When a company who makes its money selling ammo publishes their tests suggesting you're better off carrying the less expensive ammo that says a LOT about what great integrity Lucky Gunner Ammo has! It would be very easy for them to show results suggesting you needed the higher priced super-duper rounds, but nope, they stuck to the real results and Fiocchi FMJ (i.e. the cheap-but-very-good stuff) is what does best overall. This is one reason why they are my favorite place to order ammo! I like the .32 acp and have for some time. It has less recoil than .380s of similar size (which in the tiny guns can mean a world of difference in shot-to-shot times as well as affect joy of practice and ability to shoot for those with arthritic hands). Plus, most .32s give you a round or so extra capacity over their .380 counterparts. Don't get me wrong, I love a good .380 but .32s honestly do about the same thing for less noise, less kick, and less recoil. Plus, the best ammo is the cheaper stuff. What's not to love?

I think in order to understand some of the results you have to go back in time and understand the history of .32 ACP guns. When introduced they ranged from pocket guns and full size guns. They were in essence the same as we see 9mm guns today. Well after WW1, they more or less ceased use in military roles but continued to play a role in police forces, particularly European police. By the 80's .32 ACP guns and ammo were still common but they had more or less been regulated to pocket guns and the full size guns being surplus from prior years. So as time went on, people only ever seemed to see them in the pocket gun capacity making such claims that there's no point to them being "X" size and the likes. Ammo makers continued to produce ammo at original specs for the caliber which many were never intended for use with hollow points and nobody ever really bothered to develop a JHP that was designed to work well with .32 ACP. Silver Tips were some of the best early ones for the caliber and still do well in a full size gun but even in my informal testing I can tell you they would fall just short of FBI minimum specs. Essentially, nobody cares enough to make this work as things like .380 and 9x19 are far more common. CorBon went out of business but they were one of those companies that knew how to load their designs for maximum effect. Like many people I feel you missed on not testing the Lehigh Cavitator loads for .32 ACP however I do understand they are not as common on the market as these other loads. The best results I've found for .32 ACP performance in 3.5 to 3.75 inch barrel semi autos has been Fiocchi Exterma .32 ACP loaded with XTP's, followed by Winchester Silvertips, CorBon JHP, and Hornady loaded XTP's. I didnt count the Lehigh as it's not an expanding bullet but when comparing it to the best JHP performance it's results are very similar but almost 99% of the time meeting FBI minimums on penetration. While I think gel is good for establishing a base line for what to expect, having done a lot of research and testing both formal and informal on the matter I've come to the opinion that even those rounds that fail to meet FBI minimums will still be plenty adequate to save one's life. Also, the Kel-Tec has a 2.63 inch barrel which puts it closer to a 2 1/2 than a 3 inch. .32's sweet spot seems to come from 3.2 to 3.5 inch barrel. Where maximum performance comes in a 3.75 to 4 inch barrel. Again though, this is based on a lot of time, research and testing of all types. In general though, the results showing that with the longer barrel you get more expansion but less penetration is quite true for a vast majority of what you tested even in my experience.

In the first half of the 20th Century .32ACP handguns outsold .380s by a considerable margin. Colt for example sold three .32 Pocket Hammerless pistols for every one of the .380 versions they sold. Consumers noted the fact that the .32s had less recoil and usually held at least one extra round. It was also felt that the difference in stopping power between a .32 FMJ and a .380 FMJ was negligible. Given the fact that you're probably better off with FMJ in either of these calibers perhaps more gun manufacturers should start offering .32ACP versions of their pocket .380s again.

