Hedwig was hit with a killing curse. She’s dead and won’t be coming back. It’s still better than it was in the book, where she was in her cage riding alongside Harry, and was hit randomly, unable to do anything to defend herself. At least here she was trying to help Harry escape by attacking the Death Eaters, and so went out fighting.

True Hedwig's death was heroic here, but they used THAT as the reason Voldemort KNEW which Harry to follow. In the book Harry disarms Stan Shuntpike instead of using a more damaging curse; and EXPELLIARMUS is HOW Voldemort recognized Harry, as that had become his signature spell.

I wish they had Wormtail's redemption part in the movie. He hesitates when Harry says "You owe me!" talking about saving Wormtail's life from Sirius, and lets go of Harry in the basement, but his silver hand he was given was enchanted to choke him if he turned on Voldemort. It started to choke him and Harry and Ron struggled to remove his silver hand around his own neck. That's how he died in the books.

I figured something like that would be a little too dark to depict onscreen, but it's definitely a shame that it didn't get translated to film, especially since now Wormtail just sort of disappears from the films with no real explanation

I love your reactions! But they did Ron so dirty throughout the whole series.. They gave a lot of Rons lines and function to Hermione instead because the filmmaker liked her character more with the excuse "oh she probably read it in a book.".. In the books Ron has an actual function since he is the only one of the three thats actually born and raised in the magical world and knows how it works, e.g he is the one that explains the concept of wizard blood-purity to Harry and Hermione and tells Harry that hearing voices isnt very good, even in the wizard world. Yes, Hermione is very book smart and excellent with spells but crumbles fast when it gets too stressfull (example, when they deal with the Devils Snare in the first book/movie). Ron is street smart and is arguably Harrys better friend, Harry loves them both to bits but in terms of just hanging out he vibes more with Ron. Ron is also way less mean to Hermione in the books, for example in Prisoner when Snape trashes Hermione for being a know-it-all Ron sticks up for her and tells Snape (something akin to) "You asked a question and she knows the answer, why ask if you dont want to be told." instead we got "He got a point you know..".. They made him at best loyal goof for comedical effect and stipped him of the rest. Best example in this movie is when they read the Tale of Beedle The Bard, in the movie Rons awareness has jumped into the vanishing-cabinet cuz it aint here.. He knows that neither of his muggle-raised friend didnt get to hear it as children (especially not Harry with all the years of abuse) because it exposes the wizarding world and hence its a wizard-only childrens book.. And in contrast, when he tries to call Harry and uncle Vernon picks up the phone he scream of the top of his lungs when using the phone since he dont know how muggle-stuff works. He also dosnt have to be dragged into the forbidden forrest in Chambers, he volunteers to go with Harry, he is his ride or die. Sorry for the long rant, again love your reactions and cant wait for the finale!

Agreed; all these people who say "Harry and Hermione should be the ones to get together", Harry and Hermione barely talked to each other when Ron wasn't in the picture. Ron was the guy who facilitated their friendship more or less. His role was critical as not just the goofy/loyal friend, but the guy who held the group together. Never mind how unbelievably refreshing it was that Harry and Hermione never even hinted at that they could be a romantic couple. Other people suggested it because they're good friends, but Harry and Hermione always scoffed at the idea. How many teen novels, and franchises in general, have the male and female lead not even consider being a couple? Even if the main leads don't get together they usually try out being a couple for a time before deciding to be just friends. Harry and Hermione are a purely platonic couple

The thing with the locket is that it's not just an all or nothing when wearing it. It eats away at the person, like the One Ring in LotR still affected Gollum and Bilbo long after they hadn't even been around it. It grows worse over time and taking it off just lets it start to decrease, but with just the three of them they were having to cycle who had it before they were fully recovered from the effects of their previous time having it, so it was ultimately always getting worse and worse. That's why Harry was still so angry with Ron when Ron was the one currently wearing it during that fight.

It's capturing a moment we all experience at some point, when we realize that being an adult is difficult and nothing like we imagined it to be. When we yearn for the simplicity and nativity of childhood. Daniel and Emma absolutely nail this scene and the song choice really drives home the point. It's a really well done scene.

With Ron, it was far more than just the necklace. That injury he got after the Ministry was actually still not healed, they had nothing to heal him with. He was REALLY messed up physically and the locket messed him up mentally/emotionally. The movies dont portray this very well but the books do. Ron was in extremely bad shape, like half dead type bad shape.

