I have 410 in my 06 2500 with 35 inch tires I want to go to a 373 or so mainly so I could use low gear to take off but also get better fuel mileage on the highway
@kodeman3515 Жыл бұрын
You will lose a lot of acceleration to get then tires moving. I have 3.73 now and going with a 4.56. I've been doing a lot of research. If you go to small, you will lose power and fuel economy. The engine will be having to work harder to get you moving and keep you moving. I'd stick with you 4.10s

Why a 4.10 and not 3.73 from the stock 3.42? Any pros/cons between the two?

If u do the back do u have to do the rear as well 4wd silverado
@JacobWinkle10 ай бұрын
YES! If you have lets say 3.42 in the front and only regear the rear to something like 3.73-4.10 basically a different gear ratio. It will cause binding in the drive shafts and you'll start breaking parts like differentials, yokes, and can possibly even start twisting the driveshaft. Can also obliterate your transfer case on a 4WD. That's why most people I see are 2WD guys like myself who re-gear because it's pretty expensive. For example if I want to regear my 2000 S-10 from 3.42-4-10 or even 3.73 gear. I got a couple quotes already and I mean the quotes are basically $1,600 to regear just one differential and that the rear diff. The easy one. Some diffs for the front aren't easy to get to and take more labor to get to the diff and pull it out for the front before they can even get in there and regear it. So the Front usually costs more than the rear because of the extra labor of taking things apart.

Pretty sure the torque converter is related to the cam, not the rear gears

Ok, so 1 question. I am just trying to figure out why my math is not working. You said you didn't change the gearing, but just increased the size of the tires, and the gas Mileage went down.......? That would be a mathematical anomaly, please explain
@bobbyfreeman88894 жыл бұрын
I think it throws off the dash speedometer and miles and mpg appears to be less but not really. I'm not sure how you resync it. I use my phone with apps to see what my actual speed limit is.
@mikechesmer56822 жыл бұрын
Taller tires are heavier, adding unsprung weight for the engine to move the truck. Heavier tires cause the engine to work harder to spin the tires, and use up more gas to do so. So you lose on gas milage. Regearing gets some of the torgue back, but you'll always lose gas milage.
@kodeman3515 Жыл бұрын
@Bobby Freeman get a programmer. I use the superchips flashpaq 5. You can change your shift points, turn off afm adjust throttle response, change the tire size in the ecm for the speedometer to be recalibrate, plus a ton more options.

How is it possible that you didn't change anything but added what I assume must be a numerically higher gear with an oversized tire, and your RPM went DOWN on the highway?? thats not how that works. Did I miss something? perceived performance and acceleration, yes, but lower RPM os the opposite of what you should see on the highway.
@mikechesmer56822 жыл бұрын
The rpms increased when he added the heavier tires. He regeared and that brought the rpms back down again, but only for the heavier tires. If he regeared with the original tires, the rpms would still go up also.
@TwinTurboLsx2 жыл бұрын
@@mikechesmer5682 A larger diameter tire would drop the rpms down. A gear change would bring them back up and bring you back into the powerband. So this doesn’t add up.
@Neil555-11 Жыл бұрын
The engine has to work harder with the bigger tires. Without changing the gears it's like it is lugging whole time. Acceleration is slower.
@TwinTurboLsx Жыл бұрын
@@Neil555-11 yes, I understand. But the reason why it doesn’t have to work as hard is because it brings the rpm up to keep it in the power. But lower my the rpm as they claim doesn’t make sense. No matter how you shake it, numerically higher gear will raise the rpm. That’s the entire point. The opposite of lugging it around.