Paul Harrell only tests what exists. If he tested the 32 Xtreme Cavitator, I'd love to have a link to that because I haven't seen it. The 32 Xtreme Defender is very new, didn't exist a month or so ago. He tested the lightweight 9mm, not the heavier 9mm Defender and found that it was OK. He tested the .380 Xtreme Penetrator and if you watch until the end and listen to what he said, he did say that it was very effective on the meat target (and you could see that for yourself) for a .380 provided that you don't expect wild claims about penetration from a 380. The worst thing that the ammo has going for it is its name. The 32 Xtreme Cavitator is yet another terrible name. If you are familiar with the 32 THV then you'll recognize that there's nothing new about the Cavitator. Paul comes down hard against hype ammo and I'm right there with him. But when you're ready to decide whether the Lehigh is hype or merely something new, I would urge you to look at his meat test results for yourself. If you're into 32 ACP and can't find anything realistic on the Cavitator, learn about the old THV and you be the judge if you think it's worth pursuing.

The Walther PP and PPK are making a comeback in .32 ACP. If you live in a capacity restricted state they may be good options that wont intimidate a jury. I plan to pick one up as a Bond fan.

I have both of these pistols! I'm fanboying myself to death right now. I don't carry the 81 but I want to. Ideally, my P32 is a backup gun. I can't thank you guys enough for these videos. Well, I can. I'll buy ammo.

I shot a caged boar behind the ear seven times with 32 ACP hollow points it was very alive and very pissed off. FMJ is the only way to go with this caliber imo

I really love my beretta 70 puma. It’s a perfect little size to hide. The only thing I don’t like about it is it’s the older style with the button safety. Sometimes my palm near my trigger finger can push the button and put the safety on. If it had the newer slide safety I’d carry it everyday.

When wearing lightweight shorts.. during the summer I carry my Kel-Tec p32 generation 1.. drop dead reliable and accurate out to 40 45 ft.. I installed Kel-Tec anti-rimlock kits in the magazine so I could carry hollow points without any rim lock issue.. but what I settled on was not a hollow point it is the Underwood extreme cavitator! . Cuts a nice wound channel yet doesn't need to expand and plenty of penetration like a hardball.. they do have a shorter profile so the anti-rimlock kits are definitely necessary when carrying this round

I EDC'd a SeeCamp LWS .32 Semi-Auto as my SD pistol for quite awhile. I purchased it in 1986, I think? Came with one magazine. I'm ordered another and it took 3 years to get it. It was a deep cover rig and I knew I'd have to go Central Nervous System to be effective. Would I have preferred a 9mm or .45 ACP? Yes. But, it wasn't practical at the time. Interestingly, the SeeCamp LWS .32 was only guaranteed when using SilverTip ammo. I did try other brands of ammo which functioned fine. But, I always carried SilverTips for SD purposes. So, I believe 32ACP is a viable SD round, but as with any handgun, shot placement is key. JMHO, YMMV.

My EDC is looking pretty good right now. Kel Tec P32 that I got on Gun Broker for $130, Fiocchi FMJ round nose for $15/box (most common ammo I can find) and that same little grip you have on yours. Consistently penetrating to the ideal level, 8 rounds in the gun. It's been in my back jeans pocket in a little nylon holster for half a year now and no one has noticed at work. It shoots almost as well as my Sig P238 and is twice as carryable.
@AlexHand4 жыл бұрын
Btw, with that Fiocchi ammo I've had 0 malfunctions after hundreds of rounds. Only jams were with Winchester white box flat nose and hollow points.

Rim lock is much less of an issue with a Seecamp which is designed for the shorter hollow point and you are supposed to use ammo .91 or less.

I never considered pocket pistols because of the weak smmo and tiny hard to hold size until today i held a Beretta tomcat 32 and i couldn't believe how good it felt for the size, it doesn't feel like your holding such a tiny gun. Then i held the Ruger lcp 380 and it was so bad compared to the bobcat and I was disgusted with myself for thinking it would be a good idea 😂😂. I need to see what the kel tec and lcp max feel like but i think I like the 32 tomcat best of all

A buddy bought a Barretta in 32 acp. He loves it and he shoots it very well. His only complaint is the price of 32 acp, because he needed to practice to get used to it. He uses a 45acp at home and turn bricks into powder day.

This is from 4 years ago. Not sure you had the Lehigh defender bullets available yet - they are now and Underwood uses them - 55 grain and they give disruption and good penetration - like around 15" - esp the +P loading. I like them - they are the best choice for CCW IMHO.