I don't know if wizards and muggles are different races, exactly, since magic can appear in people from purely muggle parents (Hermione) and some people with entirely magical parents can be born without it (Filch the caretaker, if memory serves?) That said Voldemort and his cronies are definitely bigoted.

5:00 To be clear, whilst Voldemort, his ancestor Salazar Slytherin, and all his Death Eaters like Malfoy, are extremely racists and do believe in the superiority of pure blood wizards, wizards are in fact not a different race. Might be more of a latent genetic trait, or just something way more mystic. That's why muggles sometimes have wizard children (like Hermione), and wizard also sometimes have muggle children, called squibs (like Hogwarts caretaker Filch, or Harry's neighbor Ms. Figg).

They are different subraces. Wizards and Muggles have different anatomy even though both are human. Been mentioned multiple times in other books and media. Very similar but for example Wizards have a much longer average life span than humans up to two or three times longer. Muggles can't have yellow or purple eyes. Some medical cures wouldn't work at all on muggles and some are vice versa. So in a sense, yes they are different enough. But they are very compatible with each other. It's more kind of like different races of dog.

2:48 - Actually, as others have mentioned already probably at this point there's a deleted scene where Harry's family has a grain of redemption. His aunt gets emotional in the empty house and tells Harry that the day Voldemort killed his mother she also lost a sister (showing that regardless the jelousy she showed in previous movies, she loved her). When they're all leaving Dudley stops and ask why Harry is not going with them, the uncle mumbles some reasons among which he call Harry a waste of space so Dudley walks up to Harry and tells him that he doesn't see him as a waste of space and shakes his hand, showing that he actually remembers that Harry saved his life. I haven't read the books but they told me that there Dudley changes even before that. In any case they weren't leaving Harry behind, Harry told them to leave to protect them from the death eaters while he had to stay to fight them. 18:23 - In the whole story she's written as the best character. J K Rowling wanted to make a story where the best character is a witch but she had to make Harry the protagonist to sell more because she knew boys mostly used to read magic fantasy books and they wouldn't relate well to a female protagonist. She still wrote the best character as a witch who outsmarts everyone around her though.

To be honest in the extended cut there is. Scene that redeems the Dursleys a little. Petunia, the aunt, tells Harry that on the day he lost his mother she also lost her sister. Which is no excuse for her behavior, but still it is a glimpse of her side of things and although she envied Lily, she was still her sister. Additionally Dudley tells Harry farewell and tells him that he is no waste of space as Harry implied only moments before. It really shows how Dudley grew up from the guy he was before!

Okay, so a few things that were changed or left out. The Dursleys were not moving, but being sent into hiding so they wouldn't be captured and interrogated/tortured for Info about Harry. Dudley actually stopped being as much of a bully to Harry after the dementors attacked and Harry saved his life. They actually gave Harry polyjuice potion to disguise him during the wedding in case any of the guests were hostile or compromised. The wedding was for Bill Weasley (Ron's oldest brother) and Fleur Delaceur, the Beauxbaton champion from Goblet of Fire, and that's why Madame Maxime was there. Ginny had a crush on Harry for years, and had finally started dating in Half blood prince, wherein, in the book, Harry ended up developing a major crush on her and it's actually them that kissed after a match where SHE played seeker because he was in detention or something (forgive me, it's been years since I read the books.) At which point Ron accepted the inevitable. And, for the record, Ron and Hermione feel much less unnatural together in the books because he has more depth, and actually listens to her. The line in the cafe about the jeans being 'not his favorite' annoys me so much because in the books they're just his old jeans and a little too tight. Also, Harry's invisibility cloak is obviously THE cloak from the story, so he's descended from the brothers. And it isn't said anywhere, but I'm pretty sure when they were sent into hiding, they were staying in Dumbledore's family home. Neville is also way more key in the books.

In the books th idea of them not returning to Sirius house is more touching because in the end Kreacher treats them nicely and is waiting for them with the dinner ready. Hermione changes their destination and leaves Yaxley behind because the house is protected with a spell that makes it only visible for those who know where it is and she's afraid of the idea of them accidentally revealing it to him.

