Counsel Culture Show

3 ай бұрын

In this session of Counsel Culture, Nick Cannon and Dr. Umar Johnson sit down for their second session, to discuss the responsibility of the Black voice in the media. The two dissect the Hollywood troupe of Black men in dresses and even question if jokes have become too common of a coping mechanism in the community, and much more.

This felt like watching Nick in a counseling session trying to make his therapist agree with him. Bunch of rambling and splaining that makes him look illogical. Dr Umar has a ton of patience.

Thank you @morningcoffee1266. I was saying the exact same thing. I'm sure Dr. Umar had definite feelings about Nick and his many children not have the benefit of having their father in the house with them everyday, etc. Seems like Nick was making sure the Dr. didn't go there with him!

Selective Outrage and Knowledge, The Sebi Documentary was done according to most sources. I don’t know if he ever started the Nipsey Documentary. Nip’s family was discussing a project based on his life as well. He may have deferred to them or another director/company. Look at what happened around the time the Trailer for the Sebi doc was released.

IDK who's attention span this catering to but I want the full 3hr version lol. good conversation both raised great points. These are definitely the kinds of conversations that need to be had and in terms of media representation, I think podcast are the lane that helps push these higher level conversations to the same audience that is most malleable. we just have to continue to be intentional and associate the correct behaviors with images and information we put out

Right! They're catering to the generation of folks who only have the attention span of a KZbin short. I would LOVE to listen to a full 3 hour episode. I don't like these type of things in parts. It's frustrating waiting 10 days for a part 2 🤦🏾‍♀️

Oh Brother Nick where to start? Firstly the fit is FLY!!! secondly we love to see Dr. Umar! Now all the rest of these comments, all go together. First of all, I love the graphics, and the name and the purpose of this. I am most astounded and amazed at your humility to put yourself on the couch instead of the “doctor seat” this is so countercultural right now, but so necessary! I know a lot of the comments can be negative and harsh and hard to hear but I hope the ones that are encouraging are held closer to your heart! Thank you for being brave and sharing these videos I’m very grateful

ThankU son Nick for your video and i was called the N word by a non black in Philadelphia PA several times, minding my own business once while driving & while walking, i don't want to hear that word in NO form ever again. Recent comedians still don't care about the pain it brings, incl. David. C., really just about all black so-call comedians use that term & i turn the channel they aren't even funny using the N word at all, no comedy skills. It seems like they are trying to impress their audience even though they r veteran comics!ThankU Dr Umar! One LOVE to both of U

I see a lot of people attacking Nick Cannon for speaking for long periods, but tbh I’ve never seen anyone challenge Dr. Umar’s logic the way Nick did here. He provided extremely good arguments and made some really good points, and Dr. Umar had to find new ways to get his point across than he typically does. That’s makes this a very productive conversation in my opinion.