@Lucky Gunner about your .357sig vid- there is one distinct advantage of the round when it comes to barrier penetration such as car doors. 9mm stops at 2nd sheet of .125" aluminum where .357 continues through 2 & nearly through the 3rd (.40 &45 stopped on 2nd). Aside from that, top notch work. I'd like to see how the polycase stuff stacks up against FMJ & JHP across your test platforms

These are always great videos and analyses... I highly recommend exploring (and carrying on your site) Underwood Ammo with Lehigh Defense projectiles. For these small calibers (or any) they create a significant wound channel WITHOUT relying on expansion. So, you don’t have to make a trade off between wound channel OR penetration - you can have your cake and eat it to! Keep up the great work and thanks for what you do.

for good over penetration simulation, there should be fabric on the backside of the gel block, unless your target doesnt wear clothes on their back. many times the bullet will get stopped by the 2nd layer of clothing.

The Keltec P-32 is a VERY ACCURATE shooting little gun. It gives us all rounds into the 6” bull at 10 yards, and that was before installing Armalaser sight, which makes it easy to hit golf balls at 15 yards. It’s basically same size as Ruger LCP but is MUCH MORE PLEASANT TO SHOOT. The Ruger LCP is not pleasant to shoot and doesn’t stay open on last round. P-32 DOES stay open on last round!!! And another plus to know is that 32 S&W Auto is close to 380 ACP in performance, which means quicker recoil recovery back on target. The Keltec P-32 is worth its weight in gold and can be carried outside the waistband in a good well made leather or Kydex smartphone holster for quicker access. Buffalo says to use quality full metal jacket ammo which is made full-length so to completely fill the space in the magazine. Then it’s impossible for a rimlock to occur which can happen with the slightly shorter hollowpoints bullets. Make sure to always go with quality full length FMJ bullets and the gun is utterly reliable. We haven’t had a single malfunction since we bought this awesome little backup gun. It’s easy to see why it is so popular among LEO and undercover police.

A modern light 3.5 to 4.0 inch barrel, a slim grip, no bigger than a Walter PP, and holding 10 rounds. 4lb trigger, good sights, 3 magazines, with fingeR extension as an option, as the Walter PP/PPK. Fixed barrel, sights on barrel/barrel extension, with very good accuracy, threaded for suppressor. Just a wishlist.
@qqkk55814 жыл бұрын
There is a subject that I’ve yet to hear anyone ever discuss - effective barrel length. The effective barrel length is the actual distance a bullet travels down the barrel before exiting the muzzle. For example; a 1911 with a 5” barrel has approximately 3.9” effective barrel length after subtracting the length of the cartridge and headspace. Subsequently, the 4” barrel on a revolver has an actual 4” effective travel range because the cartridge resides in the cylinder, not the barrel. And of course a 2” snubnose revolver has a slightly longer usable barrel length then an automatic with a 2.5” barrel.

My Kel-Tec P32 is my "lightest weight" carry pistol that I can throw in the pocket of running shorts or the back pocket of dress slacks and it will not stick out or cause my pants to sag. When I'm wearing jeans or work pants then I move up to my S&W .380 or 642 Airweight. And finally if I'm going out at night or someplace I consider risky, then I pack a Sig P226 and damn the weight.

Why does the value of your life change, based on when and where you go?
@rickieodem4883 жыл бұрын
@@jh8338 The value of life doesn't change, but the risk factors do. In daylight in my own neighborhood, chances of getting accosted by a gang who would not be stopped by taking some rounds of .32ACP are pretty slim. At night in the city that risk goes up, and so does the countermeasure.
@jh83383 жыл бұрын
@@rickieodem488 I understand that, you're referring to the chances of having a self-defense encounter. I'm talking about the thinking of 'Well, my life is only worth saving with a .32acp round at 7-11, but worth a 9mm round when I'm elsewhere...' Why lower the chances of saving your life with a lesser caliber? If you have to pull the trigger, you want the most bang for the buck. A 9mm is 3x the ft-lb energy of a .32acp.