Important details the movie left out from the book: Dudley and Harry make peace before they leave. Wizards/witches and muggles aren't different races, one just has magic and the other doesn't. But muggles can suddenly and randomly have magical children (muggle-borns) and wizards/witches can suddenly and randomly have non-magical children (squibs). Voldemort hates muggles and muggle-borns because he views them as inferior, plus his father was a muggle, so he views that as a weakness within himself that he hates and keeps secret. Ginny was really sidelined in the movies, she had a bigger and more important role in the books. And both Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione was more fleshed out. Wormtail died in the book. Because Harry saved him from being killed by Sirius and Lupin, this created a kind of life bond, where Wormtail owed Harry his life. When Harry and his friends try to escape, Harry reminds him that he saved his life, and Wormtail hesitates. This caused the silver hand that Voldemort gave Wormtail to turn against him and strangle him to death; it was a failsafe Voldemort put into it in case Wormtail ever turned against him because of the life bond. Dumbledore got the Elder Wand after defeating the dark wizard Grindelwald, who he was in love with in his youth. They were both trying to obtain the Deathly Hallows, which was when Dumbledore committed most of his dark deeds along side Grindelwald. But then things went bad between them and so Dumbledore eventually fought to stop him.

As seen in that scene...the Elder Wand was then stolen by a young "Gellert Grindelwand"...The most powerfull dark wizard of all time before Voldemort...You will learn about him in the Fantastic Beasts series.

I'm so glad that this abominable trend to split single stories into two movies didn't last. The funniest thing is that even though this, together with part 2 is a movie over 4 hours long, it is also one of the most superficial adaptations of any of the seven books. It is bloated with unecesarrily long walking scenes, a dragged out end battle. And the actual meat of the story is still as glossed over as in all the other 6 movies.

The Dursley’s were beign transfered to a safe house because Harry’s protective spell was going to break when he turned 17. As awful as they were they didn’t abandoned Harry. Also, each Wandmaker uses a specific cores for the manufacture of wands. Ollivander uses Dragon heart strings, Phoenix feathers and Unicorn’s hair. Harry and Voldemort’s wands share the same core, which is two feathers from Fwakes, Dumbeldore’s Phoenix.

This is an really interesting and imp detail...If you notice carefully when Hermione clears the snow on the grave in Godric's Hollow, you can see the name Ignotus Peverell on that grave... Ignotus Peverell of the great "Peverell Family" is the 3rd brother (original owner of the Cloak of Invisibility) from the deathly hallows story who is Potter Family's direct ancestor... The 1st brother from the story is Antioch Peverell who got the Elder Wand...but he does not have any direct descendants unlike his brothers because he was killed by another wizard and the Elder Wand was stolen from him... The 2nd brother's name is Cadmus Peverell who got the Resurrection Stone...some later generation of him mated with some later generation of Salazar Slytherin of the great Slytherin Family (one of the 4 founding members of Hogwarts) which gave rise to another great pure blood family called the Gaunt Family (Voldemort's ancestors...his maternal family). Voldemort's mother is Merope Gaunt, daughter of Marvolo Gaunt who married a muggle named Tom Riddle Sr...gave birth to Voldemort and named him Tom Marvolo Riddle. Peverell Family Tree ----> harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Peverell_family In current time... Dumbledore had the Elder Wand (20:02 stolen by Gellert Grindelwald from wandmaker Gregorovitch and then later Dumbledore defeated Grindlewald and must have got the Elder Wand)....The Resurrection Stone is the one in Tom Riddle's ring which Dumbledore had in the previous movie kept along with the Diary (the ring originally belonged to his mother)...and the Cloak Of Invisibility is with Harry which was passed down to him by his dad.

There is a cut scene (that really shouldn't have been cut) where Harry says goodbye to to the Dursleys, and Dudley makes it clear that he doesn't hate him. It goes something like this: The Dursleys are getting into their car, and Vernon realizes that this isn't goodbye, this is farewell. When he says that, Dudley is confused, asking if Harry isn't comming with them. When Vernon points out that Harry wouldn't want to, Harry speaks up, informing Vernon that he knows he sees Harry as nothing but "a waste of space." Vernon is troubled by it being thrown in his face like that, so he says nothing but "Let's go, Dudley". But Dudley doesn't get into the car. Instead, he walks up to Harry, and extends his hand. When Harry shakes it, Dudley states "I don't think you're a waste of space." In the book, it's made ckear that what Dudley means is that he cares about Harry, and that he came to that conclusion because Harry rescued him from the Dementors two years ago, and that he's been struggling with how to say it for over a year. It is also made clear that, after the series ended, Harry and Dudley stayed in touch, in a "send each other Cristmass cards" kind of way, and that they occasionally let their children play together while they sat on a bench and not talk to each other.
