I use a 28 gauge with #7 shot as well on upland birds and it works well for me too. According to Hodgdon's website data, the max charge with your components is 23 grains of Lil Gun @ 11,700 psi. Your tested load is quite a bit higher; something to consider. BTW, my brother recently got one of your vests and has been using it and likes it a lot. I tried it on and got to say the lumbar pad in the back feels really nice. I may have to swap with him and give it a try.

@@DougSchoenung appreciate the comment! The test report shared with me, was right at 12200 if I recall exactly. I haven’t had any pressure signs of any sort yet but always thankful for folks ensuring safety! Definitely goes bang with a lighter powder load for sure! Thankful for the kind words on the vest as well! Hope he’s a good brother and lets ya try it out! 🇺🇸

I noticed the same thing. Also true when looking at the BPI manuals…29 gr is well above the published data.
@finalrise27 күн бұрын
@ - thanks for the comment! You’re absolutely correct that this load is not found in any of BPIs printed literature. Some 2-3 years ago, BPI listed “multi-hull” load data, from which this information is derived. Kind of like their “loads of the week”. A lot of the information that could be found on their site is no more. Not sure for the reasons of that but having shot the load for a few years, from multiple guns and no pressure signs, I’ve trusted the results. That said, I fully understand anyone not wanting to reload anything not found in a manual. For that reason, I always encourage folks to do their own research. I’d also never share information that hasn’t been tested and could negatively impact someone. The load from the mentioned “multi-hull” sheet was load 21125-16: “21125-16 28ga 2-3/4" Multi-Hull 28/2 MH209 LILGUN 28.0 HV28 OS28 1oz Lead None 12,200psi 1,200fps” The additional grain beyond the data above, was tested and proved safe. It’s not my load but was shared with me, much like the custom TSS turkey and/or upland loads and other custom load info that folks develop and share. But, I get it, If it’s not in a manual, lots of folks steer clear and that’s okay. There’s a few great reloading groups on FB where folks have their loads tested by BPI and other professional sources and share the results directly. Some guys sell that information since they’ve paid to have the loads tested. If you’re into reloading 28 and .410 data, there’s some great information out there beyond reloading manuals that haven’t changed much over the years. Grateful again for the comment and hope the seasons treating you great!

Another great video Matt! I was curious if you are shooting nickel plate lead or just traditional lead? Thank you!

Are you saving money buy making your own ammo? or is it just the fun of making the ammo itself? What is the cost per round if you can share?
@finalrise2 ай бұрын
@@ItsChoeTime a few years ago, 28 gauge shells were super readily available and only $14 or so a box. Now, companies are charging 24-30 for the same loads. I can easily load a box for less than $14, depending on the type of powder, shot quality, etc. The up front cost is acquiring the equipment but if you shoot and hunt enough, and just enjoy the hobby of reloading in general, it’s worth it.. cheaper than drugs I suppose? 🤣

What change do you make for later in the season? 6’s?

@@borderland_upland yes sirrr! There is some wiggle room in the powder charge as well if you want to speed it up for later season, longer shots.

What kind of pressure are you getting with this load? I shoot your 7/8oz load and it is a Pheasant knocker. Keep them coming. Thanks

@@larrygriffen2887 this load is right at 12000 psi vs that 7/8oz load which is around 11000, so fairly comparable 👊🏼

@finalrise2 ай бұрын
@@christopherhevener3661 this particular load didn’t come from a manual and was tested by a good friend and given to me. Certain places will test loads and get you load pressure, speed, etc. kinda cool! A really good reloading manual for the 28 and .410 is the “small bore” manual from ballistic products. There’s some great reloading Facebook groups as well 👍🏼

What chokes do you like to use across your guns?
@finalrise2 ай бұрын
@@dustinhopkins6470 I shoot skeet / IC on almost all my guns. As season progress I may bump up to skeet / mod, but I shoot a lot of double trigger guns so it’s easy to start at the back trigger and hit a longer shot. Always seems there’s one lingering close that having that wide open barrel for makes it worth it.
