Head says buy almost any other EV in this segment..... Heart says buy this immediately cause it’s just so delightfully lovely and interesting 😍 Imagine how happy you would feel driving that around day to day. Also the range is most likely perfectly fine for 90% of the population. Everyone seems to think they need mega range with EVs but in actuality most will only need 60 miles max per day if that
@nickporter42794 жыл бұрын
For me it's not about typical miles per day, it's about how long you'd reasonably want to drive without needing to stop. I'm currently in an EV that does 190 miles in good conditions (ie. now), 125 miles in the worst (winter motorways), 168 miles WLTP rating. Right now it's fantastic, surplus to requirements, I can get to the other side of England on a single charge. But in winter it only *just* manages a reasonable amount of driving between stops. It's fine, but it's my minimum: I think anything less would be a compromise.

My son (20) found and rescued a '77 Civic from a local car wrecker a couple of years ago. The body was in good condition which is very surprising for a Canadian example, but it wasn't in running condition. He's since rebuilt the engine and got it road worthy enough to take out occasionally on temporary licenses. I remember seeing these cars all over when I was a child and it really is an experience to get behind the wheel to drive it around. It just puts a big smile on my face whenever I see it. It's just fun & so full of character. It's also a car perfectly designed for an urban environment - its design is purposefully limited and I think that's part of what contributes to it's charm. The Honda e is it's spiritual successor and it's design language speaks volumes to the intent of this car. It really is a modern '70's Civic, right down to its 'limited on paper' specs. That's exactly what the original Civic was all about! I love these cars!

Firstly - you are the single most interesting car journo now. You're not whacky, shouty, trying to be cool or click-baity, nor are you trying to be professorial and yet you are uttering facts after facts from your encyclopedic knowledge and as objective opinions as they can get. It's unheard of and very, very entertaining. Thank you, mate. Do more of what you're doing. Btw I like watching Doug DeMuro, he's providing similar type of information about the cars but he's lacking objective context and doesn't mind to make factual errors. He's clearly not a journo. You are doing what everybody should. But then it would quickly reveal that a lot of car journos are lacking knowledge and/or abilities. About the Honda e - this is as close to as can get for a man like me to be considering an EV. I would be an ideal workhorse for my job apart from the range. It's would serve well in 90 % of situations. But that's not enough. You either need more range or another car along with this. Which is not ideal considering the price.

CarPervert The average working man’s ticket into a new car is normally via PCH. This may sound like a generalisation but I can only speak for myself and my friends in the £20k-£30k per annum income club. For a 36 month personal contract hire on this car, 6 months down, 8000 miles per annum it’s coming out at nearly £450 per month inc vat (Porsche money). Sadly due to the uncertainty over residual values, EV’s tend to be out of reach for most. I really hope this changes as time goes on. The only reasonably priced EV via PCH is the Hyundai IONIQ and despite being a perfectly respectable car, that just doesn’t float my boat. I’m really motivated to switch to an EV but for my £300 per month budget I want to feel the bang for my buck so right now I’m afraid I’ll be going for the Golf GTI performance pack and will have to review the EV option in another 3 years. For info, I’m about to hand in my Volvo S90 T5 inscription plus so I’m very diverse when it comes to car choice for my £300 budget! Really love your Channel by the way! Keep up the great work.

Matt P I actually did the sums on these and came out at a TCO of £450/mo inc insurance and servicing with no deposit for the base model. I think the E Advance was ~£500pm TCO. I agree, that’s far too high for a small hatchback - you can get some serious ICE cars for that. When these are £300-350/month TCO, people will start paying attention.

I kind of remember Wilt Chamberlin doing a commercial for Honda. He gets in and has enough headroom in the commercial. I was impressed. My family knew someone that owned a red one and I remember it well for some reason.

That sounds like a pretty cool double garage Jonny 👍 I remember learning to drive in my mum’s 1976 Civic - great nostalgic memories flooding back 😀

Just brilliant Johnny you're definitely my number one go to in the UK tubing.I was a bit down this morning looking for work and then I saw your video and it puts a big yellow Honda pacman smile on my face😍 the thing is about the old Civic it was such an advancement on engine design and that engine will probably go on for longer than we are around, the fact that it conquered America was amazing I actually saw an 80s civic I swear on an episode of Cheers at the Beginning Norman pulls up in one, he then swaps parking tickets with Cliffs postal van 😂😂 the new Honda e is not only probably the most characterful electric vehicle Honda probably developed this a little bit too early and probably had a little bit of a delay putting it to Market similar to the NSX which is probably why the battery range is also not as good as it could be. But with every Honda they listen to their customers they listen to the engineers and they're extremely good at Development so as you said I reckon there be a some sort of Sport version or longer range version developed in the next few years. You mentioned there be any type R version as a type of and I'm not sure about this Johnny I own a Type-R and if someone can go out and buy an electric one it's going to sort of put us iVTec owners to shame especially when they beat us off the lights, it won't sound as good but they will have the bragging rights especially when they will Spinning Around the lamp post 😂😂😂 the funny thing is even with bad snopes they'll have to admit that the Honda having heritage with this car looking like the original car and still being Japanese makes it a prestige electric vehicle as far as I'm concerned. Does anyone else know that the original golf probably copied the shape of the Civic as well as it came out before it. I don't think the golf or the Mini have the same retro rare impact, has there so many of them on the road and their does big fat copies of The Originals really. I think you need to get the Honda e on a B road next, and can we please have the next episode of your Honda S600 please👍👍👍

Thank you, I enjoyed being taken back to my Civic bought new in 1974. And before that I had bought new a Honda N600, a direct competitor for and far better designed and manufactured than the Mini. Looking back across the decades now those are my two all time favourites. To my eye, design cues from the N600 show most clearly in the Honda e.

Great video...Mum's first car in the early 80's was a little white Hondamatic Civic, this video brought back memories of me and my 2 siblings riding around in the back. I love the new E too, its an interesting and stylish car where most cars pretty much look the same these days. But I'd have to Civic given the choice!

At 17 in Australia I bought a 75 Civic Hondamatic 2 speed $3,200 AUD brand new. It handled corners very well and I used to drive long distances at 60 to 70 mph. And I could keep up and pass many of the muscle Cars of the day whenever the road was winding even up and down hill. I can tell you the Roof is strong enough as I rolled it 3 times at around 50 mph down an embankment after being startled by hundreds of Cockatoos flying right in front of me where I lost it in the side gravel and didn't notice the 2m drop at the side. Got out unscathed and car was repaired.

Gosh, I'd forgotten just how fabulous the original Civic looks, especially in good old 1970s yellow. The new Honda E looks great too, I just wish they'd put a proper petrol engine in it for those of us who often need to do long distance at short notice. Even so, I think the E will do what the Fiat 500 did in 2008 and pull at everyone's heart strings. I wish it all the best.

I really can't afford it but I look at the Honda E as a dream car. It's just so good (apart from range and price). I simply cannot get over how good the design is inside and out, I want one now!

Honda's have always been understated with their specifications, they don't even quote power figures for their motorcycles but they have won my heart with their characterful futuristic stylish design and innovation as well as their great smooth quick feeling engines. I'm sure the Honda E will be all of that and if I have the chance I'd love to own one.

My Mum had a white Honda Civic just like that one. I passed my test and was allowed to drive it sometimes. What a super little car it was! However it had terrible rust issues on the bodywork and eventually it had to go!
