Its only the Canadian suppliers with the weak springs. Benchmade has said this several times. They said Canadians were having trouble pressing down the lock bar with the stronger spring installed.

When I first heard that the knife will be way lighter and will have a way thinner blade stock i was already sceptical. Luckely I waited to buy to see some prove videos and reviews

Seems to be the norm with these new adamas, Mini and full size. It's a folder yes but, it's BMs tank. Should be able to handle anything. Mine had a lock failure and sliced my thumb deep just trying to whittle wood using the back of the blade to smooth out the wood.

Dutch brother knives had the same problem, except it was the mini adamas, the freak stood up to batoning and the such. The mini adamas broke free of it's lock on the first baton. And it's because of the springs/lock bar. The freak had way more contact with the lock bar. Sucks that benchmade had such a sold knife with the original adams, then they make a new one, only to weaken the springs, and, create less contact with the lock bar. I was gonna buy the new one, not anymore

Hard use folders should be able to split wood. Even split steel bolts for that matter without the lock failing.

They also downgraded their Benchmade 375 last year. You should check out all the comments. 90% of them were like "Why did you remove the serrated back feature?". They said they wanted to "streamline it", Translation: We needed to cut costs because our company isn't what it used to be.

@voyager6673 жыл бұрын
Tactical folder can be divided into 2 categories, what people carry for defense (Espada the Boss) and what people use in the army. For army it is usually light, not big folders, that is sturdy enough and easy in maintainence (not frontal opening). They are usually jack of all trades so you could cut, split, stab with it but not excellent for any of these. As I heard, nowadays soldiers don't use fixed blades most of the time. Not intended use for this type of knives sounds kinda strange. People use very often endura, delica, bugout, pm2 as army folders. That is enough for "hard use". I'm not against the "tactical" things but it is not the appearance what makes something tactical.

Let me just start by saying, I agree with everyone who thinks this is a colossal f**kup. These should not have left the factory in the state they are in. However.... theres a lot of misinformation going around about this issue. 1. Lot of people think the springs are weaker, which is false (generally). I have both the new and the original adamas (6 years old at this point) and they have the exact same set of springs. Same diameter, same size, even the same damn color. So why does the old lock feel stronger? Beacuse the way they mount it on the liners is different. The mounting holes on the old one are closer to the axis bar, than it is on the new one. This way, when mounted, the springs are more compressed at all time, thus the tension is higher. You can try swapping the old springs (I have), but they won't feel any different. 2. The lock engages way too early. Well, so does the lock on my Contego, yet it's rock solid. The axis bar barely touches the blade tang and still no problems. 3. The surfaces on the axis bar and the blade tang are polished and way too smooth. Nope still not it. You can rough it up all you want and it will give you some lock stick for a few days, but eventually they will polish each other out. (I've tried this one too.) What the hell is the problem then? It's the lock face geometry. Too much material was removed at the factory I guess, and the angles are messed up. So when it's locked and you try to wiggle it, or give it a good spine wack, the axis bar simply slides off. Or more specifically, the blade tang just rotates out from under it. Could stronger springs solve this? Sure, to some extent, but one could argue that you would only need more force for it to disengage. (For example: whack it harder :D ) To anyone who has this problem, try this: get a piece of printer paper, fold it 2 or 3 times, and place it between the stop pin and the blade tang. Now carefully close the blade, so that the paper get sandwiched between those 2 surfaces. And it's fixed. Well, not permanently, but at least we've learned something :D. So, the blade gets stopped a bit earlier, more steel is exposed to the axis bar to ride on and the agles are just as God, Sibert, McHenry and Williams had intended. I've fixed mine, permanently, by fitting a piece of stainless steel tube on the middle part of the stop pin, where it meets the tang. Like a collar, if you will. I highly doubt you'll be able to find the correct size, but a bit of filing, cutting and sanding will do the trick. The stop pin is 4.5 - 4.6 mm in diameter, if you boost that to 5.5, you'll be good to go. Don't make it too thick, beacuse the back of the blade tang will hit it, and you won't be able to close the blade. (5.8 mm should be fine, 5.9 or 6 mm is too much). So, the the piece of tube should be: 4.9 - 5 mm long, 4.5 - 4.6 mm inner diameter and 0.5 - 0.6 mm wall thickness. That will give you an outer diameter of 5.5 - 5.8 mm. Spine whacks or batoning don't affect is anymore and no more lock rock. Have a bit of lock stick now, but it will go away. Always does on Benchmades. Or, you could send it to Benchmade and have the blade replaced. But I'm an idiot, so theres that... Sorry for the long post, and my english. :D

The all around T6 screws frame screws, on this “tank” is BS as well! They need to be at least T8’s. If anything, the stop pin screws need to be bigger! Really disappointed that I put down the cash for this thing, and WAS completely stoked and proud to have it, just to, later be deflated big time! I want to love it so bad! But I cannot trust it, whatsoever! And that is the funeral for any knife, as far as I’m concerned. 😞
@toddstamos892 жыл бұрын
You claimed the beginning to be sarcastic, but the Adamas slicing the strawberry is exactly an “intended use” for this knife…or any knife, since a level of food prep is inherently an “intended use” for an EDC folding knife or even in a survival situation, since food prep is certainly an “intended use” for a blade… I’ve hard used this knife, and unless you like to baton with a folder, which is not an “intended use,” and no one ever does (unless testing a folder for KZbin), this knife is fine. But you can baton with the Adamas if you know what you are doing. Get a fixed blade for fixed blade “intended uses.” That what they are for. This video is like complaining that while your butter knife can cut a Turkey sandwich, it can’t carve a Thanksgiving Turkey. Get the right tool for the job. Don’t complain that a Phillips head can’t handle the job of a flathead screwdriver, just because both are screwdrivers. Or complain that manual sockets aren’t as good as a hydraulic socket in removing a car tire, even though both are designed to loosed a nut from a bolt. Or that a screwdriver isn’t as good as a drill. Again, the right tool for the job. And who carries a folding knife where one of the primary concerns is cutting though Kevlar (which the Adamas can easily do without the lock failing)? If that situation ever becomes a realistic reality, and you really think such a situation might breakdown to close quartered combat (without firearms), then carry a fixed blade.
