenada. It might be a good site to look at since they had some real time interviews on US network news.

The safest place in Grenada was Trinidad. Been here 9 years and finally had to flee. I have to say if I were in Egmont I would have stayed. 14+ boats grounded in Prickly Bay and several more unsalvageable still afloat.

Back when I was an installer, we avoided 90’s like the plague. An elbow adds the equivalent of 30D, which is 30 times the diameter of the pipe…in feet. If that was a 1/2” fitting, that’d be the equal of 15 feet additional piping. If it were a 3/4” fitting, that’d be like having an extra 22.5’ of pipe. This can lead to pressure, or flow loss.

Can you pressure back wash those strainer pipes and elbows ... If you have to go through a 90deg turn its better to have a smooth bend than a sharp elbow. Better still is to have a closed keel cooling loop . By now you've heard and seen what Hurricane Beryls up to and how its tracking with more brewing behind it. 😢

I’ve noticed that customers use trampoline material for shade ontop of their trellises which block the sun but allow the smallest amount of light to shine thru .. I ask where they purchased the material and usually they say from a lawn mower and outdoors sales company but I’m sure the internet would be your best bet however if ever in a pinch .. Now you know .
