My sister in law went into work shortly after finding out she was pregnant, and one of her coworkers walked up to her, unprompted, took a deep sniff, and said, "You're pregnant. Go home." So the first one to find out she was pregnant was not her husband, but some random dude with 7 kids.

I like the smell of *_m o s s_* . I will explain; My childhood home had a very mossy backyard, my mom would eventually clean it with bleach every now and then, but the moss always came back, and it seemed to come back quicker every time, at some point she gave up. She liked to keep the doors open, but because of that the smell of moss was all over the place in my house, I didn't disliked it, I grew accustomed to it because of that "odor fatige", and I eventually started linking it with the feeling of coming home after a terrible day of school; of peace and quiet, of my cats, of drawing my characters in the living room, of my mom making dinner. It just became a lovely scent to me. So, now, when I smell moss, I just get a really cool effect of both nostalgia and _"Wahh... what a beautiful place"_ . And my friends think I'm weird. Moss is cool, leave me alone. Edit: spelling.

Book smell is the best smell. But I usually stick my nose too deep into the book and snort so hard that I immediately lose the ability to tell what books even smell like. So for me to have a book smell scent it would have to be the mustiest, inkiest, old tome smell and I fear anything that potent would be too much power for any mortal to wield.

I have an anxiety disorder and PTSD. Last year I realized that I can smell the difference in my own sweat based of if it is anxiety driven or if it is just from being hot. Anxiety sweat also comes from different sweat glands on your body compared to sweat generated from being too hot. My anxiety sweat seems to have more of a "sour" note to it for lack of an easier explanation. It's pretty subtle, but I can smell the difference fairly well. I'm not sure if I can smell it on other people because I don't go around sniffing other people's sweat.

Fun fact. Since smells are chemicals that have become airborne you can’t smell metal (unless it’s been burned like when you burn steel wool with a battery or weld or use magnesium sparklers etc) what you actually smell when you smell tarnished metal is you are smelling your skin oils being oxidized with the metal acting as a catalyst. There is a really good Nile Red video where he synthesizes the chemical that gives iron it’s smell!

I like the smells of conifers, wet hay/oats, rain, lightning and horse manure. The first 14 years of my life, I live in front of a Belgian horse breeder farm. I sometimes helped my neighbors load bails of hay into the loft of their horse barn, and sacks of oats. The smell was so sweet, that I would refuse to shower after finishing because I thought I smelled like an oatmeal cookie. The manure smell is similar to compost for me, and is weirdly nostalgic. While the horses had a strong musky scent. The mix makes me think of gardens and large, wild game animals. Rain and lightning are also nostalgic scents. We used to sit outside or open all our windows to let the electric dankness permeate the house. Along with that, we would get the smells of rehydrating manure, wet horses (similar to wet dog), decomposing leaves, conifer trees and wet horse feed. We often had power outages, so we also had the rare family game night by candlelight. So of course, there's something absolutely magical about a rainstorm and lightning in rural farmlands. It reminds me of the few times where the family was huddled together around the table, instead of divided up around the house. Though my favourite memory was the historic ice storm of January 1998. We lived in our basement, huddled around our tiny Franklin stove, cooking on the fire and interacting. I never felt so close to my family as I did during those 2 weeks

My sense of smell goes WILD during "the month", and it is AWFUL, because I CAN smell my own oil of the skin, and I can smell ANY chemical from WAY farther away than usual (think, like a new pack of stickers sitting across the room) and even good smells make me SUPER sick because... they're SO strong. I have a really tuned sense of smell in general and I don't go nose-blind to the smell of the house or myself, but I can at least... tolerate a little dusty-old-antique smell and the smell of me... just again, NOT on the month. I swear I could be a bloodhound and become a search-and-rescue dog replacement 😭👍

I have very strong senses in everywhere but my eyes… which are super blurry. I can locate sources very easily based on sound and or smell and identify specifically where they come from. I can also specifically identify a lot of different smells! While I have specifically good senses, I feel like everyone can do this to an extent they just don’t practice and so their brain doesn’t waisted space for something it deems unimportant. I find sick people tend to have a certain smell, like people with the cold, similar to the smell left behind when someone sneezes. The smells I like are pretty random, but I tend to really like the smell of freshly washed bedsheets :).

Normally it smells like clean air and pine to me and I notice the air is much thinner due to elevation. It's problem more a blood oxygenation thing, but I perceive it as a smell. Could be people smell different when they are cold or the some environmental thing you associate with the ski resorts, maybe all the ski-wear off gassing, or ski wax.

On odor fatigue, you recognize after some time spent outdoors that you can again smell people. Its odd how things you usually forget become important again in a forest. In the city on a regular work week i cant tell but after some time outdoors i pick up if people are nearby me long before they actually get nearby me. Its very faint scents but very obvious scents. Detergents, cigarettes, chewing gum or tobacco, etc. it's really important for anyone who wants to hide their scent from people to consider not smoking. Thats always the easiest giveaway outdoors.

4:45 I remember hearing about a test on this. They had women smell the clothing of men. They then ranked the men based on how offensive the smell was from "awful" to "negligable". Turns out, the more someone's immune system covers the same stuff as yours, the worse the smell to you. The more it covers different stuff, the better. Thus, increasing the odds of the offspring having a stronger immune system.

I remember they also did an experiment, but that one was mixed. Somewhat the same, people ranking how bad or good was the smell of strangers used clothes. They found the shirts they ranked better would usually belong to people with more similar interests and opinions to their own, so I guess person smell can also show a level of lifestyle compatibility.

It's also a great way to naturally incentivise avoiding sleeping with family members.

As someone who uses terms like "Mr. Stink", "Stinky", and "Viktor von Steinkenstein" as terms of endearment for his dog, I very much appreciated the use of "stink" throughout this 😅

i like the unique slightly metally smell of lametta, it smells like christmas and new years, and reminds me of those little glittery pompom sticks youd put in your drink
